Welcome to good Christophian talks. Thank you for. Joining us this week. On this podcast, we select one talk a week to help us get the Bible in our Daily News feed. Each week we post a talk that we previewed from suggestions sent in by listeners from around the world. Then we record a short intro beforehand as a personalized recommendation to you on why we are sharing the talk. And now let’s talk more about this week’s talk. Hello everyone, this is brother Simon. This week’s talk is a short ex or done by a brother Kim Carroll at the Semi Hills Ecclesia to the title Adoption. He starts off with a touching and personal story about how he was adopted at only a few days old, which I found to be a quite a moving story.

  2. 0:54

Then he goes through some examples of adoption in the Bible and guess the point how we all have the opportunity to be adopted into God’s great family and heirs to the promises and through faith we are sons and daughters of God. So here is Brother Kim Carroll on adoption. Good morning. After my mother passed away many years ago, I took many of the files that she had at home with back home with me and I didn’t look at them for several years.

  3. 1:30

Eventually I looked through them and found some things that I would be willing to bet that no one else in this room has. That was the application my parents filled out so that they could adopt me showed a lot of information about them. My father was an insurance agent making $5000 a year.

  4. 2:01

They had $300 in their bank account. They were paying $59 a month for rent for their apartment. Gives a time capsule of the history of my family at that time, names of their parents and grandparents, the state of their health or why they died. A pretty thorough examination of my folks background. They started this process more than a year before I was born and they signed a contract at the end of the process. Adoption, according to the dictionary, is to take and raise the child of others as one’s own. I was adopted when I was only a few days old. Many years ago.

  5. 3:02

It was not usual to tell a child that they’d been adopted. My parents did tell me, however, beginning when I was very little. They told me a story.

  6. 3:19

It goes Once Upon a time there was a farmer and his wife. They planted seed in the ground, but then they went away. Another farmer and his wife came along and watched the seed. They tended it and took care of it. Eventually that seed grew into a beautiful flower. And that beautiful flower is you.

  7. 3:51

You all may have some difficulty in picturing me is a beautiful flower, but I tell you the resemblance was much stronger when I was only three or four years old.

  8. 4:07

I was also proud. I also proudly told anyone who would listen that I was adopted. Now. After I began reading the word, I noticed a story that sounded familiar in a way. The parable is sword that was read this morning in Mark 4/3 through 20. The seed that falls on the good soil still must be cared for.

  9. 4:38

The one who tends the garden spreads the word. There are some stories about adoption in the Bible, but that word never appears in the Old Testament.

  10. 4:58

Exodus chapter 2 tells the story of Moses. Pharaoh has ordered that every boy born to the Hebrews must be killed. A Levite woman devises A scheme to save her newborn son. She puts him in a basket and sets him afloat in the Nile. Let’s look at Exodus chapter 2, starting at verse one. Now a man from the House of Levi went and took his wife as his wife, a Levite woman.

  11. 5:37

The woman conceived and bore a son, and when she saw that he was a fine child, she hit him three months. When she could hide him no longer, she took for him, took for him a basket made of bulrushes and daubed it with bitumen and pitch. She put the child in it and placed it among the reeds in the riverbank, and his sister stood at a distance to know what would be done to him.

  12. 6:06

Now the daughter of Pharaoh came down to bathe at the river while her young women walked beside the river. She saw the basket among the reeds and sent her servant woman and she took it. When she opened it, she saw the child and behold, the baby was crying. She took pity on him and said, This is one of the Hebrews children. Then his sister said to Pharaoh’s daughter, Shall I go and call you a nurse from the Hebrew women to nurse the child for you?

  13. 6:42

And Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, Go. So the girl went and called the child’s mother. And Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, Take this child away and nurse him for me, and I will give you your wages. So the woman took the child and nursed him. When the child grew older, she brought him to Pharaoh’s daughter and he became her son. She named him Moses because she said, I drew him out of the water.

  14. 7:19

Moses survives and prospers and becomes the deliverer of his people. None of this would have been possible if God had not allowed him to be adopted by Pharaoh’s daughter. Elijah also adopted children. Two different instances are related in Second Kings chapter 4 about Elijah helping to protect children. In the beginning of the chapter, we learn about a widow with two sons who are about to be taken as slaves to pay the widow’s creditor. Elisha helps her with a miracle and saves the sons from slavery. Elisha, in effect, adopted these sons of the widow and helped to care for them.

  15. 8:17

In the second instance, the Shunamite woman Elijah. Elijah asks God to reward her faithfulness with a son. The son is born but soon falls ill and dies.

  16. 8:35

Elijah sends his servant Gehazi to the boy, but he’s unable to raise him. Then Elijah comes to the house in Second Kings 4, starting at verse 32.

  17. 8:51

When Elijah came into the house, he saw the child lying dead on his bed. So he went in and shut the door behind the two of them and prayed to the Lord. Then he went up and lay on the child, putting his mouth on his mouth, his eyes on his eyes, and his hands on his hands.

  18. 9:12

And as he stretched himself upon him, the flesh of the child became warm. Then he got up again and walked once back and forth in the house and went up and stretch himself upon him. The child sneezed 7 times and the child opens his opened his eyes. Then he summoned Gehazi and said call this Shunamite.

  19. 9:39

So he called her and when he she came to him, he said, pick up your son. She came and fell at his feet, bowing to the ground. Then she picked up her son and went out. Elijah cared for these children as if they were his own. Now we come to the most famous adopted child in all history. Our Lord and Savior Jesus was adopted. He was born of Mary in the Holy Spirit. But Joseph is his father that adopts him, cares for him, flees to Egypt to protect him.

  20. 10:34

In Matthew 2, starting at verse 13, it says Now when they had departed, behold, an Angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, rise, take the child and his mother and flee to Egypt, and remain there until I tell you. For Herod is about to search for the child to destroy him.

  21. 10:59

And he rose and took the child and his mother by night and departed to Egypt, and remained there until the death of Herod. This was to fill what the fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet out of Egypt. I will call my son later. Joseph takes him to Jerusalem to present him at the temple.

  22. 11:31

In Luke chapter 2, starting at verse 22 it says. And when the time came for their purification, according to the law of Moses, they brought him up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord. As it is written in the law of the Lord, every male who first opens the womb shall be called holy to the Lord, and to offer a sacrifice according to what it is said in the law of the Lord. A pair of turtle doves or two young pigeons. Each year he and Mary take him to the temple for the Passover and help him to grow in wisdom and stature. Now there’s another definition of adoption, and that is to take or receive a new kind of relationship and to take on or act in accordance with an attitude. Let’s think about us.

  23. 12:45

Turn to Romans 4, starting at verse 16. That is why it depends on faith in order that the promise may rest on grace and be guaranteed to all his offspring, not only to the adherent of the law, but also to the One who shares the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all.

  24. 13:19

As it is written, I have made you the father of many nations in the presence of the God in whom he believed, who gives life to the dead and calls into existence the things that do not exist in hope. He believed against hope that he should become the father of many nations, as he had been told.

  25. 13:48

So shall your offspring be all of us have the opportunity to be adopted in the God’s family. We should remember to thank God continually that we’ve been shown the way to be adopted into his family so we may be heirs to the promise.

  26. 14:19

In Galatians 3, starting at verse 26, it says, For in Christ Jesus you are all sons of God through faith. For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free. There is no male or female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus, and if you are Christ then you are Abraham’s offspring, heirs according to the promise.

  27. 15:08

I mean that the heir, as long as he is a child, is no different from a slave, though he is the owner of everything, but he is under guardians and managers until the date set by his father. In the same way, we also, when we were children, were enslaved to the elementary principles of the world. But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons. And because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts crying, ABBA Father, so you are no longer a slave but a son, and if a son then an heir through God. Now our method of adoption is revealed in Acts chapter 2 starting at verse 37.

  28. 16:34

Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles Brothers, shall what shall we do? And Peter said to them, Repent and be baptized everyone of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is for you and for your children, and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to Himself.

  29. 17:16

And with many other words he bore witness and continued to exhort them, saying, Save yourselves from this crooked generation. So those who received His word were baptized, and they were added that day about 3000 souls.

  30. 17:43

So now we’re going to turn to the memorial table to remember the sacrifice that that adopted son made for us, our brother, our Savior. And I congratulate you, who have been baptized, on being able to join me in proudly saying I am a doctor. Thank you for listening to the good Chris Adelphian Talks podcast.
