Welcome to good for selfie and talks. I’m Levi and I’m Chris and I’m Brian, thank you for joining us this week. On this podcast, we select one taco week to help us get the Bible in our daily news feed. We post a new episode of the start of each week with a short intro before. Hand to kind of set the stage for the talk. You’re about to listen to and now let’s talk more about this week’s.

  2. 0:35

Talk for this week’s talk. We’re listening to an expectation that was given at the end of January and 2023 by Brother, Nick Harden at the San Francisco Peninsula. Ecclesia, brother, Nick is looking at the passages in Romans, 5 and Hebrews 11, where were talking about the men and women of faith that are listed in Hebrews live and where they did these things by faith and the title of his expectation is by faith, insert your name here and he’s just looking at the examples that we have through these different Bible characters of what they did and what was ascribed to them by faith specifically, he looks at a couple different characters where you could list a lot of Things that were what they’re known for.

  3. 1:33

But it’s interesting. What they were known for enlisted for in that chapter in Hebrews 11. So it’s just a really good reminder and a good review of what it should be for us. And asks us, the question, what would be listed for us if we said by faith insert your name here? Did the following.

  4. 1:53

So I found to be a really good encouraging exhortation. Just a good reminder of making sure that our faith is governing everything that we do. You and that our actions are being made by said Faith. So I hope that you enjoy this excitation and with that I will turn it over to brother, Nick Harden for his extrication by faith, insert your name here.

  5. 2:15

So this morning the excitation I want to think about Joseph and and think about by by faith and insert your name here. So that name here again, we’ll get to that as the Thing a couple of weeks ago we had an excellent. My brother Canaan, who talked about Joseph and many parts of Joseph lot but Joseph slight. Now one of the one of the common things we think about from Joseph’s life are what is the first thing that comes to your mind when you think of Joseph?

  6. 2:51

It’s a question. Kyle has yeah, colors. The coat of many colors guy. Suffered much. Also, same thing suffering. Here, Jackson. They’ve been Glide. Okay.

  7. 3:09

So it’s all the things I’ve been doing all his dreams. Like, you know, there were many dreams, the Jodeci had and and work through in his life from when he was young and having the, she’s buried down and his father and son in the moon, the stars bowing down to his to hear, Matt, and Pharaoh’s dreams. So our dreams, the Pharaoh had that, and the dreams of the service, the Butler, and the baker yet so dreams. Yeah, well he think of you being sold into Egypt and things like that placed in a pit and left their hated by his brothers. Okay.

  8. 3:44

In the coat of many colors, jealous of his many things we think of, when we think of Joseph. But we don’t necessarily think about his bones and his Remains The Mummy of Joseph. As brother did talked about that, that empty coffin in Egypt. That was sort of left there. But when we come to Hebrews, Chapter 11, we’ll just go there if that’s all right.

  9. 4:09

Hebrews 11 verse 20 cheer says By faith Joseph, when he died made mention of the departing of the children of Israel and gave commandment concerning his bones. All right, so over all the things in his life, all the acts of faith, all the different things. The Commandment about his Bowman’s was something that was chosen for this chapter in in Hebrews, you know, the chapter where we speak about a lot of acts of faith.

  10. 4:45

Those. And so, we’ll come back to thinking about, why? That specific thing was chosen about Joseph’s life in a bit but let’s go over to the Genesis and chapter 50 there where we’re at where it happens and thanks. Seth breeding. That’s so well.

  11. 5:12

Okay, so Genesis 50 ride down there. Second, last verse, Chuck, verse 25 and Joseph sold, and it’s about to die. And so, he calls his brothers and said, as and Joseph, took it over for the children of Israel saying. God will surely. Visit you? And ye, and ye shall carry up my bones from hence. And that’s where he His getting it from well and Joseph’s bones. Be carried up from heads.

  12. 5:48

And so where did he get that from where did chased wedding is? Joseph telling his own prophecy here saying that, you know, your leave Egypt, some staged, take my bones with you. Is that what? What he was doing there. If we, if we go back to Chapters back to the chapter, 20 in here, sorry, 48.

  13. 6:12

And we see at the end of Jacob’s life, where he just finished blessing East, sorry, T frame, and Manasseh. And if we look at verse 21, we see Jacob. Also talking about the leaving the land there that says a verse 21 Jezus, 248. And Israel said unto Joseph behold. I die. But God shall be with you and bring you again into the land of your buttons. So it wasn’t Joseph side here though, going to leave. Jacob also was able to tell him that you’re now in Egypt but you will weave Egypt as well and if I yeah, I To think that Josephus, my was actually even further back with his, to be his great, grandfather Abraham.

  14. 7:12

And if we on have a look at Genesis chapter 15, where this is mentioned to Abraham, even. So Jess is 15 verse 30. I’m sorry. Girls. 13. And he said, unto Abram know this of a surety that thy seed shall be a stranger in the let in our land. That is not theirs and Shall Serve them and they shall be afflicted of them 400 years. And also the nation whom they serve, they Shall Serve show will be, will I judge and afterwards they shall come out with great substance and shall go unto thy fathers in peace and thou shalt be buried to good old age. So here, there’s even more detail about it in here that the time key Period Abraham’s given a time period of 400 years there that they would be afflicted and we could possibly readings about that.

  15. 8:12

He was speaking of this time where they were in in Egypt. And we’ll come back to the shop because there’s some interesting stuff further up in Genesis 15 on the sort of Link here and troponin time I exhort together but if we if we come back to Joseph and we think about Joseph is about to die.

  16. 8:38

Why didn’t he just do what Jacob did. Ya do up there in bury me? No shit sherd here. I would have let you know the truth of the Israelite boys showed take Joseph’s coughing up there and putting beside his father. Will put him somewhere in the land of Israel. That’s what he really wanted he saved Egypt. So he could have done that.

  17. 8:57

So why did he make out? That he should be taken out with the people. And I think that that comes to that. Essence of faith of Joseph. He had those two words of his father and his great-grandfather that had been said before you really leaving this layout. And I think he saw that wanted to act on that.

  18. 9:23

You didn’t necessarily want to take his own way out and get himself delivered to the land of Israel. And well, the rest of you people that leave you to do what, you know, I’ll let you get out when you can get out, but I’m getting our now. When I’m dead. All right. Instead, he spice sort of said well I want to go with my brothers.

  19. 9:44

I want to go with older, go with everyone else goes because I believe is in his heart yet all conviction and full strength that the Israelites were going to leave Egypt. And that was his wife. It was so strong that they were going to leave Egypt. Then he said, well, I don’t care if I do now. We’re in 100 years or 200 years.

  20. 10:07

I will eventually go and when I go, if people take me with you and I think that’s that’s part of the part of the Powerball, is it was, it was Joseph Faith. The faith of didn’t know in Hebrews 11 verse 1. It says faith is the substance of things hoped for the evidence of Things Not Seen.

  21. 10:30

He just had those couple of words from his father and his grandfather great-grandfather that that’s what was going to happen. And he had the full conviction, that was actually going to happen. So we do before we go back into New Testament, let’s just continue following the bones of Joseph and let’s see what happens to the next. So we go through the years and we come to Moses and in Exodus chapter 13, go there And the best 19, the words of Joseph hadn’t been forgotten.

  22. 11:14

And just as Joseph was just as Pharaoh, let them go. And Moses is taking off out of Egypt. Verse 19. Moses took the bones of Joseph with him. For, he has, strayed me Swan. The children of Israel saying, God will surely visit you, and you shall carry my bones away hence with.

  23. 11:41

So they were in a hurry and they were to get out and they taken all the goods of Egypt and Egyptians, but they also carried this coffin. I don’t know what it was made of stone or, or what? No, no. Don’t know if he says he was in bombed. So was his insides and John. Has, I’m not sure, but They Carried Joe Joseph’s blow and all through the Wilderness and you can imagine that questions of, with children of Israel.

  24. 12:11

But as their wandering through the Wilderness, they’ve got people dying along the way and they’re burying them in the wilderness yet. They’re carrying was Coffin and they continuously Globe. Every Camp had to pick it up and move it to the next place. We can imagine people saying, why are we carrying this thing? What’s, what are we doing with this? Probably just dump it here like, trip, double with the rest of our people.

  25. 12:36

Because how many millions of people died there in the wilderness? Why are we carrying these bones? And I think that was part of it, part of the intention of Joseph white hear that. It’s, it’s part of the plan. The plan is that we leave in chips and go and Joseph’s bones are reminder to the children of Israel that this is the plan of God, we’re leaving this place. And we’re going to the promised land and even though I’m dead, I want to be with a with you, in the promised land as we go. And so I did that’s it, just a beautiful part of that you’ve got the grumbling of the children of Israel and yet they’re still still carrying his coffin through the Wilderness or reasons that they didn’t fully comprehend and hopefully some of them did and picked it up.

  26. 13:32

And and continued and looked at both us often as a as a symbol of Hope and and looking forward so, they get into the into the

  27. 13:48

Into the Promised Land. And Joshua still carry around. So if we go to Joshua chapter the last chapter chapter 24, it is here Chuckles 24, and they get into the promised land and Joshua didn’t find the first place that he could. All right, we’re here we have just get rid of these bones.

  28. 14:10

Let’s bury Jacob, Joseph where we can and is in the promised land where he wanted to go know the whole way through Joshua’s K of paying, he still carrying the bone. As of Joseph and it’s not until the ends. Whereas verse 32 and Joshua dies, yes. Verse before while so I thought 24, Joshua 24 And verse 32.

  29. 14:41

And the bones with chose soup bones of Joseph, which the children of Israel brought up out of Egypt. Very they in shechem in the parcel of ground, which a good board for, from the sons of hamor, the father of shechem 400 pieces of silver and became inheritance for the sons of Joseph and they died. And that’s the end of the book Earth. Joshua.

  30. 15:09

And then we move into the very next chapter, which is a judges. And you can see a decline of Israel going from there. Joseph’s bones had been that there’s symbols for people like Moses and Joshua and keeping them strong throughout their period. They didn’t bury him because it was that, that symbol of Hope through their life.

  31. 15:30

And yeah, when Joseph’s bones were buried, the nation sort of goes into some sort of Of wax. Today’s equal. Apathy about God. And so the the the point of Joseph’s bones, I think was for Joseph to get out of Egypt and and not to look back, not to look back and on the good things that were in Egypt, the latest in the Garlic’s and whatever, but to always look forward and to look, look towards the promised land. And if we go back over to Hebrews house, I go to Hebrews chapter 11 again. and if we go to verse 13 to 16, Here. I think we see why this specific instance in Joseph’s life is chosen.

  32. 16:23

I think a lot of the, a lot of the reasons why a lot of the instances were chosen in this chapter were, for this reason verse 13, all these died in faith, having not received the promises but having seen them afar off. And were persuaded of them and embraced them and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth for they that say such things declare plainly. That they seek a country.

  33. 16:59

And truly, if they had been mindful of that Comfort country from whence, they came out, they might have had opportunity to return. But now they desire a better country. That is a heaven and Heavenly where we’re of God is not ashamed to be called their God and have prepared a city for them.

  34. 17:27

So I think that that, that sums up the reasons why Joseph made Commandments of his bones, he was looking forward to the new city, a new place. He wanted to leave that place by and in Egypt, but he didn’t want to leave it behind by himself. It’s bad enough years on his other, and them to bring his whole family with him into that Promised Land. and here we see that if you had opportunity to look back to look around, Then you might want to go back to that other city and and so it’s it’s state is telling us to keep our minds on the kingdom and looking forward. And this I think this this the book of Hebrews was written to the to the Hebrews in Jerusalem before ad 70 where Christ in the prophecy in the old, the Olivet prophecy told them to get out when they could and to leave everything behind and just run for the hills when the opportunity came because desolation was going to come up on the city. And I think this is why there are so many passages like this where in what way the faith of the People are recorded in Hebrews. 11 just say look forward. Don’t Look Back.

  35. 18:52

Get out while you can. Wine ways you can separate yourself from the world around you because the water Ranch is only going to end in in disaster. And this is where my tired of make citation comes in by faith. Insert your name here, right? So where would our story our life? Where would we sit in the book, go and the Hebrews chapter 11. What what Act in our life or what thoughts in our life would be that defining moment that could be written here and in all of the book of the Hebrews 11.

  36. 19:36

So by faith Nick, when he was, I don’t know, don’t go, she did this and that, separated him from the world. He was able to to see, I love the story of Tom other thing dominated from online there today, And he’s in story of when he was in the factory working and he wasn’t going to work on the on, on the only guns and machines that for war in those days. But he was separate and in the form and everyone knew that him separate.

  37. 20:12

And I think that would be an instance of where he’s recorded in, this sort of Passage here in Hebrews 11 by faith, Tom. Yeah, stood aside from producing things in the world and instead. Separated himself. So if we just think in our lives here, where where we can focus our mind on the kingdom and we always stood aside from the things of the world and where we separated ourselves, think that could help us in our in our journey as Joseph bookstores, the kingdom and made Commandments concerning his bones.

  38. 20:49

So, I’d like to just wrap up this morning, and we’ll go over to Romans, and in this time in Romans chapter 5, actually do four, not five, Romans chapter 4, and we’ll have a look at Abraham. And this takes us straight back into that Genesis chapter, 15 passage. If you look at Romans for well, I’m going to change version here. And I think I’ll read it from the NHC. Romans 4 and verse 18.

  39. 21:29

Against hope Abraham believed in Hope. With the result that he became, father, became the father of many nations according to the pronouncement. Cellular, your descendants be okay. So that was God’s pronouncement to Abraham. So you’re so, will your descendants be without being weak in faith? He considered not his own body because he was about 100 years old or the deadness of Sarah’s worm. So he was old man.

  40. 22:05

Yeah, he considered not. Those things. Is that inhibit ation for him to be carbon. That father of many nations He did not waving his unbelief about the promise of God. But I was strengthened in faith. Giving God giving the glory to God. She was fully convinced that what sorry that what God promised he was also able to do. So Abraham was fully convinced and and that was his faith that God was able to do what he said.

  41. 22:48

It didn’t know how the that he was all wife was old-world pasture bearing children but God has said it. Okay. It’s going to happen, somehow.

  42. 23:03

And so we see verse 22 says, so indeed, it was credited to. You heard. It said to Abraham as righteousness and we see that back in Genesis chapter 15 and verse 6 and says and he believed in the Lord and it was counted to him for righteousness. So, Abraham with fully compressed, yellow, the King James version, puts it fully persuaded in in verse 20 and verse 21.

  43. 23:41

Well fully persuaded that God would do as he said just as Joseph was fully persuaded that the children of Israel come out of the land of Egypt and he made mention of his bow is just because of that Abraham was fully fully persuaded that this

  44. 24:03

I like the way that he any, the, the NIV puts verse 21, so it’s going to change too. So invest 20 shoe, Change the ni be here. beauty of digital things, this it is Let me Deborah, just read back from 21, being fully persuaded that God had the power to do what he promised.

  45. 24:30

This is why it was credited to him for righteousness. It was because he was fully persuaded that, it was credited to him for righteousness. And if we move on to verse 23, it says the words, the words it was credited to him. We’re not just written for him alone. As so this wasn’t just but Abraham, just because Abraham believed and he was fully persuaded It’s not just written but just he gets a credit of righteousness, verse 24, but also for us should whom God will credit righteousness.

  46. 25:13

For us, who believe in him, who raised Jesus, our lord from the dead. So for us, we believe in God who raised Jesus from the dead, he will be credited to us from righteousness as well. So this pretty powerful further for the faith that we can have in God, we can leave aside the themes of the world, we can put up with our focus on the kingdom and believe in God. And that is credited to us or righteousness. Just as it was to Abraham because he fully believed that God would give him a nation.

  47. 25:59

Well, I think that’s that’s that’s pretty powerful to us that, you know, that just through belief, we can be credited for righteousness. And in verse verse 25, he was delivered over to death for our sins. And was raised to life for our justification. So Christ was delivered over to death for our sins.

  48. 26:25

He it in. And what we come here to remember this morning in the death, and the burial, and the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, in The Taking of the bread and the wine. We seen that he was he his death was for our sins. The Take Me Away about sins. Yeah, he was raised to life for our justification, it’s a many years ago. I heard an explanation of the word justification and stuck in my mind.

  49. 26:59

And it’s so simple that I got to tell you it here now. So the many of justification. Let’s just see what strong says since they’d burst but for us also was I started 5 minutes to render. That is to show what regard just or innocent free. Justify be righteous by another another slightly different word acquittal for Christ’s sake justification. Okay, so that’s a strong definition of it. I like this definition.

  50. 27:40

If you break the word out and to what it sounds like, just If I’d so Justified just if I’d never done it use that. Never done it to the edge just if I’d never done it. Okay. So it’s noon your become like just as if you’d never done it in God’s mind you being justified and I like that. So he was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised for our justification.

  51. 28:12

So then we could be in God’s eyes. Just And said we’d never done the sins that we have committed by theists, that’s beautiful and we’ll finish off with with verse 1 of Romans chapter 5. Therefore since we have been justified through faith just as justify Justified, never done it through faith. We have the peace.

  52. 28:39

We have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. And as our Lord, Jesus Christ with come here this morning to remember in England, taking of the bread and the wine.
