This is Idlewild 1982, the second period class day number six, Our speaker, his brother HP Mansfield. His general title is Before the Deluge and today’s topic, A Doomed World. Brother Purse.
- 0:22
My dear brethren and sisters in Christ Jesus, in our talk yesterday we introduced the 6th chapter of Genesis, which records the world before the flood. We saw that there was a world problem and there was an ecclesial problem, and it was really the ecclesial problem that projected the judgement that fell upon that world.
- 0:48
If it was only a matter of the world, God could have dealt with that and left the world as it was and the ecclesia developing therein. But once the ecclesia had drifted, as it had in the case of Noah’s day, then of course judgement alone waited that will.
- 1:06
The world of that state was in an evil state, as we pointed out yesterday. It was not so much an idolatrous state as a godless state, a blasphemous state, when every principle of righteousness was set aside, and self itself was worshipped. So we have it in verse 4 of that chapter, the 6th chapter. There were giants of the earth in those days, and also after, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bear children to them.
- 1:35
There were giants in the earth, and that seems by the words of that verse, as though those giants of the earth attracted the the sons of God. Those giants of the earth were not so much giants in stature as giants in crime and in power. They were giants of in industry and in commerce and in politics.
- 1:58
And the word that has translated giants, the word nephilim, really means that they were fallen ones. They were men like Nimrod, who came afterward a giant in the earth as far as his influence was concerned, but desperately wicked as far as his relationships with Almighty God. And these were not only giants, but they were mighty men of renown. And the term there, the Hebrew term there can imply that they were military men skewed in war, but they were skewed in war like Enos.
- 2:28
They were morally depraved. And this was the world that was developing at that time. They are, we are told in that 4th, 1st mighty men, which were evolved men of renown, so that here we are. They were men of renown, or as the word of the Hebrew means, men of name. They’re going to establish their name of the earth and they’re going to call their possessions after their name because they want that name to remain forever and they think they’re building for perpetuity. They’re going to establish their power and their might or their business, and that’s going to last over for for generation after generation.
- 3:06
That’s what we’re told in the 49th Psalm. That’s what we see in the Earth today, and the world is building up its resources in such a way that the world imagines that those resources will never fail. They feel that the future looms before them in the interminable distance, and so they’re building up their material possessions, they’re building up their material technology, and they imagine that these things are going to last forever. And that’s their philosophy at this time. They are mediable now.
- 3:38
They set themselves high above their fellows. They care not for God or man. And so we read in verse 5 that God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth. And the Hebrew word that’s translated wickedness, there is a Hebrew word that signifies to break in pieces. They broke in pieces the established order.
- 3:59
They destroyed every law of restraint they got not going to be held in by anything. They harm themselves and their others by so doing. And that very word suggests all that, that it is a a breaking in pieces of an established order. It is a matter of destroying every law of restraint and of harming others and themselves in so doing.
- 4:26
Look at your world about you today. Isn’t that the picture that presents itself today has every standard and set aside and men are pleasing themselves. Isn’t it? Now that we see every nor of restraint removed, the men imagine that pleasure is obtained in in getting what they want, What I want, what I believe, what I’m gonna do. That’s the philosophy of today, and that’s why the world is such a happy place.
- 4:53
So happy that violence is increasing on every side, so happy that there’s no amity even it between the employer and the employee. And men are miserable and unhappy no matter what they’ve got. They imagine that happiness is immaterial possessions. Never did they make a greater mistake than that, because happiness is not fairly material possessions.
- 5:16
It’s fairly those things that we give ourselves to when we make principle of sacrifice. And you know, when you come to reason about for yourself, the greatest source of pleasure is in self sacrifice. You find that even in your own life, you take it this way. When you’re a little child and you want to pay some love to your parents, you save up your pennies, since I suppose we call them now.
- 5:45
You save those up until you buy something for them because you want to show your love to them. And you know there’s a sense of excitement and pleasure as you gather this money together and you buy what you choose for them. You know that I’ve seen that in the faces of my children when they were little children back home.
- 6:04
And they would save up their pennies, they would work that they might buy something for me, a tie. And they come on my birthday or something like that. And here’s the tie, a hideous looking thing, but the little face, you know, bright with expectancy, and you’ve got to put the thing on and go around with it.
- 6:21
And that Kitty is getting greater joy than me because I think it’s a frightful tie. And you see, and that happiness is with the one that’s sacrificing. I think it was Shakespeare that said it is more blessed to give than to receive. And life is like that. You get a joy out of giving things.
- 6:36
God teaches us that. And there’s a joy out of sacrifice. There’s a joy out of self denial who help someone else. And there’s a sense of satisfaction when this is done and someone has helped and aided because you have gone out of your way to do that for them. But these people in the world at large, they don’t see it like that. The philosophy of the world at large is you’re not happy until you’ve got everything you want.
- 7:00
And you find that philosophy ingrained in every sense of philosophy today. Open your newspapers. What have you got? I got the London, not the London, the Los Angeles Times to see the news. It’s confined in a little space like this, but the rest of it is advertisements and so forth. And it’s amazing.
- 7:20
You see, you see a great big refrigerator full of food and the doors open. Everyone’s gritting like monkeys looking at the food and the influence of the and the, the implication of the advertisement is, look, your life’s not happy unless you’ve got that size of refrigerator. Look at the tiny 1 you got now. Or someone’s got a great big motor car. You know, the fathers they’re driving, the kids are all looking out in the back and really like anything. And everyone’s like this till they get home and see the mortgage.
- 7:49
And you see, they think that life is happy. They’re living in a fantasy. They’re living in a fantasy. And those advertisements are encouraging that fantasy. That’s not the reality at all. Not at all. You’re not leaving unless you got the latest in motor cars, the latest in refrigerators, the latest in carpets. You know, on one occasion I already got a letter from a sister directed to Mr. Mansfield.
- 8:17
It was directed to my son, who’s the recorder of the meeting. But I happen to get it because, of course, my officers wear his art. It’s too. I opened that letter and it wasn’t written to me. It was written to him, but it was a letter of resignation from the meeting, and it was a letter to the arranging brethren.
- 8:36
Well, I did something awfully unconstitutional. I put the letter in my pocket and with my sister, wife, we went and visited this sister and we wanted to know what was the matter. And she was not coming to the meetings and so forth and so on. And as we unfolded the unhappy story, what really was the matter?
- 8:55
What really was the matter when you come to work here, they’re all out, was that she couldn’t afford to live without going to work on these nights when there’s a study class or even on the Sunday and so forth because she wanted this and she wanted that. And I sat there and I listened to her in amazement. And I said to her, and if you understand what you’re telling me, I said I’m wearing out your carpet. I’ve been treading on it and I’ve worn it out to a certain extent.
- 9:20
And you are spending time to get that carpet there and you’re giving away eternal life for this darn carpet that’s wearing out anyway. And I don’t think much of the colour. And you’ll get into that eternal life for that. And we talked this way. And fortunately, on that occasion anyway, she came back.
- 9:40
But you see, that was really what it was. They’ve got their priorities wrong. Their priorities were wrong. As it was in the days of Noah, so shall it be at the coming of the Son of Man. They ate, they drank, they married, they gave lives in marriage, they bought, they sold, and the flood came upon them. Everything legitimate, all the legitimate things of life occupying their mind.
- 10:08
They’re busy around this. The businesses there, the house is there, the families there. We’re busy about this. We haven’t got time for that. We cannot do the daily readings, the study classes a little bit awkward tonight and the memorial meetings are set aside and for legitimate things are things of eternal life are set aside. And that’s the challenge, brothers and sisters to the brotherhood today to put your priorities right and see that those priorities are carried out. Now here you have a state of things where you have wickedness in the earth.
- 10:41
It was an age of affluence. It was an age of indifference to the requirements of God. It was an age of gross wickedness. It was an age of blatant permissiveness. And God says that in verse 5, not only that he saw that the wickedness of man was great on the earth, but that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually revolving around the minds of men and women everywhere, including unfortunately, the sons of God. Revolving around their minds was their material advantages and the things that they could do and the things that are going to get for their pleasure.
- 11:20
And they forget the things of God. They forget that there is even a God. They mail the words of God. Perhaps they attend the meetings, perhaps, but they are not really moved by that. And we read that it repented Yahweh, that He made man upon the earth. The word means it grieves him.
- 11:38
So he’s going to change his purpose or introduce some change in the purpose. And the word repent, as it’s used in the Bible in its original form, means to change your mind or purpose. For example, on the day of Pentecost, when Peter was preaking, the people were pricked in their heart. They were sad and sorry for what they had done. And they said, Madam, brethren, what shall we do? They were already sorry, you see. And Peter says, repent and be baptized. And that word repent means to turn around and change your way of life.
- 12:11
It means a change of mind. So you see here God is going to change His purpose in order to handle the situation that occurs. And notice this lovely expression in that verse because we read and it grieved Him at his heart. This is God. It grieved Him at his heart. You see, we don’t make God real,
- 12:43
almighty Gods in heaven, untouched by the feelings that afflict us. So we think that God has feelings. He is a God of love. He is a God of anger because you can’t have one without the other. He is a God that is exercises His feelings. He was with his Son when his Son died upon the cross that affected him as a father.
- 13:15
He has invited us to call him father because he understand. We understand that term. We know what a father is. We know the hearts of a father towards a children. We know how the hearts of the children are towards a father, a parent, and those expressions are here that we might be drawn closer to God. We might understand that when you turn over to the 63rd chapter of Isaiah and you read concerning the people of Israel in the wilderness.
- 13:43
We read this concerning Almighty God in verse 9. In all their afflictions He was afflicted, and the Angel of his presence saved them in his Marvin. In his pity he redeemed them and bear them, and carried them all the days of old. Never thought of that about God. In all their afflictions he was afflicted.
- 14:09
He felt for them. He saw them hungry in the wilderness. He saw them wanting water. He’s afflicted by that the same as a parent will be for a child when he can see a child acting in a certain way. But he knows it’s best for that child to be disciplined. He knows for the good of that child it is better that he allows him to go on that course, until finally that child learns that lesson. But the heart of the my father is afflicted by it. I am a parent.
- 14:38
I am confident that parents feel it more bitterly and more deeply than their children. And as you look over your children and you see them suffering in a certain way, you would do a foolish thing. You would stop them suffering and you would prevent that happening. Not Almighty God in His wisdom, but let us understand and let Israel understand. He wasn’t indifferent.
- 15:01
He’s not indifferent. He understands in all their afflictions he was afflicted. And as far as the Lord Jesus Christ is concerned, we are told by Paul in Hebrews that we have northern high priest that cannot be in touch with the feelings of our infirmities, our infirmities, our very weaknesses. He was touched in all points like that and therefore we can with every confidence go unto the Father through the Lord Jesus Christ in prayer, recognizing that he understands and he feels for us.
- 15:32
We are his sons and we’re going to see that at the moment in in the in the 6th chapter of Genesis. So that you see it, it grieved him at his heart, particularly as he saw the attitude of the sons of God and as he looked down upon that world, the world that’s wicked and corrupt.
- 15:53
And see it again described in verse 12. The earth was corrupt for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth. So His way is not in men’s thoughts. The earth was filled with violence. We read in verse 13. So here is the world given over the wickedness, an absolutely corrupt world. A world that is full of violence and darkness is there. And as Almighty God is looking down upon that world, He sees nothing but evil and wickedness and darkness. The repudiation of His way.
- 16:25
He’s created man for a specific purpose. The sole reason God created man was that man should reflect to His glory. But it is a whole given over to the worship of self and flesh, and the eyes of Almighty God looks down upon that darkened globe. And as it looks down upon that darkened globe, he says Noah and look in verse 8. But but Noah found grace in the eyes of Yahweh. He found grace.
- 17:01
The word means favour. He found the favour of God. Last night I was sitting in the back row and you couldn’t see very well up here. But you know this. I have sat in the audiences when there have been young people’s items and I’ve seen those young people there. I’ve seen quite a lot of young people on the platform, little toddlers on the platform too. And you know, sometimes back in Woodville, there we might have 30 or so on the platform performing, but I only see one my grandson or grandchild.
- 17:36
The eyes of parents single out upon their own child upon the platform, don’t they? And it doesn’t matter what the items like, as long as your child has done something good upon that platform, your eye turns that much. See the Father in the heavens, countless millions upon the earth. But Noah, Noah, there’s his true Son, and his eyes take hold of Noah and his family.
- 17:58
Noah found grace in the eyes of Yahweh, and the eyes of Yahweh centered down upon him as the eyes of God will centered down upon us if we stand as His sons and daughters. And understand, merely because we call ourselves Christadelphians does not necessarily constitute us a brother or relative of Christ. Not at all.
- 18:19
Remember this, that in the 22nd chapter of Genesis, Abraham was told to take his only son whom he loved and offer him as an offering. Abraham had more than one son, but the Angel never made a mistake when he said to Abraham, Take your only son. Because though Abraham had several that might have called themselves sons of Abraham, there was only one son that was truly Abraham’s son.
- 18:43
Because a son of anything in the Hebrew form means one filled with that. A son of God is 1 filled with God. A son of Belial is 1 filled with with worthlessness. A son of the devil is 1 Filled with one’s own flesh. So you see here was a true son of God of the eyes of of of God found is centred upon Noah and he found grace in the eyes of Yahweh.
- 19:05
You know that word grace is a wonderful word to to trace through the Bible, and it is. And it is matched by another word in the, in the Hebrew that translators find very, very difficult to translate. And very often it’s translated mercy, but mercy is not the word at all. It’s really better grace. And you’ll find that word used in Psalm 86 and verse 2. Preserve my soul, for I am holy.
- 19:37
Now this is similar to the word cassade, holy, but it doesn’t mean holy and it doesn’t mean mercy. It means one for whom another one has a special relationship. Now see it in the margin. The margin gives an alternate rendition. One whom they’ll favourist. I am one who male favourist whom God is selected for that favour.
- 20:01
Now Noah was such a man as that Noah and his family. And as far as Almighty God was concerned, Noah found grace in the eyes of Yahweh. We are told that Noah was a just man and perfect in his generation. And the word perfect there means mature. He was grown up, he was a mature man.
- 20:22
He was a mature in this regard, that he worshipped God rightly. You know in the 12th chapter of Ecclesiastes that Moses sums up the whole matter. And what is the whole matter? Fear God. And, and I should know this off by hat. What is it? Fear God and keep His commandments. Fair God and keep his commandments.
- 20:47
For this is the whole man, not the whole duty of man. It reads that way, but the word duty is not in the original. Fair God and keep his commandments. That’s a whole man. These are not whole men outside. They’re like little children. The whole man is a mature man who worships God and keeps his commandments because he knows that the right thing to do. He knows that’s an investment for the future. He’s acting maturely.
- 21:13
He’s not like a child. He’s acting maturely. This is Noah. He was a perfect man. He was mature. He’d grown up. He was a just man of perfect in his generations, and he walked with God. And we saw what that meant when we considered Enoch yesterday. He walked with God because God was a reality to him. And in that age of corruptness and wickedness and violence, there was one family anyway standing aside from it all giving him themselves over to the things of God, walking with God and the eyes of God centered upon that man. Just to show you how that that happens, let’s just have a look at the the Samuel, the first of Samuel chapter 2. Just an interesting feature here because in the first of Samuel chapter 2, you read about the sons of Eli. You read that they were sons of a loyal, sons of a loyal. They knew not Yahweh we read, and yet they knew all about it and they could distort about it, but they didn’t know him in the true sense of the word, in that that knowledge didn’t react upon them in a certain way.
- 22:17
But there’s a very interesting thing emerges in this chapter, which is the first of Samuel chapter 2. And just see what emerges. Look in verse 11, the child Samuel did minister unto Yahweh before Eli the priest. Now the sons of Eli were sons of Belial. See how they put together. There is the child ministering unto God. But these priests, the son of Eliah again, verse 17. The sin of the young man was great before Yahweh. Verse 18.
- 22:50
That Samuel ministered before him. Verse 25. They hearken not unto the voice of their father. Verse 26. And the child Samuel grew on. It was in favour with both God and man. And in that first of Samuel chapter 2, the action of the sons of Levi are contrasted with the action of Samuel. In every case you see God was looking down and He was singling out what Samuel was doing.
- 23:17
So it was in this 6th chapter of Genesis as his eyes take in in Noah and Noah finds grace in his eyes. And so now the the the Noah begat three sons, Shameham and Japheth. And the time of the long-suffering of God had almost completed. Remember that Peter says in the first of Peter chapter 3, the long-suffering of God waited in the days of Noah.
- 23:45
And I’ll remind you what I said before, that the word waited there signifies to wait with arm outstretched to help. And God’s arm is outstretched to help. He’s going to leave it for a certain period of time before he just disciplines that age. Noah is preaching, and therefore perhaps some will harken to the preaching of Noah.
- 24:04
And therefore God holds off the threatened judgement. The long-suffering of God waits with almonds outstretched to help as it does at this present moment of time, as it does at this present moment of time. Peter again being witness. And now in this particular chapter we have the developing crisis in three stages, and these three stages are indicated by a declaration or a revelation that comes from God, a threefold revelation. First of all, in verse three, there he spake and said, My Spirit shall not always strive with man, for that He is also flesh, yet his day shall be 120 years. So at that point of time the declaration came that he will not always strive with man.
- 24:57
He’ll give him 120 years to repent. That is declaration #1 there’s a time limit set now and then we have the second declaration in verse 7. I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth. Man has deteriorated. Now the second declaration says I will destroy. Then again in verse 13 we read and God said the end of all flesh is come. Now you see there are three declarations in that chapter. The first of which says that there is a set time. The second which says that set time is revealed. No, no reformation I will destroy. And the third declaration says that time is calm, that time has come.
- 25:50
You know, I believe that we’ve heard two of those declarations in modern times. I believe that we are witnessing this taking place at the present moment. The first of them indicated that there was a set time and that we’re at the time of the end. The second declaration shows that the time of destruction is coming.
- 26:13
And the third one is the time of the end is here. The end of all flesh has come. Now come with me to the 21st chapter of Ezekiel. Not the 20th, 37th. I’m sorry, the 37th chapter of Ezekiel and see how that there are three a threefold prophecy here relating to the purpose of Almighty God. And this threefold prophecy, I believe, answers to the threefold declaration that you have in the 37 in the 6th chapter of Genesis.
- 26:41
The purpose of Almighty God and this threefold prophecy, I believe answers to the threefold declaration that you have in the 37 in the 6th chapter of Genesis, in Ezekiel chapter 37, verse 21. Behold, I will take the children of Israel from among the nations, whether they be gone, and will gather them on every side and bring them into their own land. When did that begin to come to pass out of World War One? Of course, out of World War One, the Delphi Declaration opened the way for the Jewish people to return and the Jewish people began to return and the brethren recognized that as a great sign. In Psalm 102 we read that the set time is favorite is come. We read that when the Lord shall build up Zion, He shall appear in His glory.
- 27:28
So that when those gates of Palestine swung open in 19117 and the Jewish people began to return to the land, it was obvious to those that understood the word of God that there was the set time had almost come that will reach the time of the end, no doubt about that. And that was the beginning of something that was going to culminate in the establishment of the Kingdom of God. And it was a terminal.
- 27:54
It was a beginning of an epoch of time that would culminate in the establishment of the Kingdom of God. And to my mind that answers to the first declaration of God, when God said that there would be a set time before that judgement, a time of waiting which would give opportunity to others to repent. Now the prophet goes on to say in verse 22, And I will make them one nation in the land upon the mountains of Israel. So in 19148 the Jewish state came into existence. It is said that the only good thing that came out of World War One was the Palestine as a home for the Jews. The only good thing that came out of World War 2 was the establishment of the State of Israel. But not only that, but in World War One, we not only had that the doors of Palestine opening that the Jews might return, but we had in Russia the communist regime established therein. And in World War Two, we not only had the Jewish state come into existence, but they dropped the atom bomb, didn’t they, and demonstrated that the destruction of humanity was in the power of men to accomplish.
- 29:04
And the next the second declaration of God in in in in Genesis 6 was I will destroy all flesh. And now we read in this passage of Ezekiel. And one king shall be king of to them all. 1/3 development. The nation becomes a monarchy. So first of all Ezekiel sees 3 developments. He sees development #1 the doors open to receive Palestine. Development #2 the nation established. Development #3 he sees the monarchy re established, World War One and the doors of Palestine swig open. World War 2 and the Jewish state comes into existence. World War Three and Christ in the earth. And that’s what you’ve got in Genesis chapter 6. First declaration, time is limited. Second declaration, destruction looms. Third declaration, the end of all time is calm. Now we go back to Genesis chapter 6 and we read in verse 12 that God looked upon the earth and behold it was corrupt, for all flesh had corrupted his way. And he says in verse 13 I will destroy them. In the Hebrew the word for corrupt and the word for destroy is the same.
- 30:33
So you can, if you like, state in verse 12, God looked upon the earth and behold, it was destroyed, for all flesh were destroying his way upon the earth. Those words are cited. Those words are floated in Revelation Chapter 11 and verse 18. In Revelation Chapter 11 and verse 18, those very words are quoted by the by the Lord Jesus Christ in the Apocalypse.
- 31:03
In this statement the nations were angry, and the wrath has come at the time of the dead, that they should be judged. And that thou should US give reward unto those servants, the prophets, and to the Saints, and them that fear thy name small and great, And should US destroy them which destroy the earth, or if you follow the margin, corrupt them that would corrupt the earth. And those words are cited from Genesis chapter 6 of the Epoch of time, just before the flood.
- 31:31
Have we reached an age in Jewish history and Jewish history? We have reached an age in world history when man is in his power to destroy this earth, when man is busily corrupting this earth. And here we have a book here, brother and sisters, that 2000 years ago said that at the time of Jesus Christ coming, man will have it in his power to destroy the earth or corrupt the earth.
- 31:55
And that book’s true, but as it was in the days of Noah, so shall it be at the coming of the Son of Man. Those words are true, and man is in that stage where that declaration will soon be heard. The end of the flesh has come and pray God, it may be very soon the end of all flesh has come. So we go to the declaration of third Paul to the Hebrews in Hebrews Chapter 11, and we listen to what is stated in regard to to Noah at that particular time. And here’s the witness of Noah as these things are developing. And this must be our witness as well by faith, Noah, my faith, brethren and sisters, by his confident anticipation of things hoped for, his full persuasion of things not seen. Because that man Noah, his eyes were centred not upon the present, but on the realities of the future. Because he can see clearly what is going to take place, and he can see that the great objective in life must be the establishment of the Kingdom of God. Being warned of God, of things not seen as yet as we are. Move with fear, move with fear, reverence for Almighty God prepared an ark to the saving of his house. That’s what he did.
- 33:18
He prepared that ark for the saving of his house. As far as he was concerned, he saw that it was absolutely essential, as far as he and his house were concerned that they should be saved. You could see there was no future in the life about him. So he built that ark to the saving of his house, by which he condemned the world that was part of his ministry. He condemned the world like Enoch did before him. The Lord cometh with 10,000 of His Saints to execute vengeance upon them that know not him, and to punish them for all their ungodly deeds of their own.
- 33:55
Godly speeches. The Lord’s coming with 10,000 of His Saints, He’s going to deal with this world. That’s the message that they set forth at that particular time. And Noah condemned the world whilst he built that ark for the saving of his house. And he become the heir of the righteousness which is by faith, the heir of the righteousness which is by faith. And see Noah there by those means, by the means of his preaching, by the means of his action, by building up that ark for himself and his family, he was able to save himself at that particular time.
- 34:30
He condemned the world, but he saved himself and he saved his family at that time. And so as far as the the Noah’s wit Lewis was concerned, it was by faith. I had hoped to have completed these studies yesterday and just run through this chapter on faith and to see the men and women of the past, how they reacted under faith, under the circumstances of their life. But time of course, has caught up with me, but I’d like to direct your attention to one man because of course it’s so relevant to our own associations with the things of God. And that is this man Moses.
- 35:11
You see in verse 24, by faith, Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter. He refused it by faith. He did that. He could have become the next Pharaoh, but he refused it because he knew that the will of God was not that he would serve the world about him. You know, some of us might have reasoned if we were Moses, we may have reasoned that as Pharaoh we will be able to help our own countrymen, our own Jewish associations, associates, not Moses.
- 35:48
He realized that God required of him a certainty and he refused. He refused. And the very word refused implies an argument. There was an argument there. Moses was told that he had been brought up for that very purpose here. Pharaoh’s daughter said, I save you out of that water. I’ve educated you to be a Prince. I don’t want you to go out and not on my house. You’re being brought up to this point in time for that purpose. He refused.
- 36:13
He’d have nothing to do with it. He chose it rather to suffer affliction with the people of God than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season. He esteemed the reproach of Christ by the riches and the treasures of Egypt. Ever seen the treasures of Egypt? I have. I’ve seen the gold glittering there. I know what those treasures of Egypt mean. There’s nothing like it in all, all the world. I’ve seen the treasures of Philip and Messerman. Not a patch upon the treasures of To take Amen, and to take Amen was a lesser, fairer.
- 36:43
This man could have had all the treasures of the earth. Could Moses, but he chose to suffer approach of Christ and he saw that as greater riches. Understand. Understand that he knew what he was doing. He was a Jew, and a Jew knows a good bargain. And you see, there were the riches of the world, there was the future. He put them on the scales, on the balance to see which one went down heaviest the riches of the world there, and he’s hoped for the future there.
- 37:10
And that went down because he had a vision of it by faith. He did that and see, it says that he had respect under the recompense of the reward. He was in the full. He knew what he was doing. He had respect for the recompense of the reward. He’d studied deeply the pledges of God’s Word. He’d got his mind immersed in these things, and those things now stood him in good stead.
- 37:38
He knew what he was talking about and he knew what the future would reveal, and he plundered that and he sought for what it was, real and tangible, an investment for the future and just a little time of suffering, reproach, in this case, 120 years. But eternity is before Moses, and eternity can be before us. Brethren and sisters, I’ll give you a few references because time is not where it allowed me to do it. Where the flood is referred to outside of Genesis and outside of the New Testament.
- 38:15
Oh, not outside of the New Testament, but you have the warning of the flood in the words of Job 22, verses 15 to 23. And they’re well worth considering. The warning of the flood in Job chapter 22 and verse 15 onwards. Because there you have that warning. Hast thou might the old way, which wicked men have trodden, which were cut down out of time, whose foundations were over threat, flown with a flood.
- 38:44
So Job and his friends discuss these things. Psalm 29 verses 10 and 11. He will sit enthrone. God sat enthroned at the flood. We are told there in Isaiah 54 verses 8 and 10, there is the consolation drawn from it. And in the first Peter 3 and the second of Peter three, there is of course the exhortation. And we will just look again at that exhortation of second of Peter chapter 3, because Peter there says this. Seeing them that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, Looking for and earnestly desiring the coming of the day of God?
- 39:30
Looking for and earnestly desiring the coming of the day of God. And in the meantime account that the long-suffering of God is salvation. It’s our opportunity. That’s what he means, our opportunity to make Our Calling an election. Short time is short. Let’s use it objectively. Let us see that we can put into practice the principles of Almighty God. And if we do that, then we can look with equanimity and with hope to this developing world of wickedness, knowing that the strong, infallible hands of Jesus Christ shall soon take hold in the name of God.
- 40:06
It’s been a great pleasure, brethren and sisters, to be with you at this Bible school. Indeed it has. It’s been lovely to renew fellowships with those that we’ve met before and also to extend our fellowship with those we have not met previously. Both Sister Doris and myself. I’d like to thank you very much for your hospitality, your kindness, and your fellowship in the things of God.
- 40:31
We leave unfortunately today because we’ve got to be at the Manitoulin School tomorrow and then the following Sunday at the Midwest School and the following Sunday after that at the Silver Star School. And then we take plane to New Zealand for the New Zealand School. And then when that ends, of course the Australian still still school commences, which are supposed to be at, but I’ve told them I don’t think I’ll be able to get to the Australian school. It’s been a great pleasure for us to be with you here. We would leave with you a final excitation that it’s to the extent that we immerse our minds and the things of God, the Word of God, we will make Our Calling and election. Sure.
- 41:10
That’s what Noah did. He built the ark whilst he condemned the world by his very action. If we can help you at all in that regard, we would be very happy to do so. If you would like to study these subjects a little more deeply and prepare to mark up your Bible with them, I would be quite happy to send you study notes on each of the verses right up to the 6th chapter of Genesis. I haven’t got study notes on them, so I’d have to prepare these for you.
- 41:37
I’ll be very happy to do that if you want that done, but I wouldn’t want to do it just for you to take those study notes and put them in the shell. If you are prepared to make up your Bible on these things and study them for yourself, then I would be very happy to play that part in forwarding these notes to you and also to give you some suggestions if you want them on such a thing as Bible marking. But may Yahweh be with you and may be with us in our traveling since we depart this place.
- 42:07
May the Lord Jesus Christ soon return, and may it be our great privilege and joy to be associated together in the ecclesia of God in the age to cut when we will see eye to eye with every with each other. No longer will there be any misunderstanding or anything of that nature clothed upon within mortality associated with the Lord Jesus Christ and able to meet with with Noah and with Enoch and with these other men, and to inquire of them, what were things like in your day?
- 42:40
And they might say to us, well, you lived in days comparable to ours, what were things like in your day? And we may be able to speak together of the association of one another around the Word of God and rejoice in that day, because it’s been fruitful even unto light eternal. May God bless you, and may He bless us to that it.
- 43:00
And may this time soon come when Barbour stores are rendered unnecessary in the presence of the greatest school of all time, presided over by the Lord Jesus Christ.
