  1. 0:00

Good morning Britain and sisters this morning so to have a look at the Lord’s Prayer in the context of our Psalm study. The Lord’s Prayer, which we all know by heart, is a beautiful and a powerful prayer and was given by the Lord Jesus to his disciples to pray when they asked him teach us how to pray.

  2. 0:27

Many people know this prayer by heart. Not only Christadelphians but most church attending Christians know this prayer by heart. I learnt in the Dutch Reformed Church and still know it by heart in in Dutch.

  3. 0:42

But because we know this prayer so well, there’s a danger that we don’t always think about what we are saying to our Heavenly Father and breaking off to start their prayer. We come before thy throne of grace, but you’ll be able to come before the throne of Queen Elizabeth. You can’t say hi, old girl. How are you going today?

  4. 1:06

Because you talk in a different way, don’t you? I’ve learned something from the Jewish people who in the synagogues have got a saying. Every synagogue has that a saying in Hebrew which says DA livne MI Atta omed no before whom thou standest. And that is very good advice because if you realise when we pray, we actually present ourselves before the Almighty, before whom nations are counted as a drop in the bucket, that you will be more careful thinking how to address the Almighty.

  5. 1:49

Because actually I’m, I’m not here to criticise anybody’s prayer. I’m struggling myself still with it. But we often suit our prayers to the situation which we find ourselves. We have this meeting in mind or at home we pray differently. We for our children, we pray differently. We seem to pray more towards the orders than sometimes to God.

  6. 2:13

It’s just something to to think about. It says in Ecclesiastes chapter 5, Keep thy food when thou goest to the House of God, and be more ready to hear than to give the sacrifice of of fools, for they consider not that they do evil. We need to consider when we come to the House of God and how we address the Almighty. The Lord’s Prayer is a beautiful prayer, and if we meditate on its words and mean it with all our hearts still. When I was preparing for this study on the Psalms and thought again of the Lord’s Prayer, when they asked Jesus teach us how to pray, why did Jesus not turn their attention to the book of Psalms?

  7. 3:00

You’ve got a whole prayer book in the middle of our Bible. It has been said that the prayer is a kind of template on which we can form our own prayers. And as perhaps indicated by the word of Jesus when He introduced this praise, that after this manner, therefore praying, It’s a manner He didn’t say say only this prayer, but He sets out a manner in which we ought to pray. If you go to Matthew chapter 6, I’m sure you know this all by heart, but still good to look at it. We have to prayer there in verse 9 of Matthew 6 and verse 9 after this manner.

  8. 3:54

Follow this pattern. It seems to indicate to me, praying aside, this our Father, which art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day Our Daily Bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

  9. 4:18

For then is the Kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. Should the prayer start, just like the prayer of David, which we just read in One Chronicles chapter 29, with giving God the honour He deserves, It’s followed by three petitions which put God at the centre as a father and not ourselves. It says hallowed be thy name, it’s thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. So the prayer begins with the emphasis on thy God’s name, God’s Kingdom, God’s will.

  10. 5:02

That needs to be done, and only then do we turn to our present, our past, and our future needs. Give us this day, Our Daily Bread. We’d need that today, don’t we? And God provides it every day for us. Then forgive us our debts. As we forgive our debtors the things we’ve done in the past, we ask God to forgive, and then we look to the future, lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. So the empty is now on us, our bread, our debts, and lead us not into temptation to ask them for food. We need it at the present.

  11. 5:47

We pray for forgiveness of our sins which we have committed, and we ask for help in the future. We lay As for all our life before God. And finally, we pray for the Kingdom to come, and a prayer set us then before us the glorious future of the Saints and indeed of the whole world. So that is a pattern which Jesus undoubtedly learned from the Psalms and from the prayer of David in Chronicles 29. And it’s perhaps a pattern on which we should form or compose our own prayers.

  12. 6:25

So let’s have a look then at all the different sayings in this prayer. It starts with our father. Now, the phrase our father is rarely used for God in the Old Testament, although God, of course, was a father to Israel, and he often refers to Israel as his sons. Moses said in Deuteronomy chapter 14, Ye are the children of Yahweh U Alabin. So it implies that God was a father to Israel. Jeremiah plainly says that God was Israel’s father said I am a father to Israel and Ephraim is my first born. Remember.

  13. 7:11

Well, let’s turn that to Hosea Chapter 11. They looked at our first evening study when it was said in Matthew that’s I have called my son out of Egypt and I asked him the question why did the crowd not come from Exodus but from Hosea, But in in Hosea, God reveals himself as a father when Israel was a child says Yahweh. I loved him and I called my son out of Egypt. Verse three.

  14. 7:47

I thought if I’m also to walk to go talking them by their arms, but they knew not that I healed him. I drew them with chords of a man with bends of love, but I asked to them to take off the yoke of their jaws, and I laid meat unto them. So this despite their rebellion, God has revealed himself as a father to Israel, like you to go to Isaiah chapter 63. In Isaiah chapter 63

  15. 8:34

here Isaiah is crying out to God. He says look down from heaven and behold sorry 1st 10 first, first ten. He said surely they are my people. That is God himself speaking. Surely they are my people, children that cannot lie. So He became their Saviour. In all their affliction He was afflicted, and the age of His presence saved them.

  16. 9:01

In His love and in His pity He redeemed them, and He bared them. He carried them all the days of old. And that is what’s at first aid. Sorry, it was starting at first aid. And so God looked after Israel as a father does. In their affliction He was afflicted. When our children suffer, we suffer with them.

  17. 9:25

And he, he, he bared them, and he and he carried them. When the children are small, they get tight, and you put them on your shoulders. That’s what the Father does. And and that is how God dealt with his people. But they rebelled and vexed His Holy Spirit that he was turned to be their enemy, and he fought against them.

  18. 9:44

And perhaps we have here an indication that in the following verses the Gentiles will call God their Father. It says in verse 15, Look down from heaven, and behold from the habitation of thy holiness and of thy glory, where is thy zeal and thy strength, The sounding of thy bells, and of thy mercies toward me? Are they restrained?

  19. 10:10

Doubtless thou art our Father. Who’s saying it? Though Abraham be ignorant of us, and Israel acknowledge us not, the Jews don’t acknowledge us as having a right to the hope of Israel. With thou Yahweh art our Father, our Redeemer. Thy name is from everlasting. And it used to have to be brought back to God in such a dramatic way that they all cry out to Him as a father in the next chapter 64 and verse 8 says, But now Yahweh says, Israel, thou art our father, we are the clay, and thou our potty, We all the work of thy hand.

  20. 10:59

Be not wroth very sore Yahweh not to remember iniquity forever. Behold, see, we beseech thee, we are all thy people. And Israel have to be brought back to that frame of mind as the prodigal son, which returns to his father. But it was David who for the first time addressed Goddess our father.

  21. 11:23

We just read it in One Chronicles 29 and verse 10. And that’s how David started his prayer. Let’s go back to One Chronicles just to have it fresh in our mind again, because there we have David’s prayer in verse 10. After all the people offered willingly and here is his prayer and it starts like the Lord’s Prayer first.

  22. 11:49

Then therefore David blessed Yahweh before all the congregation. And David said, how did he start his prayer? Blessed thou Yahweh, elim of Israel, our Father forever and ever.

  23. 12:08

But it was really Jesus who called his Father ABBA for the first time. He said in the Garden of Gethsemane, ABBA, Father, all things are possible unto thee. Take away this cup from me. Neveness not what I will, but what thou wilt. Thy will be done. Let me live in Israel. My children called me ABBA, and they called Catherine IMA. That’s how you say mum and dad.

  24. 12:43

ABBA simply means daddy. And I love it when my children call me ABBA or daddy and they want to call me daddy because they know that I love them and they also know that I’ll respond and help them when necessary. And so it is with God. He wants to be our daddy and He wants us to treat him like that.

  25. 13:07

Not in a familiar way. We can just have a Rumbo stumbo issue, kids. But it’s this close relationship of a son with his Father, because when Jesus first says it, he didn’t say the prayer doesn’t start with my Father, it starts with our Father. We are not an only child. We have brethren and sisters and it is good to pray together.

  26. 13:36

So starting our prayer with our Father make us thinks about our relationship not only with God, but also with our brethren and sisters. And only through Jesus, of course, that we can address God as our Father. And that’s the reason why Jesus introduced this prayer. I believe it’s through his death we are reconciled to God.

  27. 14:02

And if we’re only through the sacrifice of Christ, can we approach God in prayer? It doesn’t brush aside the use of the Psalms, but it gives us an opportunity to deepen our understanding of the Spirit of Christ that is in the Psalms, in the hymns and the spiritual songs. The disciples of course didn’t at that time fully understand the Psalms because Jesus hadn’t overcome sin and death yet.

  28. 14:30

Jesus first had to fulfil all what was written in the Psalms and in the prophets and in the law concerning him, as he explained in Luke chapter 24 to the disciples that were on the road to Emmaus. And he opened understanding that they might understand the Scriptures. Does it is written and does it behold Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day?

  29. 14:57

They didn’t know that yet when they asked Him teachers how to pray. The Psalms had not been yet fulfilled. But after Jesus went up to heaven and the Holy Spirit came down on them, you can read in Acts chapter 2. They freely started to use the Psalms when they were preaching the gospel used in Acts 2, Psalm 2, and Psalm 16, read in the letter to the Ephesians in in Hebrews, there’s one string of Psalms.

  30. 15:25

There are 333 quotations of the Psalms in the New Testament. But only if we fully understand how Christ fulfilled what was written in the Psalms can we actually properly use them. And that’s why Jesus gave this, this, this template on how to pray. And it says our Father, which art in heaven, it says in Ecclesiastes, be not rash with thy mouth, with Ecclesiastes five and two.

  31. 16:00

And let not thy heart be haste to utter anything before God, for God is in heaven, and thou upon earth. Therefore let thy words be few. And I apply this to myself in my prayer. I used as much as possible the fruit of lips which God has created. But of course I need to use my own words as well.

  32. 16:27

And it’s a balance in when I started to learn to pray. I use 100% my own words and then I started to put, you know, one or two verses of the Psalms. And then the more you mature in Scripture and the more you and the more you can remember Scripture as we’ve heard in quite a few prayers in in in this hall that the the more you grow in the truth, the more you are able to express yourself in Holy Spirit words.

  33. 16:54

And the balance shifts then so that the more we realise that God is in heaven, our Father, which art in heaven that we are on earth and on balance, our words become fewer and fewer and we learn more to express ourselves in words of the Holy Spirit. The many beautiful expressions about God in heaven in the Psalms, the read out you first Psalm 11 verse four and five. Yahweh is in his holy temple.

  34. 17:24

Yahweh is in his is in the heavens, but from there His eyes behold his eyelids Try the children of men. Yahweh tries the righteous, but the wicked and him that love is violence. His soul haters our Father, which art in heaven. Well, what’s she doing there? He’s looking down on us, He’s searching our hearts, He’s testing our faith. Psalm 14 Yahweh look down from heaven upon the children of men to see if there were any that understands and that seek God. So there’s so much in the very short sentence, the beginning of our prayer, our Father, which art in heaven. And the more we realise that God is in heaven, the less we use our own words in our prayer.

  35. 18:14

And it says, hallowed be thy name. What does that mean? What does it mean to hallow something? It means to make it holy. Does that don’t mean that if we don’t say the Lord’s Prayer that God’s name is not holy? That’s not right either, is it? God’s name is holy, doesn’t matter what we do or say.

  36. 18:39

But yet you need to pray hallowed be thy name. So what does that mean in In Hebrew, all names have a meaning. Melchizedek means king of righteousness, David means beloved, Solomon means peace, and names are often used to express the character of a person, and the same is God. When he proclaimed his name before Moses in Exodus 34, Yah descended in the cloud and stood with him there and proclaimed the name of Yahweh.

  37. 19:18

Yahweh passed by before him and proclaimed Yahweh. Yahweh Eon merciful and gracious, long-suffering, and abundant in goodness and truth. How can we say hallowed be thy name if we don’t reflect God’s character, if we are not merciful, if we are not gracious, if we don’t show any long-suffering and so on? What does name God mean?

  38. 19:42

It comes from good. Oh, God is good, we know that, but that is not his name. We call him Lord now. That’s not his name either. It’s his job. In England, in the government got our house full of Lords. So that doesn’t help us either. See go to Exodus chapter 3. And by the way, you use the names of God, I know you are familiar with this. It says in Exodus 3 and verse 13, Moses said unto Elovim, there is Exodus 3 and verse 13 Bill. When I come into the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The Elohim of your Father has sent me unto you, and they shall say to me, What is his name?

  39. 20:30

What shall I say unto them? And Ellen said to Moses, I will be that I will be. It’s definitely the future tense. It’s not I am that I am. There’s no revelation in that. I am what I am. You are what you are. So what the God says I will be, that I will be. If somebody says that I will be, what do you ask? What are you going to be then?

  40. 20:57

It’s quite a natural question, isn’t it? Thus shall thou say unto the children of Israel, I will be has sent me unto you. There’s a little critical phrase has sent me unto you. So verse 14, he says, I will be has said me unto you. And the next verse explains what God is going to be. And again you got this phrase has sent me unto you. Those two verses are said in parallel. And Ellen said moreover unto Moses, Thus shall thou say to the children of Israel, Yahweh Ellim of your father’s, the Ellim of Abraham, the Ellim of Isaac, and the Ellim of Jacob has sent me unto you.

  41. 21:38

So first it says, I will be has sent me unto you, and now it says, Yahweh Ellim of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob has sent me unto you. So what does God want to be? He wants to be the mighty ones of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. So his, his name is Yahweh Ellim and it means he will be mighty ones. That is God’s name and this is my memorial says God and to all generation this is my name forever. No point saying God or no point saying Lord because that is not his name.

  42. 22:17

God is good, He is a Lord, He’s a master, but that’s not his name. So if you want to hallow his name, make that name holy. We’ve got to take on this character. We’ve got to learn to be mighty once Coseto Elvin actually means remember Bob Lloyd once he’s got those wonderful illustrations about Alexander the Great and he was great king and the big army and they they caught a deserter a little while runaway. He was scared.

  43. 22:51

He was brought before Alexander and Alexander says, what is your name? And the boy said, Alexander said no, no, that’s my name. What is your name? He says Alexander, Sir, No, no, no, that is my name. If you’re Alexander, then either you behave like an Alexander or you change your name. If you call ourselves after the name of God, we got to be like God.

  44. 23:20

We must be merciful and gracious, long-suffering and abundant in mercy and truth. Because then we have taken on the character of God and then he can use that name and then we make that name holy. Then he can say hallow be thy name by the way we live. Change your name or change the way you live, says Alexander. And that is what we need to do if we want to hallow his name. But a beautiful expresses in the Psalms 145 Alex told you my Elvin the king now bless thy name forever and ever. Every day that I bless thee and praise thy name forever and ever.

  45. 24:01

Great is yower and greatly to be praised, and as great as is unsearchable. What beautiful words, if you understand what we’re saying. And if we change the way we live, and let me ask thy Kingdom come. Well, we all want the Kingdom to come as soon as possible. It’ll be a glorious time as we may fall into the dangers.

  46. 24:24

We look upon the Kingdom as a kind of glorified pension scheme. And it’s not this. Life is our training ground to learn to be kings and priests in the Kingdom. And again in Psalm 145, just let’s go to that Psalm. I just quoted from it.

  47. 24:47

Do you ever lived quietly in Jerusalem? And we were not Christed off. You’ve had much more time, and we spend our time learning many Psalms by heart. That’s when you don’t have to speak at Bible school. Then you’ve got more time to think about your prayers. So I’ve just read out to you. I will extol you, my Ellen the king, and I will bless thy name forever and ever.

  48. 25:07

And then if you go to verse 11, it says they shall speak of the glory of thy Kingdom and talk of thy power to make known to the sons of man his mighty acts and the glorious majesty of his Kingdom. Thy Kingdom is an everlasting Kingdom and thy dominion and Jews throughout all generations.

  49. 25:28

That’s what we will do in the Kingdom, to make known to the sons of man his mighty acts. And as we we need to do that now so that we can be doing that in the Kingdom, so all that will be involved, no point saying thy Kingdom come. We’ve got no clue what we’re going to do in the Kingdom.

  50. 25:47

You’ve got to Psalm 22. You looked at this Psalm quite a few times. The sound which Jesus said on the cross. You look how Jesus cried out this Psalm on the cross. Remember Ali Ali, Lama Sabachthani, why has thou forsaken me? Why, a few thorn pushed me, and we see all the crying out of Jesus on the cross. And we come to verse 20.

  51. 26:16

Deliver my soul from the sword, my, my only one from the power of the dark. Save me from the lion’s mouth. And then thou hast answered me from the horns of the Unicorn. And what will he do then? I will declare thy name unto my brethren. In the midst of the congregation will I praise thee, because Jesus is now fully clothed upon His immortality. He is the personification of the name of God, and He’s going to declare that unto His brethren.

  52. 26:49

And we need to do that now so that He can do it even better in the Kingdom. It’s only after Jesus overcame sin and death that He could look forward to the Kingdom. And then in verse 23 we see ye that fear Yahweh, praise Him. You see that Jacob natural Israel glorify him and fear him.

  53. 27:13

O ye the seed of Israel, spiritual Israel. And only then the all the ends of the world’s remember and turn unto Yahweh. And the kingdoms Kingdom will be Yahweh’s. And then thy will be done in earth as it is done in heaven. Our God’s will shall be done whatever. But the question is, are we doing God’s will? How can we pray this if you’re only willing to do our own will and not God’s will, however hard it was, Jesus said not mine, but thy will be done.

  54. 27:55

If you pray this and we don’t do it, we’re as hypocrites. But how do we do God’s will just grudgingly? Well, if I have to or have got a choice, or do we God’s will from the heart. And again, Jesus our example. He did not come to do his own will. He says my meat is to do the will of him that sent me and to finish his work. Jesus said no, like no importance for himself at all. He only wants to do the will of His Father, as He said in the Garden of Gethsemane.

  55. 28:31

And it teaches us to accept God’s will whatever difficult circumstance we may find ourselves in, because only then is God really our Father. And we need to pray for wisdom so that He can hallow His name. And it’s a wonderful example of a short prayer for wisdom and understanding in Psalm 119. It’s a section which we often pray, and it starts with the letter hey, and it is in verse 33.

  56. 29:05

James, as the very man, let wisdom, let him pray for wisdom, and God will give it to him. God, this the way to pray for wisdom. Teach me Thou the way of Thy statutes, and I shall keep it to the end. Give me understanding and I shall keep Thy law. Yeah, I shall observe this. My whole heart.

  57. 29:20

Make me to go in the path of Thy commandments, for therein do I delight. Incline my heart unto Thy testimonies, and not to covetousness. Turn away my knives from beholding vanity, and quicken me in thy way. Establish thy word unto thy servant, who is devoted to thy fear. Turn away my reproach, which I have fear, for thy judgements are good. We ought have longed after thy precepts. Quicker me in thy righteousness

  58. 29:50

and then God will is done and not our will. And then give us this day our daily breads. And he would says let him who Cano the bread which we need. It isn’t a 4-5 course meal, but it’s just the food which we need to sustain our soul. And Jesus says, behold the fowls of the air they sow not neither do the reap nor gather into barns, yet you heavenly Father feed us them.

  59. 30:18

Are you not much, much better than they? It says Psalm 145 we looked at earlier. That opens that hand and satisfies the desire of every living thing, and it takes away the worry of the want what we need for every day’s food. It says in Psalm 104, He causes the grass to grow for the cattle and herb for the service of men, that he may bring forth food out of the earth.

  60. 30:49

And often I conclude my prayer with Psalm 136, Who give us food to all flesh. For his mercy is forever is to the age for the O Lamb. Well, the previous request was for Our Daily Bread. And then it says, forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. It’s also translated as trespass and as sin. Sin in it’s by the application is of course missing the mark. A failure to realise the true aim of God’s will, a failure to do what we should do, a failure to obey God’s command. And we remember that whatsoever is not of faith is sin. And Jesus didn’t tell the disciples that sinners only should say this prayer.

  61. 31:39

He said after this minute, pray ye, we all need to ask God for forgiveness and we look before the sin of David and it’s Psalm 51, let’s go to Psalm 51. So did that great sin against Bathsheba and the killing of Euriatia. It was a great sin against Bathsheba and against Euriatia, but what does David actually say?

  62. 32:16

It says against thee the only have I sinned, and then this evil in thy sight, that thou might be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou art judged.

  63. 32:30

When we sin against each other, we first of all sin against God, because we transgress. His commandments teach us also to forgive others, because God’s ability to forgive us depends on our ability to forgive our brethren and sisters.

  64. 32:55

And David said so much in that same sound. If you go down to verse 12, he says, Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation and uphold me. There’s a willing spirit only then that I teach transgresses thy ways, and Sinner shall be converted unto thee. He first had to restore that mind of God, the joy of the salvation.

  65. 33:17

And the Lord’s Prayer is teaching us to love our neighbours as ourselves. For God’s attitude to men is determined by men’s attitude to His fellow man. If you can forgive others, it brings us closer to God. Then it says, lead us not into temptation. Now we know that God doesn’t tempt us to sin, but the world is full of temptations. We know also that human existence without temptation is impossible.

  66. 33:49

That word actually means to test or to try. James has let no man say when he’s tempted. I’m tempted of God, for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither temptethy any man to sin, to do evil, but he is testing us. That’s what Job said. He knows the way that I take. When he has tried me, I shall come forth as gold. Let’s go to Psalm 17.

  67. 34:30

So it’s a prayer of David, a prayer for the beloved here, right? Yeah. I attended to my cry. Give ear unto my prayer, not out of faint lips. My sentence shall come forth from thy presence. Thine eyes, behold the things that I equal. Thou hast proves my heart. Thou hast visited me in the night.

  68. 34:56

Thou hast tried me, tempted me, tested me, shalt find nothing. What a wonderful state to be in. I’m purpose that my mouth shall not transgress concerning the works of men. By the word of thy lips I’ve kept myself from the path of the destroyer. The more we use the fruit of lips, we will be saved from temptation and deliver us from the evil. No point is doing what you like.

  69. 35:34

I think Oh God will deliver us from evil. We’ve got to know the danger which we are in and although we realise the the inadequacy to deal with evil on our own, we need God’s help to overcome evil by realising that we cannot overcome evil all by ourselves. And again, Psalm 119 is such a wonderful Psalm. The first is in there which you can apply to almost every situation.

  70. 36:03

Look at Psalm 119 verse 94 and 95. It says, I am dying, save me, for I have sought thy precepts. The wicked have waited for me to destroy me, but I will consider thy testimonies. It says in 146, I cried unto thee, save me, deliver me from evil, and I shall keep thy testimonies. I prevented the dawning of the morning, and cried, I hoped in thy word, when I prevent the night watches, that I might meditate in thy word.

  71. 36:45

You see, in both instances I said, save me, for I’ve sought thy precepts. Save me, and I shall keep thy testimonies. It works two ways. We can’t expect God to deliver from evil and not to give ourselves over to His Word. The best way to be delivered from evil is to prayerfully meditate on His Word, as the same Psalm 119 says in verse 97. Oh, how love I thy law.

  72. 37:17

It’s my meditation all the day, and that will deliver us from evil. And that’s how God does it, through His Word. And then he ends that prayer, the Lord’s Prayer, with acknowledging God’s power and glory. Thine is the Kingdom and the power and the glory forever. And we’ve seen that reflected in one Chronicles 29, where David indeed says, when he blessed Yahweh, said, blessed be thou Yahweh, aim of Israel forever and ever. Thine, O Yahweh, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty. And that’s how the Lord Jesus Christ and his prayer and at victory.

  73. 38:00

Remember there was the word for the chief musician to him that overcometh and then dine is the Kingdom. We look forward to the great time of peace on the earth. Then Christ and the Saints will rule in righteousness. We will have the power then to look into men’s hearts and bring them back to God and the glory. It will be such a glorious time that we won’t even be able to imagine how beautiful it will be. And then we end the prayer with Amen. That means this is faithful, it is true. That’s the word, That’s the meaning of the word, Amen. And that prayer binds us together as brethren and sisters in Christ who are all trying to overcome sin with God’s help, and we look forward to a new life in the Kingdom. And so that is how Jesus ends his prayer, for that is the Kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

  74. 39:01

Now bring me to the last thought. We so often end our prayers by saying in the name of Jesus, Amen. Don’t he or something like it. It’s not like the Lord’s Prayer. He never said anything like it and brings you to the question we need to consider because we, we, we say it because in John 14, if you go to John 14, Jesus seems to indicate that we need to say that.

  75. 39:41

So that’s verse 14. If you shall ask anything in my name, I will do it. That’s quite handy, isn’t it? You can say whatever you ask, I’ll do it in my name. So please Lord, give me a Rolls Royce in the name of Yahweh, in the name of Jesus, Amen. And I’ll get it because it’s what he says. It’s not what it says.

  76. 40:06

Like he says we need to go to 1st next chapter, verse 15 and 16. No, same chapter, sorry. It says there. Yeah, if you. Ask anything in my name, I will do it. If you love me, keep my commandments. So it depends that we first of all keep the commandments.

  77. 40:34

It actually doesn’t say. I still got the right quote here. That’s the next chapter, verse 16. That’s right, the end of verse 16, chapter 15 and 16. So you’ve not chosen me, but I’ve chosen you and ordained you that you should go and bring forth fruit, that your fruit should remain, That whatsoever you shall ask the Father in my name, He may give it to you.

  78. 40:56

But first of all, it’s the fruit, It’s the fruit of lips which is to use in our prayers. Then don’t say in the Greek whatsoever you shall ask, Is that whatsoever you may ask in my name? I don’t think it actually means that we can end our prayer by saying in the name of Jesus, Amen. As if that little phrase is a magical formula that sanctifies whatever list of demands we had before presented before the Lord.

  79. 41:25

To say something in the name of somebody else is a concept. It’s not a magic formula. I want you to go to One Samuel chapter 25. They’ve got an example maybe the story about Nabel and Abigail and David being in the area and looking after the shepherds to show nothing was got lost.

  80. 41:56

And then the time of shearing came. And 1st 4 when David heard in the wilderness that Nabel did shear his sheep. And David sent out 10 young men. And David said unto the young man, get you up to Carmel and go to Nabel and greet him in my name.

  81. 42:25

Thus shall you say to him that lives in prosperity. And now you get the words that David wanted those young men to say to Nabel. Peace be to thee, and peace be to thy house, and peace be unto all that thou hast. And now I’ve heard that thou hast cheerers now there, now thy shepherds were with us, and we heard them not.

  82. 42:47

Now there was their aught missing unto them all the while they were in Carmel asked thy young men, and they will show thee. Therefore let the young men find favour in thy eyes, for we come in a good day. Give, I pray thee, whatsoever cometh to thy hands, unto thy servant, and to thy son David. And when David young men came, they spake to Nabel according to all those words in the name of David and ceased they added nothing to it.

  83. 43:21

So they didn’t expect them to go to Nabel said Hi guy, have you looked after your flock? So please give us something to eat. If they would have said said that, they didn’t say it in the name of David. They were to say exactly the words which David spoke to them word by word the same. And they did that.

  84. 43:43

They added nothing to it, and then they spoke those words in the name of David. So to say something in somebody’s name, then we need to use the exact words. So if you use the words of Christ, which is in the Psalms, hymns, in the spiritual songs, we don’t have to add on in the name of Jesus because you have just done it.

  85. 44:12

We need to do it not as a magic formula at the end of our prayer. If you pray in the name of Jesus, we need to use His words. If you use our own words, that is not praying in the name of Jesus, we have no guarantee that you’ll get what you want. But if you use the Holy Spirit words, the word of Christ, which is in the psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, then we pray in His name and we can just easily end our prayer. For that is the Kingdom, the power, and the glory forever because you’ve just done it.

  86. 44:49

It’s not a magical formula at the end of our prayer. Well, at the end, Jesus after this manner praying. So here’s for example an example that works for me, taking the Lord’s Prayer and then using some words to say the same thing. You can say something like this. Our Father, our rock, our God, the rock of our salvation.

  87. 45:17

My help comes from Yahweh. It’s made heaven and earth. That’s what He does when it’s in heaven. Teach me Thy way, Yahweh, our walk and Thy truth. Unite my heart to fear Thy name, Thy Kingdom come. Thy Kingdom is an everlasting Kingdom, and Thy dominion and Jews throughout all generations. And make me to go in the path of Thy commandments, for therein do I delights Our Daily Bread.

  88. 45:40

Thou opus Thy hand and satisfy the desire of every living thing, and bring Thou me out of my distresses. Look upon my infliction in my pain and forgive all my sins. And we prayed our may as two major Jerusalem we praise in the earth in that Kingdom that is dying, and the power and the glory, Amen. That is just pray after this manner either substituted all what Jesus said with phrases from the sons, and then you actually do what Jesus wants you to do. And because these are the words of Christ and we have prayed in His name already, we don’t have to tag it on at the end of our prayer.

  89. 46:17

Still we need to, we can only pray to God through the sacrifice of Christ. But in the name. If you say something in somebody’s name, you, you, you’ve got to use the exact words, otherwise you don’t do it. And I say this not to criticise anybody, but to to to make us more aware how we address the Almighty in our prayer followed the example of the Lord Jesus Christ and and play upon the harp, as it were a different melody every time you can. There’s so many beautiful sayings in the Psalm that you can use in our prayer and we all feel inadequate. I do in my prayer, certainly at composing prayers to God. But this method had worked for us and Ioffer it only as a suggestion.

  90. 47:05

I think we need to spend a bit more time and a bit more work in to formulate our prayers before we say them to God.

  91. 47:16

But if you do this, they’ll be following the steps of David and of Solomon, of Hannah and of Mary, who used part of the Psalms to make their own personal prayers. And if we do that, then we are instructed in the songs of Yahweh. If you go finally to Psalm 119 again, it says that thy statutes have been my sons in the House of my pilgrimage, that we own a pilgrimage.

  92. 47:52

But Hebrew doesn’t say songs. It used the word psalms, and the word order in the Hebrew would go like this. Psalms have been my statutes in the House of my pilgrimage, and I’ve found these the best tools to help us on the way to the Kingdom.
