Our third speaker this morning is Brother Dennis Bevins from the Austin Leander, TX Ecclesia. The theme for Brother Dennis’s class this week is Noah Saving Your Family in a Dark World. Today’s class is entitled Babel and the United Nations. Well, this class is more like an intermission. Perhaps it would be better served with popcorn and soda pop. But the bottom line is we’re going to take a little break from the story of Noah to kind of have a meanwhile back at the ranch moment.
- 0:42
The the last chapter of the story of Noah really kind of finds its way into chapters 10 and 11 from a timeline standpoint. And because the Bible is written in cereal, we tend to feel like this guy died and then this guy died, then this guy died. But in reality, they’re all alive at the same time. So because after the flood, we’ve got another 350 years of Noah’s life, that’s what brings us into the story of Babel in chapter 10, Chapter 11.
- 1:13
And rather than finish on that, felt it might be better to break up the action and do it in the middle. You ultimately will get to decide whether that was a good decision or not, but that was the intent behind it. So this is going to get us a look at what happened next.
- 1:29
So we mentioned the Genesis record closes on Noah at the end of Chapter 9. We’ll see that in the next couple days. And we know very little about the family after the flood. So since the, the the Bible then is going to give us a little insight as to what happens on the planet after the flood, we’re going to kind of incorporate that story into this story.
- 1:47
Reality is they happen concurrently. Now, the Bible is not a history book or a science book, but a spiritual guide book. And so you because of that, we see many pieces of the Bible are assembled in lesson order, not necessarily historical order, if you will. And probably the best way to illustrate that is Genesis chapter 5. And I know, Oh, you can read that fairly well, actually. All right, good.
- 2:12
I didn’t think you could read any of that. You can read some of it. Those lines are lifespans. Those are all the people mentioned in Genesis chapter 5. And the reason we put them up there together is so that if you look, you can see that there could have been an Addams family get together and everyone mentioned in Genesis 5 up to Noah could have been there. They were all alive at the same time at some point, including Enoch.
- 2:44
So therefore everyone in Genesis 5 except Noah could have been given a first person account of creation. That’s amazing because we don’t really think about that. Can you imagine? Let’s have a meal and Methuselah and Adam are having a chat about the first sin that could have happened. And I’m not saying they hung out every day and did this every weekend because they were going away from the center, but they were all alive at the same time.
- 3:15
And Noah himself could have had a second person account of creation. Anybody besides Adam and our friend Enoch could have shared what happened in creation from a second person account. So I think it helps us to see that these things didn’t happen 1234, but they happened 1234 in concert with each other. Now a similar thing happens in the next Bank of stories too. This is Genesis chapter 10 verse one. These are the generations of the son of Noah, Shem, him and Japheth.
- 3:53
Unto them were sons born after the flood. Now if I was trying to put you down for a mid morning nap, we could do a genealogy this morning. So don’t let your eyes roll back yet. We’re only going to do part of it to set the stage. Couple simple comments. This is the story of the children after the flood, so there’s no record or whether they lost children in the flood as we mentioned I think yesterday with Hamsheim and Japheth or it gets more tragic.
- 4:19
But this definitely starts to account for their children post flood. Now Genesis Chapter 9 tells us a not so flattering story about this immediate family, but it doesn’t tell us when. But we do get some hints towards the timing. In fact, we’re told that he was a husbandman and that he got drunk on his own wine tells us it had to be years later. How many we can debate.
- 4:45
But you, you don’t wake up, say ah, we’re on dry land, let’s plant a vineyard, I’ll be drunk tomorrow. That’s not how that works. It takes years to cultivate and in the in the law they were supposed to really wait till it was about 7 years before it was useful in harvest. So it’s going to be years and then you don’t get grape one, squeeze it and tomorrow it’s wine.
- 5:08
It takes time. So whatever happens in Genesis 9 was years after the flood. Therefore, chronologically, this story most likely overlaps with what we’re going to see in Genesis Chapter 10. So the purpose of this break in the timeline from Genesis chapter 5 and 10, we were able to piece together a historical record to keep track of how many generations have passed and in some cases, the years that it took. But the one significant story that is embedded in this genealogy that gives us detail should get our attention because anytime something seemingly insignificant and seemingly unnecessary is added to a story in Scripture, that’s the clue to the Bible.
- 5:52
Student is like, all right, why do we need to know that? There’s got to be a reason. So let’s drop down to verse 6. The sons of hymn Kush, Misram foot Canaan, sons of Kush Siba Havilah Sapta, Rhema Saptica, sons of Rhema Sheba D Dan Kush begat Nimrod. He began to be a mighty one in the earth. He was a mighty hunter before the Lord. Wherefore it is said even as Nimrod, the mighty hunter before the Lord.
- 6:21
So this is perhaps 3 generations from Noah, Ham, Kush, Nimrod. Now it’s been suggested it was in the line of Kush and not necessarily his son. The First Chronicles genealogy First Chronicles 1 also notes that Kush begat Nimrod. So I tend to lean that way. But it’s not absolutely necessary. We know it for sure or it would be crystal clear. However, it does give us some insight to the timing. According to Strong’s the son of Kush, this is Ham. Excuse me?
- 6:51
The son of Kush, the grandson of Ham, the great grandson of Noah, is a mighty hunter, established an empire in the area of Babylon, Assyria. So that gives us a timeline to Nimrod. His name in Hebrew means a rebel. Interesting, given the story from here. So we have him as a mighty man in defense of the Lord. He became the standard, excuse me, not defense boy, can you do what you did for Darius or rewind and fix that one Defiance of the Lord in defiance of the Lord and became the standard for cute future king God rulers.
- 7:28
So you might picture someone like Nebuchadnezzar in the story of Daniel, and you’re staying very well within the line of context. So about this guy in the middle of genealogy. Oh, he’s a mighty hunter. And it’s said a couple times that tells us it’s something important. But they don’t just go on to the next guy. We get these three more verses attached to the story of Nimrod. The beginning of his Kingdom was Babel, and Eric and Acat and Kalna and the land of Shinar.
- 7:55
So now we’re getting a little map put together for us. Out of that land went forth Asher and builded Nineveh, the city of Riyaboth and Kayla, and Resin. Between Nineveh and Kayla. The same is a great city. So we’re now being able to plot out some of the cities that were big and growing. And by the time Moses is giving us this account, he’s able to describe some of the things this city these cities had become. And some of them were cities they would have known. And thanks to archaeology, they’re cities you and I could know as well.
- 8:28
So let’s pick this apart a little bit. The word Babel, that word in Hebrew is used 262 times, so it’s not an uncommon word. But only two of them are translated Babel. All the others, 260 others are translated Babylon. So when you and I read it here and in Chapter 11, verse 9, which we’re going to get to in a few minutes, so we read Babel, we should be reading Babylon because that’s what the way this word is translated everywhere else in Scripture. So the beginning of his Kingdom was Babylon, and now we’re taking on a significance that carries its way all the way through Scripture, not as an independent story about a tower they stopped building, but as a united story about a religious movement moving away from God to the glorification of the flesh, which may have started right after the flood but continues to this day.
- 9:26
By using the name Babylon, we were able to connect that dot very clearly in verse 10. All four of those cities are between the Tigris and the Euphrates, modern Iraq. Historical Babylon, verses 11 and 12 gives us four more cities which eventually become greater Nineveh. Kayla is the city where the black obelisk was found along with winged lions and human heads.
- 9:50
So before the genealogy continues, let’s look at a little bit about Kayla. So Kayla, which of which really becomes incorporated into Nineveh over time, Nimrod was the the Nimrod or Kayla was the capital city of the ancient Assyrian Empire. So around 12:50 BC, Shalmanesar, the first king of Assyria, mentions himself as a founder of the city. Great walls were built in the 884 BC range. Later kings ruled in the same area until the latter part of the 8th 8th century when the capital city was moved to Korsabad and then later to Nineveh. This city was eventually abandoned in 612 BC after a serious destruction.
- 10:38
The city itself is about a mile and a quarter square, so it’s not huge. But in this city, they were able to find temples, palaces, the great ziggurat about 140 feet high, and monuments and ruins in the ancient city of Nimrod or Kayla, many of which were removed and brought to the British Museum in the 1800s. So you can go see them if you’d like to go visit your friends in England.
- 11:00
One relic records a feast in the palace with a numbering a total of 63,000 people. So it’s not just a little city, it’s a big city in a mighty city. Nimrod and some of its kings are mentioned in the Bible. The famous city is mentioned. The book of Genesis we just mentioned was located about 20 miles South of ancient Mosul.
- 11:21
So let’s play with the obelisk. This is the black obelisk of Shalmanizer. The third might have seen something like this. If if you’ve ever been in Southern California around the time of the County Fair, we have a presentation that’s been put together by brothers and sisters over many years that that part of this presentation has a replica of that obelisk. You recognize it, don’t you, Darius? Anybody else recognize it?
- 11:50
All right, I got so the three of us can talk about it like we know something they don’t. All right, Now, what makes this obelisk interesting is not just that we have one. OK, that’s cute. But why do we have one? Well, there’s a reason this was discovered in 1846 while being excavated. So it’s it’s something that’s recent, fairly recent 180 years from today roughly.
- 12:13
And it goes back to describe some things on it about the military campaigns of the Assyrians. Let’s see, let’s read a couple things. I don’t want to read this whole thing. Military campaigns of 31 years and the tribute they exacted from their neighbors, including camels, monkeys, an elephant, a rhino. Because the Assyrian kings often collected exotic animals and plants as an expression of their power. Well, there are five scenes of tribute. And if you, I don’t know if you can see them segment by 5, you can’t trust me, Trust us.
- 12:49
Five scenes attribute and they lit they, the story goes around all four sides. So on these four panels around the face of the obelisk, we have a line in cuneiform explaining what the pictures are showing. And you can probably see the one in the top left corner. You can. That’s the one we’re going to focus on right now.
- 13:10
That is Jihu, son of Armory of ancient northern Israel. And so let’s see the the second register from the top includes the earliest surviving picture of an Israelite. That’s Jehu, the king who’s being brought down to bow down and send his tribute. Ahab, the son of Armory, king of Israel, lost his life in a battle a few years previously, fighting against the king of Damascus at Ramoth.
- 13:34
Gilead. First Kings, chapter 22. The second son, Joram, was succeeded by Jihu, A usurper, who broke the alliances with Phoenicia and Judah and submitted to Assyria. The caption above, written in Assyrian cuneiform, can be translated and this is what it says on the obelisk. The tribute of Jihu, Jihu son of Armory. I received from him silver, gold, a golden bowl, a golden vase with a painted bottom, golden tumblers, golden buckets, tin, a staff for a king, and Spears. So you have the first picture of an Israelite outside of the Scripture found in history, which gives us some significance because knowing the foundation of God’s Word and His purpose to draw to people for His name.
- 14:19
Focusing first on the Jew and then to the Gentile, we hone in onto the next story after the Tower of Babel to Abraham to get there. We have very strong Hebrew roots. Now here we have a connection going back to the roots of Babylon. What is going to stand up against the Hebrew Messiah when it comes time for his return? So that’s what makes it relevant to us today. Verse 9 of Chapter 11, the second time the word Babylon is translated Babel.
- 14:58
Therefore the name of it is called Babel, because the Lord did their confound the language of all the earth, and from thence did the Lord scatter them abroad upon all the earth. So who began this Kingdom in battle by building Babel? Nimrod 3 generations from Noah. Now, the word Babel, we know that means confusion. And by the end of this class we will see that the confusion is not only of language and of name, because we wanted to build a city and a name, but also of religious and political confusion as well.
- 15:29
So we’re going to hold that thought. We’re going to see embedded not just language and the name of the flesh, but the foundation by which political and religious confusion have been permeated through the world from that time right after the flood, even to our very day. Now the end of Genesis 11 gives us a genealogy of Shem with years to connect the dots from Noah to Abraham.
- 15:56
So we’re able to put some directional information in that. Let’s look at verse 10. These are the generations of Shem. Shem was 100 years old and begat our faxed 2 years after the flood. OK, so two years after the flood. Then we have at verse 12 our fax and live 5 and 30 years and begat Sayla, and at verse 14 say live 30 years and we got Eber.
- 16:19
So if Sayla was 3 generations from Noah in Shem’s life timeline, Shen’s family line, he was old. He was old enough and established enough to have children at age 30. So now we have 2 + 35 + 30, giving us a total of 67 years after the flood. So it’s not a long, it’s not way down the road now this is next door. We have a problem.
- 16:50
Here we are 67 years later, 3 generations after the flood and this God king changer of the world, political language, religious confusion is already springing route that will extend now for over 4000 years from the time of his building. That’s astounding. I said that a word a lot. My wife has told me I’ve I’ve been astounded a lot.
- 17:15
Hopefully you’ve been somewhat astounded with me. I’m going to try to use a new word. That’s amazing. All right. Verse 14. Sailor lived 30 years begat Eber. Sailor lived after begat Eber 403 years and begat sons and daughters. So Sailor lived 433 years total. Noah lived after the flood, 350 years, which means Noah would have been alive most of the time this guy was alive, probably most of the time Nimrod was alive. So Noah got to see God wipe the slate clean for destruction, violence, and confusion, and he lived long enough to see it go right back to the mess it was when God cleaned it out. So when we look at the world around us today and we’re just, we find ourselves somewhat dissatisfied with the things we see in the world and maybe how we see them in the ecclesia. Recognize this is not new territory for God and his people.
- 18:07
We are living the days of Noah now. Somewhere in Genesis 9, we put this story. So that’s why it meant, that’s why we’ve bothered to take this time out. We can look at building the towers and event going on in the world around the family at approximately the same time. And you can imagine the thinking of the family, all the years they spent building a boat to save their family. And what was that, 120?
- 18:30
And here we are in about half the time there’s a tower going up. Wow, the flesh is amazing, isn’t it? Well, the rest of this class is going to be dedicated to. OK, so why do we care? All right, Genesis Chapter 11, verse 1 and 2, the whole earth was of one language. One speech came to pass when they journeyed from the east. They found a plane in the land of Shinar and they dwelt there. So we have unity, as we will see, and we’re seeing a united representation of the flesh against God. The RSV has it this way.
- 18:59
Now, the whole earth had one language and few words. I highlight that they didn’t say much but at least they understood each other. Now what we have here in Shinar is we have a place from Ararat going back towards Eden which was the center of the worship in the pre flood era. We get that back from Genesis chapter 4 Shinar.
- 19:22
It appears in the next in the text. A few interesting places, one that’s probably in your heads already, is Daniel chapter 1. The Lord gave Jehoiakim, the king of Judah, into his hand and some of the vessels of the House of his God, and brought them to the land of Shinar, the House of his God, and placed them vessels in the treasury of his God.
- 19:45
And of course we recognize this as the beginning of the captivity of Babylon, but that captivity’s roots starts back in the building of the Tower of Babel. This is a wave of religious and political confusion. That started in Daniel and continues through the apocalypse much later. So we’re going to see the development of this becoming not just a language and a people with a common name, but they’ve got a system, an education system where they take out the brightest and best from the people. They take a cap in captivity.
- 20:24
They leave the ones they’re not interested in behind the the figs that are allowed to rot in the land. And they take all these younger men and try to convert them into their own thinking, both educationally and, and from a religious standpoint. Sounds anything like the education system in our land today. Oh, nothing like it. It’s all coincidental.
- 20:47
Now, Daniel would be a topic for another day. But these stories are connected in a number of ways. I’d like to look on one of them and then we’ll move along. We’ve looked at this verse a couple times this week. Three men, Noah, Daniel and Job were in it and they would deliver but their own souls by their righteousness saying saith the Lord God. We know it’s repeated verse 20, religious Hebrew exclamation point.
- 21:09
We focused a little on Job in the exhortation. We’ve touched on Noah during our studies. I want to just look at Daniel for a moment. Now, Ezekiel would have been taken captive seven years after Daniel was. So there are over 50 miles away. There’s no telephone or cell, cell phone coverage. Can’t check out what’s on CNN news, Send him an e-mail.
- 21:29
How’s it going, buddy? This, these things didn’t happen. He’s 50 miles away and seven years behind before they’re actually in the same proximity again. So when Ezekiel writes this, what a profound impact Daniel would have made on him. Daniel would have only been about 30 when Ezekiel wrote that. So we’re not talking about the old man Daniel with such a great resume.
- 21:55
We’re talking about a young man, a work in progress in a foreign land, serving a Pagan king, risking his life every day for loving his God. That’s amazing. Compare that to us, when we look around and we see other people in the meeting, oftentimes the one we are looking to for strength and encouragement is not the one that’s younger than us. Think about that.
- 22:19
This is a. 30 year old brother with no family to gauge him by, but only acts of faith and service to the meeting. And he’s being looked on. And listed in Rare Air by Inspiration. As an example for the. Whole world at age 30. This leads to constant prayer and labor. All three of them had to do this in their ecclesia. Both were.
- 22:43
Both of these, Noah and Job, including Daniel now were examples to their ecclesial families of self sacrifice and dedication and they looked ridiculous doing so. As we mentioned with Noah and his boat in the desert, Job defending himself amongst his brethren and both of them lost families in a catastrophic way. By the judgement of God both will be in the Kingdom. Then we look at Daniel, who was taken by God from his home, put into another Kingdom, and made so we couldn’t have a family of his own, so he adopted gods.
- 23:13
What a wonderful tribute of a young man in the truth. Well, we have another hidden reference to Shinar, so I’m going to pretend to get back on topic now. A hidden reference to Shinar. This one’s found in Joshua 7, Joshua 7, verse 21. When I saw. Among the spoils, A goodly Babylonish garment.
- 23:38
That’s the word translated shinar that we’ve seen back in Genesis 11 and in Daniel chapter 1. In fact, the. RSV has it here, a garment from Shinar in their text, 200 shekels of silver, wedge of gold, blah blah blah. They have a lot of stuff. The stoning of the family of Aiken was the result of this confusion. So this.
- 24:01
Confusion that draws away the people of God to the world politically and religiously has roots now not just in captivity but in the establishment and conquest of the land. Genesis 11. Verse 3, they said one to another go to let us make brick and burn them thoroughly that they had brick for stone and slime had they for mortar.
- 24:26
So we have cooperation and communication. Verse one, not a lot of words, but they work together. OK, if only they could take that level of cooperation for building the things of God. This story is so much different, but human beings, what we are, we are naturally inclined to serve our self and our own interest.
- 24:43
And the more of us we get together that go, hey, this is a good idea, let’s do it for our name. And you can see why that camp is so much more appealing than the let’s walk away from what makes sense in our eyes and follow after the path of our father. Let’s look a little closer at this. The slime or bitumen you might say, is used in making asphalt. Those characteristics are useful. It softens when it gets heated.
- 25:07
It becomes moldable, kind of like warm tar, sticky like glue or a warm tar, and it’s water resistant. Does that not adequately describe the condition of humanity then and now? It can be molded in the image of itself. It sticks to us. When we get contaminated by the thoughts of the world and it’s kind of water resistant, it’s it’s not able to let the word of God penetrate in a. Little scary when you think.
- 25:37
About it, isn’t it? Softens under. Social pressure then molds into a uniform worldly model, adhering to each other in sin by resisting the water of life.
- 25:51
Wow. All right. Isaiah 65 people that provoke me to anger continually to my face that sank, sacrifice it in gardens and burns incense upon altars of brick. Now we know that’s not what you’re supposed to do. I’m not focusing on that. I’m just making a reference to the history of brick in Israel.
- 26:10
This might seem a little off topic, but verse one of Isaiah 65 says a nation that was not called by my name, and in verse 10 it says the valley of Acor. So we are not off topic here. This National History of brick that moved away from the things of the Father to the point where they were even burning incense on altars to God, that would have been an abomination to the Father by his own design. Exodus.
- 26:40
Five gives us their National History. We know this story. Let us go and sacrifice to the Lord. Therefore, no straw will be given to you. We need. To take time to remember our father. Oh, you’re idol. No straw for you, Tally. Yeah, you can still make the bricks. So the concept of making bricks comes very, very much so to the roots of Israel and also, not by coincidence, roots of Pagan influence on their thinking. We.
- 27:16
Have the repeat. References back to a time where the people of God went their own way. False religion was the result. We can trace back every single Christian myth found in doctrine today to Babylonian mythology and Egyptian mythology, with nice little segways through Greece and Rome if you want them. But they all have their roots in the myths of Egypt and Babylon.
- 27:39
We’ll get more of that soon. Much of it has been intertwined. The exact opposite of first Peter two and four, to whom coming as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God and precious, you also, as lively stones are built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to OfferUp spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God. By Jesus Christ, cooperation and. Communication is not the issue.
- 28:08
The question is what are we building? Are we building it to our name? Are we building it as the House of God, as lively stones? Hebrews 11 great example. We’ve looked at a number of times, but we’ll just use the comment about Abraham that he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God.
- 28:30
Influence on the Babylonian confusion of his day repelled him and brought him closer to the Father. Not coincidentally, the next story in the Genesis account. All right, let us build a city and a tower. I love how they say, go to. It’s like that’s how we talk to each other. Go to. Let us go to class. No, whatever.
- 28:51
Let’s build a city and a tower whose top may reach the heaven, and make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad from the face of the whole earth. Now there’s always. A hint that’s supposed to get your attention. So if the Word of God has pricked your heart at all, you can go. That doesn’t sound right.
- 29:06
And here it is. Let us build a tower and make us a name. That word name? Shem. Should have got their attention. The people of the name noting a religious purpose, they want one that reaches the air, and there’s all kinds of theories as to why. Hey, the higher up we go, the less likely we are to be dead in the flood.
- 29:27
Well, if it went up 70 or 22 feet higher than the tallest mountain they could see, I don’t think this building was ever going to get there. But nonetheless, that’s one of the theories that we could stop going apart, which they were told to go out and replenish. Well, as long as we build a family and then our kids go out and they build and our we can start replenishing the earth. But if we say, hey, stop this replenishment stuff, let’s do it our way and build a city in a tower, they’re defying the laws of God to their own intent and purpose. We can compare that to prior to the flood, Genesis chapter 4, verse 17.
- 30:01
In the line of Cain, we have Cain to his wife. She conceived bear Enoch. So this is not the good Enoch. This is the bad Enoch. He builded a city and called the name of the city after the name of his son Enoch, a city with a name. There’s that word shem again.
- 30:16
So we’re going right back to the root of the sons of God that saw the daughters of men in the line of Cain is rearing its ugly head. And here’s the problem. It wasn’t the line of Cain. Now it’s the line of Noah. Let’s compare that to Revelation 17. The woman which thou sawest is that great city which reigneth over the kings of the earth. And after these things, I saw another Angel come down from heaven, having great power in the earth, was lighted by his glory.
- 30:44
He cried mighty with a strong voice, saying Babylon the Great is fallen, is fallen, has become the habitation of devils and the hold of every foul spirit, a cage of every unclean and hateful bird. So we’re able to connect the dots from Genesis chapter 4 now to the last couple chapters of Revelation. Tying Babylon in the Babylon of Revelation to the Catholic Church is a very important connection, and it’s probably one of the most important in this topic. So we’re going to spend a little time on that now. Should we focus on fish on Fridays? Say I want you to look.
- 31:24
So to my left, well, that used to be a Pope, but the pictures cool, so we keep it and focus on the right. That’s a rendition of a priest of Dagon. Now we have the fish hat on the Dagon priest. Notice the open mouth? Notice the other. Guy, the new Dagon priest. Open fish on.
- 31:46
Mouth, if you look at from the top, there’s a skullcaps. You actually have the eye of Horus. If you want to play with Egypt while we’re playing with Babylon, you can do that. Egypt was not the only Pagan myth generator. So the fish God, the priest of Dagon gives us an example that was incorporated into the things of Rome. Now Nimrod and his wife Semiramis established a high order of priests for the God Janus. And you go, well, God Janus, well, that’s the the the God of doors and hinges.
- 32:19
Well, that seems kind of fun. Let’s have one of those. Someone prayed to. Janus, that’s a squeaky one. Well, it’s kind of interesting we hear that we go, this doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. Oh, but when we start thinking in terms of the context of the one door that they were supposed to have on the Ark, oh, it brings a lot more religious connotation. Well, what does that have to do with the Catholic Church? Well, these priests wore red, ultimately developed the Roman Catholic Cardinals.
- 32:50
The word cardo in Latin means hinge. Well, let’s see here. The lower order of priests that tended the sacrificial fires wore black roads. They later emerged in Judah as the Chairmarims. That’s Zephaniah one and four. They are duplicated in the black robes of the priest of the Catholic Church. Today. If you want to study of Zephaniah, there’s an awful lot more revealing in this regard.
- 33:17
And it’s a great transition if you’re connecting the things of early Genesis to the things of Revelation. But that would be another study altogether, the part we want to focus on today. Zephaniah warns of impending judgment on Judah, but his vision sweeps on to the return of Christ to judge the world in the great day of Yahweh.
- 33:36
He speaks of the impending judgment on, get it, the nation’s with emphasis on Kush or Babylon and Assyria, as far as we’ve seen in the language of the Apocalypse. And he concludes his. Message was the turning of a peoples why to a pure language and the worship of Yahweh. Zephaniah is God’s answer to Genesis Chapter 11.
- 34:04
The head of these. At the head of these and is Israel redeemed from their dispersion, brought into harmony with their God, therefore putting down ultimately nimrods rebellion and utterly reversing the system of political and religious error that he introduced. You want one more before we move on? It doesn’t matter if you do or not, it’s already on my slide.
- 34:24
Here is an artist. Rendition of the beast as described in Revelation 17, the woman representing the apostate church, or the people riding on the Roman beast called Babylon. From a religious and political standpoint, these things are all started in the early parts of Genesis. So while we’re on the political topic, what does this class have to do with the European Union and the United Nations?
- 34:49
Well, looky there. Notice the little box in the bottom right corner? Many tongues, one voice. What do you think they got that from? That’s a European. Union poster Notice on the tower being built there’s a crane. Why is that? Because they’re picking up where they left off. The work was. Incomplete. And now we’re going to keep building.
- 35:21
I’m sure it wasn’t intentionally putting us back into Babylon, but that’s exactly where our mind should go. This is from Taken. From the EU website, the 12 stars are a circle symbolizing the ideals of unity, solidarity and harmony amongst the peoples of Europe. Fact. The EU motto is united in diversity. It signifies how Europeans have come together. I’m just quoting this now in the form of the EU. To work for peace and prosperity while at the same time being enriched by the continents, many cultures, traditions and languages.
- 35:54
A people united to build a city and a name. This is Strasbourg. France, the official seat of the European Parliament. Any ideas on where that design came from? What a coincidence. Just in case you thought the poster was only joking. Now, we could add coins and stamps, but I think the point is made. The connection to the Europe of today and back to the foundation of the Babylonian Empire is on purpose and it’s evidence. And it may not be intentional by those making these posters, but our God knows exactly what they’re doing. It has left you and I clues that He is ultimately in charge. And all these things are there so that when we see them, see them, we can get excited that there is a plan and it culminates in glory.
- 36:43
Today may not be as much glory as we wish, but tomorrow will be glorious if we can keep our eye on the prize. Here’s one more. Just to keep. Everyone else in the loop, this is the United Nations University of Tokyo in Japan. The world. Is uniting against the power of God, and we can trace that back to Babel. What we see in today’s news is merely A precursor, precursor to the return of our Lord.
- 37:10
So let’s go back to Genesis to finish the scriptural portion. Verse 5 of Genesis 11, the Lord came down to see the city and the tower and the children with the men and build. So this is the angels we see from verse 7, the divine inspection similar to what we saw in Genesis chapter 6.
- 37:25
They are the tool used to manifest God here. And the Lord said, Behold. The people is 1, they have one language and this they will do, and now nothing will be restrained into them which they have imagined to do. Unity for evil. Standing up against God. Chapter 821 reference the imagination of the evil heart puts us back in line the conditions of humanity did not change after the flood it’s. Probably a good time to.
- 37:53
Quote Zephaniah Zephaniah chapter 3, verse 9. For then will I turn the people a pure language, that they may call upon the name of Yahweh, and serve Him with one consent. The reversal of Babylonian confusion. Instead of united of as the flesh against the Father, it culminates in the glory of the Father, uniting one language, one name to serve Him in unity. Nice tie to 1st.
- 38:18
Corinthians one. Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same thing. There be no division, division amongst you, that you be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment. We can see this message. Throughout the New Testament, the concept of unity for the glory of God being promoted and exhorted upon. It’s on us to make sure our hearts and minds are focused on the things of God and looking toward the glory of the Father, that we might dwell with the Father and the Son forever as we work together walking towards the Kingdom. Because as we put that as our perspective, it makes any other challenges that might come secondary. Sure, we’ve got to work through differences, and some differences are bigger than others. I’m not discounting that, but if our perspective is not on the now, but on the future glory we want to be a part of, it makes it easier to look past the trials of today and look forward to the glory of tomorrow.
- 39:18
That’s why it’s such a common theme in Scripture. That’s why it’s so important that we don’t become fractured and go our separate ways, trying to come back together as they did in Babel for their own sake, but rather stay focused on the things of God. Stay focused on the name of God so that we might be found without division, perfectly joined together as the body is designed.
- 39:42
Genesis. 11:00 and 7:00 the angels let us go down, confound the language. They may not understand one another’s speech. So this is interesting what we sometimes this is one of those practical things that actually makes a little bit of sense if we thought stop and think about it. But how well do you think you and I would do in a foreign land?
- 39:59
Now, if you if you speak a lot of languages, fine, cool. I’m proud of you. Pick one you don’t speak, go there for a minute. You and I moved to, I don’t know, pick a place for Dennis to be French. I’ll be I’ll be in France. Now, the odds of me getting along well in anything beyond major cities are pretty low because anything that’s not on a menu, I’m in trouble.
- 40:22
And my best chance on the menu is point. And no matter how. Long I’m there, I’ll never be French, but that’s a different story. Now here’s the point. If I really did get planted in the middle of France, what’s likely the first thing I’m going to do? Find somebody else. That speaks English so I can have a conversation.
- 40:45
It might be good to learn French too, but it’s going to be pretty elementary for a long time. My best bet is to be able to work together somebody who can understand me. Which is why it’s so interesting that our God chose to. Let’s just change the language, fix it up, because now they’re going to have to find I can talk to this guy.
- 41:01
Well, let’s go this way. And now you force them to do what God told him to do in the 1st place. It’s interesting how God always gets his way. See, when you design A planet, you get to make the rules. They didn’t want to follow the rules. OK, we’ll shake it up a little bit.
- 41:13
Now follow them anyways, and that’s eventually what happens. So we put this in perspective. The angels did something very simple. They made him do what God told him to do in the 1st place. Because God has a plan, and His plan is going to happen. Whether or not they or you or I or anybody sees fit to follow it, it’s going to work.
- 41:30
Well, that’s how. Prophecy works because our God cannot give us prophecy if He doesn’t know how it’s going to end in the 1st place. But since He knows, look, I know where this is going to end. There’s going to be things along the way that happened, but here’s how it’s going to end.
- 41:44
So therefore he can have the angels help. Course correct as we go. Genesis 11 and 8. The Lord scattered them abroad from then to the face of the earth that they left off to build the city. They left it incomplete. But the Kingdom? Of men has been growing since, and Babylon is built and becomes a head of gold. And we picture Daniel’s image standing up, held together by feet of partly iron, partly clay, and destroyed not by a brick, by a stone made without hands. See, the plan that was being confused by the population was never lost sight of by God.
- 42:23
And He knew exactly where they were going and exactly how He was going to get there. Therefore they called the name Babel, because the Lord did confound the language of the earth. And from thence the Lord scattered them abroad, all the face of the earth. The confusion that was created, which by the way, is the confusion that’s always created when we set aside the things of God and start doing what man thinks.
- 42:48
The confusion in the world today is largely result of a planet that’s decided the things of God are outdated. And so they’ve come. Up with things that are more modern and sensible and it’s all very confusing. We’ve got in this country there are kids that at 12 years old, can I decide whether they want to be identified as a boy or a girl? Tell me that’s not.
- 43:11
Confusion. Is not 12. About the time when your life is as confusing it’s ever going to be hormonally. Oh great, we wouldn’t trust you to drive. We certainly don’t want you to drink. Won’t even let you babysit another child on your own. We’re really not sure you can actually dress yourself before you leave.
- 43:29
But go ahead and decide if you want to be a boy or a girl. That’s not immaterial decision that we’ll go ahead and let you have your 12 year old mind at. That’s the world. We live in. That’s the world it’s coming to. When would anyone ever want so when that doesn’t make sense.
- 43:45
Why would anyone ever want to go back to a state that God so clearly disapproved of? Round one, the flood. Round two, change the language, make them go and. Yet we live in a. World that’s going right back to the roots of political and religious confusion that messed up the world in the 1st place. Now think of it for a moment in the for the eyes of the Father. He looks at it.
- 44:10
And you almost can picture him going, I mean, I knew it was going to happen. But you know, again, really, I mean, it’s not like he’s surprised by it, but Can you imagine from his perspective thinking, wow, that’s what makes this remnant so precious because most of them just want to do whatever it is that I tell him not to do.
- 44:26
But that handful that’s interested in learning my way and going my way, boy, I want to spend the rest of eternity with them, calling out of people for His name. We Live Today in a world where human nature is self-serving and self promoted everywhere we look. The world wants to build on the empires of the past that rejected the governing love of God and replaced it with their own brand of worship, where the creature has become more important than the Creator. We must see all events in the world as a precursor to our Lord’s return and the establishment of His Kingdom for His name, one that will never be destroyed. The kingdoms of.
- 45:04
This world are become the kingdoms of our Lord and of His Christ, and He shall reign forever and ever.
