Welcome to good for selfie and talks. I’m Levi and I’m Chris and I’m Brian, thank you for joining us this week. On this podcast, we select one taco week to help us get the Bible in our daily news feed. We post a new episode of the start of each week with a short intro. Hand to kind of set the stage for the talk. You’re about to listen to, and now let’s talk more about this week’s talk.
- 0:51
This week’s class is by our brother, Aaron, McKie from the Cambridge, Ecclesia in Ontario, he’s giving an excitation that he gave on September 4th. I don’t have the title. It wasn’t in the, in the recording, I’m going to call it perfect and blameless. That’s how he opens it. And that is the continued theme through the excitation that brother Aaron, kind of details. How, how do we become perfect and blameless that is impossible.
- 1:20
How did we act that way? And the resolution is through through our Lord and Savior? Jesus Christ, which is true, but being a part of his body, Body and part of his life and his sacrifice, we can become perfect and blameless. This was a decision that was suggested to us and I can see why it’s a. It is really great.
- 1:43
Aaron has an amazing. I think amazing just really great delivery style. He was a really wonderful voice to listen to and this is a classic excitation so happy to share it. So here is Perfect and blameless by Aaron, McKie. All right, well, good morning, my dear brothers and sisters in the Lord, Jesus Christ.
- 2:09
All those tuning in over our Zoom call. I’ll admit that being that. It was a long weekend. I expected, maybe a bit more of an intimate crowd this morning, but I see that our guests have come out in full force. So, very glad to see that. Our numbers have been balanced, and very thankful to see all of you here.
- 2:37
You know, it’s no secret. That within the course of Our Lives is we vest ourselves in this book in front of us. That we recognize and see that our God has called us to be many things in this life. It’s called us to be righteous.
- 3:00
holy set apart from this world, not only in the way that we act, but the way that we think He’s called us to be faithful. To trust and evidence of Things Not Seen. And you see Bronte sisters and what is perhaps one of the hardest things. The charges of scripture to reconcile with the present state that we exist in in our Flash,
- 3:26
He’s called us to be perfect. t’ and blameless before our God, and I’ll be perfectly honest with you. That’s a commandment of scripture that has always fascinated me. It’s fascinating because I think naturally, it felt to be this degree of an unobtainable calling I have to do is ask her, who should be the first to tell you that? I can’t pack a dishwasher perfectly. Let alone perfectly abide with the commitments I made to God in my life.
- 4:05
I don’t know about you, run sisters. It’s often when I think to this idea of perfection recorded in Scripture, I can’t help but reflect back and all the things in my life I regretted doing. Mistakes that were made. All the things said to people that Only, I could take it back.
- 4:28
But I can’t. The periods where I should have turned to God in this trial. And I didn’t times when faced with a choice of my life where I should have had more faith that I should have been more trusting and I wasn’t I look back and I’m forced to reconcile that all I am faced with Is purely a record of my imperfections. And again, I don’t think my story is unique in that button sisters.
- 4:56
Yet here, we see this command. A text in the records of our Bibles. From the words of warning, delivered of Moses in Deuteronomy 18, you shall be blameless before the Lord your God.
- 5:11
The familiar words of Christ in Matthew 5, you must be perfect. As your heavenly father is perfect. It’s a theme that stretches the entirety of scripture, doesn’t it? And not only is this a prevalent theme within our Bibles were in sister? So I’m going to put you. This is a theme of incredible importance. We’re told that the blameless and their Heritage remain forever.
- 5:33
Proverbs reads blessed are those whose way is blameless? Who walk in the law of the Lord, Abraham is told by the Lord, I am the almighty walk before me be blameless. And then I will establish my Covenant with you.
- 5:47
The promises of God and the covenants made to Abraham were contingent on him being a blameless man before his God. So that’s quite the question isn’t run sisters.
- 5:58
How do we achieve this for my God, what is he desire to see in this? Is it true that the bar is set? So high before us, that this is truly, this unobtainable calling. Well, these particular questions. This important directive we’re going to take a brief moment to pause and consider this morning and for the sake of time, we’re going to do so by focusing on, just two Avenues of thought. You see the first of which is a question button sisters. A simple natural question.
- 6:30
That often arises I think is we’d approach these verses in the word of God. And that’s what does Perfection mean to God. You know, in the way that we use this word run sisters were often predisposed to attribute it to things with the absence of flaws, don’t we? We think the beautiful works of art.
- 6:48
We look at Michelangelo’s the David it’s perfectly, rounded marble, isn’t it? We might describe Perfection to that. But is that what God means when he attributes blamelessness and Perfection to individuals in the word of God? That’s going to be our first question. but for a final and closing thought, We’re going to end the consideration of how we Orient ourselves in this life.
- 7:18
To obtain that Perfection said before, in other words, how on a daily basis in the actions? We take in the decisions were faced with and the person we choose to be at the end of the day, how can we be counted as blameless?
- 7:33
In the eyes of our master. And so, it is that will Jump Right In. And we’ll begin with the reflection on what are two entirely, different perspectives. On what it means to be perfect. I think it’s relevant to start with the consideration. I think that’s that. If I were to take a general poll of our audience here today, whether any of us have been blameless and our walk in the truth, I’m fairly certain none of us would feel very inclined to throw up a hand and say, yes, you know, that that adequately characterizes, my walk in the truth, much less the events of this past week.
- 8:17
AC, that’s not necessarily a bad mentality happens. This is, in fact, I think that’s an encouraging mentality to develop means that we’re self-reflective, but it is telling Because that’s in part due to the fact that as Society, we often tend to define perfection as the absence of failure or flaws. Which naturally means that’s us.
- 8:37
The moment. Something has a flaw. It’s therefore not perfect. So as we draw close to this subject, it’s very oftentimes seen as that unobtainable colic.
- 8:47
Our minds framing behind this bar set, just Out Of Reach before us. Maybe it’s even a negative thing. This guilt inducing subject to consider is all we can do is reflect back on our wrongs and the truth. That’s one way we might be. Predisposed to use this word Perfection I’m a put to you is another one button, sisters, a simple and subtle aspect to this human perspective on Perfection. That’s that in some ways Perfection is something. We might achieve ourselves, isn’t it? I’ll give you an example.
- 9:24
If you’re a young person in school, it’s answering all the questions right on a quiz is that can just happen by accident happened, because you applied yourself. You, you dedicate yourself to the material there by the time. The test came, you, you asserted the right amount of control in the situation that you achieve, that hundred percent.
- 9:42
If you’re at work, it’s maintaining this perfect track record in the things that you do, there’s this element of control to the human perspective on Perfection. The idea that there’s something you can do to make it right, that if you just apply yourself. You can maintain perfection.
- 10:03
But now let’s contrast this Perfection of man. This lens were so predisposed to look through in this life to what our Bibles say about perfection to the Perfection of God. It is perhaps best to start with the consideration of a mandarin sisters who knew much about what it meant to be blameless in his walk before God.
- 10:23
We think to the life of David I’m Hannah rights. Many words concerning Perfection. He writes, I was blameless before you go out and kept myself from the old. With the blameless, man. You’ve shown yourself blameless. This God has made my way blameless. Blessed are those, whose way is blameless. David is a man Keenly aware of all the many elements that were discussing this morning about perfection plays into his walk in the truth.
- 10:53
AC4 to consider his life. As we look at it, we can see how that could have very well been the case. That he did walk very perfectly and blamelessly before is gone.
- 11:08
Yet, knowing what we do about this individual? Well, we are forced to reconcile that there were certainly points in his life where he fell far below that Mark, didn’t he?
- 11:22
Points. He was far from the kind of person that ended that you are. I would have considered a blameless Manning. If you’re anything like me, burn sisters, you probably look to the life of David and you surmise this. Something along the lines of First Kings, chapter 15 verse 5. And that reads that David
- 11:36
Followed all the Commandments of the Lord. Except the matter of Uriah, the hittite. For though, he was a great man. How could we emit such a great and blatant wrongdoing? BC run, sisters. The fascinating thing is that is not the only summary. To the life of David that scripture is going to provide for us. In fact, just one chapter prior to that first Kings chapter 14, it reads you with not been like my servant David. Who followed my Commandments, and follow me with all his heart doing, only that, which was right in my eyes. Only that, which is right in my eyes, our first Kings chapter 9, and he said, David walk with her brain is doing according to all that I commanded.
- 12:38
Keeping my statues of rules. And of course, the key word, their brothers sisters is all, isn’t it? All the statues? All the Commandments, all the precepts of scripture, David kept in his life. In other words, you could very well say Then our Bibles has presented David. As being a blameless, man.
- 13:03
So what does that mean? Run sisters. What are we seeing here in? What is on the surface? These two very juxtaposed statements. The life of David. Well, I’m going to put to you what we’ve seen wonderfully accentuated. Is the difference between two perspectives on Perfection, is the difference between the Perfection of man.
- 13:23
And the Perfection of God and we see this in the very simple distinction that the account here, that would bear record to Davidson. The historical fact of his wrongdoing. Well, that’s that of this story Martin sisters. It’s the man, it’s the chroniclers, the author of Kings. Well, the record here, that would count David as blameless in his walk, that emits, the transgressions of his life and account him as perfect. Before his God.
- 13:50
Well, that was spoken from the mouth of God himself. And brother and sisters in that is a powerful and revealing thing, because it answers a few questions and it raises a few more, doesn’t it? But the one that answers is that Perfection to God, is achievable.
- 14:12
He wants us to obtain it David he says obtained it. Noah our scriptures call him blameless and his generation. He updated job in 2001. He says, he obtained it None of these individuals were Flawless where they have very blatant sins. Born on the record of scripture, don’t they? And it’s in that understanding their lives. Another Revelation, which is simply that the Perfection that God is looking for in you.
- 14:37
Is not the flawlessness of man. It’s not defined by the record of things that happen in your life. The the wrongs and the transgressions done, which raises a relevant question, if not a perfect adherence to his will, what does God look for? To see perfection.
- 15:06
Well, it puts you Frozen sisters. There are truly many elements and building an answer to that question, far more than we have time to thoroughly go through this morning. But we begin in answering it. And we start with the consideration of what made a man like David. So unique in his life what makes him worthy of being called ‘fameless. when we think back to the life of David, you know it’s often life of a man who I personally put on a pedestal I can’t help but think of how close he was to being blameless in his walk in the truth.
- 15:46
And really how can we not runs this use as much of the Bible in front of us? Is composed of the wonderful things he did? Whether it’s a hundreds of beautifully inspired, Psalms he would write his words. Some of the power to touch our hearts to this day, Or the desire in which he desired to establish this house, flippers God and Faith. He displays and those words, the glasses. He says, this day, all the Earth will know, there is a God in Israel, but I put to run sisters that Perfection attributed in his life.
- 16:16
Had far less to do with these actions and far more to do with the one thing. God assess and David from a child and that’s his heart. A heart that was completely reliant on the forgiveness and deliverance of God because not the record of actions again that God is looking for and David because that would have been flawed, wouldn’t it?
- 16:44
It wouldn’t have been blameless rather. It’s the spirit of humility and repentance. He has we’re upon making the mistakes in his life he time. And again, throws himself completely on the mercy of his gone. But the understanding there was nothing he himself, could have done no action, he could have taken no control over the problems in his life.
- 17:02
He could have asserted to rectify. The situation, he got himself. That’s what God need to see in David Byrne sisters. If there is one aspect that we could reduce to the man in the character. That is David that we would then emulate to achieve this title of blameless. In the eyes of God, we look no farther than that. And you see, brothers sisters.
- 17:38
Developing a heart of Reliance on our God. That’s something that extends far beyond the times that we’re just going to struggle and make mistakes in this life.
- 17:50
Because see this Reliance on God. That we see present within David, well, that’s really what God expects of us in every action, Choice decision in crossroad that we’re going to face in this life.
- 18:03
I tell you, if we feel that we’re going to struggle to do this in our lives, I know that I certainly do. I think it’s, you know, not too much of an assumption to say that we’ve all struggled with this. Well, our God has a way of bringing us to points in this life. Well, there’s no other alternative than to fall and complete.
- 18:19
Reliance on his power deliver and often these aren’t very comfortable situations are there. Princess looking in the mirror. At the end of a long day and all we can see are the weight of many sins sins which just seemed to sap. Our strength way is, all we can do is dwell on the insurmountable things.
- 18:43
We’ve done wrong. Or perhaps we find ourselves out of our deaths. surrounded by the insurmountable obstacles of this life, maybe we feel like Jacob A man in scripture whose whole life is really reduced to One Long struggle of what we’re talking about this morning, run sisters of letting go of control of developing a heart of Reliance on his God.
- 19:11
Who’s putting this position, where he’s facing up to the 400 men of his brother Esau, and what does he do? He immediately begins to strategize doesn’t he?
- 19:18
Tries coming up with a plan, he’s separate this family can see, that’s what that’s what Jacob always did. He’s trying to assert some control over the situation, to fix it by his own hand. But what does God do to him in that moment? Well, he takes the last thing from him last thing, that gave him any semblance of control, which is simply the strength of his own hand to protect his family. And God would require that, he goes before his brother and full Reliance on the power of His God. Full Reliance that only he could deliver that’s the lesson. Jacob me to learn his life and run sisters. That’s often the lesson.
- 20:03
We need to learn in our own lives. We consider job. Another man called blameless and perfect. Before is God, who, but being stripped of every comfort and safety he had in his life, he’s pushing this point where he stays for the choice and the choice is simple run sisters. It was either to curse the name of his God. He’s got to an all appearances.
- 20:28
Seemingly abandon him. Or to trust in his Deliverance. It’s in this revealing moment when we can imagine that many, others would have failed that this perfect heart of Jobe is revealed as he spoke, the Lord gives, and the Lord takes away. Nevertheless, blessed, be the name of the Lord.
- 20:53
He showed his God, this harder Reliance. And of course, the point of the magnitude of these examples is this from the sisters that we are going to be pushed to these same braking points in our lives.
- 21:06
Where we too will come to the very same Crossroads that David, Jacob, and job. And so many other faithful in the word of God stood before, and we will be faced with a choice. And that choice will either be to say, forget it. Where you’ve taken me? God, is is too hard for me to go.
- 21:26
I’ll go my own way or it will be down the path towards perfection. Which begins and ends with one acknowledgement from sisters and it’s a simple one.
- 21:41
And that’s that we are imperfect. And there is nothing we can do without the Deliverance of our God. And when we’re faced with that choice, when life puts us with our backs, against the wall that understanding is either internalized in our hearts, Or it’s not brother and sisters. How many powerful examples of lives of men and women are in this book in front of us?
- 22:11
Who internalize this lesson? we think to the woman in the Gospels, She throws herself through a crown just to Touch the Hem of the robe of the man in front of her, because she knew where her Deliverance was coming from.
- 22:26
We see it in the father. They threw a constant series of delays. Weights and faith is precious. Child is slowly slipping away from because he knows, he’s waiting for this man who could deliver, they are glimpses of people’s lives. Who win their hearts could rely on God. And so it’s as we reflect on This Heart of Reliance. So essential to develop to obtain this Perfection of God. One that chooses that path towards Perfection that leans on his redemption and forgiveness in all things that were naturally led to consider just how complete that forgiveness is.
- 23:19
That’s able to make us perfect. I’m going to suggest we get a glimpse of this. In Psalm 32 run sisters, come with me there, if you will. You see here in Psalm 32 we have, what is this beautiful insight? Into the Forgiveness of God, through the words of David. We read in verse 1. Blessed is the one against whom.
- 23:51
No. Whose transgression Is Forgiven Whose sin is covered. Read Psalm 32 verse 2. He’s blessed is the man against whom the Lord counts. No iniquity. So again run sisters here. We’re seeing this element of perfection that we’ve been talking about this morning. That there is no trace or record of iniquity counted in the Forgiveness of God, but don’t go out with me. Well, don’t bet with me, if you will, the verse 5, We’re going to see just one powerful consideration. One element, that characterizes the Forgiveness of God. AC here in the lead-up to this verse We see a description of this guilty conscience. that I’m certain run sisters at at some point or another, in each of Our Lives, we can all directly relate to It’s David describes, this feeling of bones, that wasted away inside of him.
- 24:50
This this trouble that beset someday and either dries his strength like this hot summer day. I don’t know about you run sisters, but there have certainly been moments of my life.
- 25:04
Spend exactly like that. Where every waking thought every action has been burdened and crushed. With the weight of a guilty conscience. But then we consider verse 5 and I love how they and IVs going to translate this it reads then says David I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity.
- 25:31
I said I’ll confess my transgressions the Lord, he comes in for gone with that part of Reliance we discussed before. And in that moment, he says you forgave even the guilt of my sin. Even the guilt of our sin Bronte sisters, that is the power of the Forgiveness of God.
- 25:54
Even the guilt can be removed from us. That’s the level of perfection in which he can make us, what a beautiful relieving and Powerful consideration. but in reality,
- 26:14
How hard is it to actually? Let that happen in our lives. So often the tendency of life is to hold ourselves and and let’s be honest those around us to this Perfection of man discuss before to this, this idea of all is this where we can’t help but reflect a time and time again the areas we stumbled or that somebody else made mistakes. The times we lost sight of the path in front of us and and did things that we regret it in.
- 26:46
It’s in that train of thought. That it was calling us to remember something. This is something that my great-grandfather used to say. In fact, if I’m remembering correctly, it was one of the thrust of his final exhortations. And that’s that, it’s not about the record of what happened in your life.
- 27:12
Not about what went right and what went wrong. It’s fundamentally understanding a key aspect of the relationship with our heavenly father. We have to develop, which is understanding that if you come before him with complete, humility in your heart. Absent of the seat, he forgives.
- 27:32
And understanding that means that we are obliged to remove that guilt, because Gilbert and sisters is debilitating. Guilt can impede our ability to serve We can use it as a crutch and justification in this life to inhibit fully. Devoting Our Lives again to God. And I’ll be honest, as a young person. Those words really didn’t mean too much to me. but as I got older, I think I know just just how true they were. Because I can think the times of my own life where I couldn’t help but get stuck on the record of the things that happened. Times where even though I prayed to God, I still felt that weight that the weight of a guilty conscience that David describes his one that saps our strength from us it’s not an easy thing to get rid of.
- 28:28
But the point of it is his friends sisters. If we allow ourselves to get stuck on that record, To become stagnant in our service. Then we aren’t truly trusting in this complete. Forgiveness of our God, are we? In other words, we’re saying to God you might be able to do a lot with me in my life. But you can’t make me.
- 28:52
Fully perfect. How many of the men and women in our Bibles in front of us? Could have talked themselves out of devoting their lives and further service to God based on the wrongs. They commit in the past think too, Peter. How easy would that justification of Ben? now, an understanding what we consider this morning brother and sisters It doesn’t mean a few things. It doesn’t mean we liberate ourselves of all inhibitions. As Paul says not that sin May abound in my life. It’s not about receiving the grace that we have in Christ and using it and abusing, it took to do what we want in this life. It doesn’t mean we won’t hurt when we’ve done things wrong. That there won’t be days of crying and tears life guarantees that in abundance burn sisters.
- 29:52
It doesn’t mean we won’t carry the effects of these actions with us that we don’t have to deal with consequences and life. We certainly know a man like David did but it does guarantee you one thing. And that’s a guarantee of peace.
- 30:15
An easing of your mind, not as this world could give you. But is only one man that has ever walked this Earth. Has ever been able to guarantee. We consider the events of Luke 7. in which we had our introductory reading and in which lies a powerful representation of everything, discussed this morning, We see an individual.
- 30:52
This woman burdened with the weight of many sins and flaws. I record that none would have ever looked to and described as perfect. We see her heart. Displayed through her actions of the tears crying in the perfume Spilled Out in a man’s feet, a heart that was completely reliant on the Forgiveness of the man before here we see her.
- 31:14
This guarantee of peace. With the word spoken woman. Your sins are many. Your sins are forgiven and we see her this woman. That was blameless before her Lord told to go in peace. For she now carried. No guilt. That is how completely.
- 31:38
Her Lord had perfected her in this moment. And naturally blonde sisters upon seeing these events, transpire before them, there were those who witnessed these things and they struggled. They couldn’t reconcile what they had just seen for. How can a woman with such a great weight and record our sins with. So many flaws, just be forgiven. You know, wasn’t Perfection earned, isn’t it a long record of actions that this blameless adherence to the law of Moses? And it’s in this incredulous state that the exclaim allowed who is this?
- 32:15
That can forgive even sins. Well, that’s the very same question. That we consider this morning. But in sisters, who is this? That can forgive our sins. you see if the many times, That the word Perfection is ascribed to Something in the word of God. The vast majority are used to describe the kind of sacrifice that God has always said he required from man. This man was one who achieve this perfection. Order for the first and only time in human history is truly without spot or blemish in his life who walked in Perfection. This is a man who not only walk blameless before his God, but walked with something God, truly required of his sacrifice and that’s a perfect willingness A perfect Reliance on his father and all things.
- 33:25
And of course we see these two aspects of his character, the perfection in action in the perfection in his heart. Well, they come to manifest themselves in the most miraculous away from sisters because you see the power of this fan isn’t just evident in the things that he did the Miracles and acts of power performed.
- 33:45
It’s the way he spoke to people. With Words, which came to ingrain themselves. Not only in those who heard then but in the hearts of those who for thousands of years to come, could read his words turn and recognize that man as their Messiah. That was the power. Of the perfect character of Christ a Perfection this Earth.
- 34:14
Had never before witnessed. Yet, for all these words. All these Miracles wonders and acts of Love done in that short life. Well, There were many who hated him for it. As the proverb reads bloodthirsty men hate the way of the blameless and seek the life of be upright. So too, is this man’s way hated and their anger and their hatred.
- 34:50
So too, is this man’s life saw? And it’s as they take him a man. So blameless that even without giving a defensive himself, he’s judges, see his Perfection that it’s in this moment, we get a glimpse of Our Lord. Standing at a Crossroads.
- 35:10
The same one that David. stood at the same one that job and Jacobson of the same one that we will be standing out in our lives. When sisters faced with the choice, and that choice was either to walk the path of perfection fully reliant on the Deliverance of his God.
- 35:32
Or to choose his own way. The way the flesh would have us go. And we know the path that our Lord chose, don’t, we? You see that’s a choice. He’d been making his whole life and through the trial of beatings. Of whips and fist through the trials of humiliation, as they call him, King of the Jews and they clothed him in purple. And through the trial of crucifixion is, they nailed him to that cross next to thieves and criminals to watch him die. He not once deviated from the path of perfection chosen. Not once.
- 36:13
Does he choose his own way? But instead he breaks his mind he killing his flesh of the word of Isaiah may be fulfilled that all man may come to see the glory of God.
- 36:24
And the power of this moment is summed up beautifully Bronte sisters and just one powerful instance that’s this. Heal a broken and beaten on that cross.
- 36:33
Dying a death fit for criminals. Not a man. A soldier. We can very well, imagine had witnessed the same process time and time again, looks upon that body. At seeing past the broken and torn exterior recognized that he was seeing something different that this was an injustice like you’ve never seen before, because, what was before him was a perfect man dying.
- 37:06
Something this Earth had never before witnessed. And it’s in this recognition that he’s claims ladders. If you can’t hold it, inside of many, more says surely that man. Is the son of God. We see Bronte sisters, just as that Centurion. Stood struck in recognition of the Perfection of the man before him. So, to do we now, gather here, In recognition of the Perfection of our Lord, and the sacrifice made for us.
- 37:47
For as it’s written in the Hebrews, it was my one-man after you offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God. For by one offering, he hath perfected forever. Them that are Sanctified in him. In other words, brothers, sisters. If we are of this man. If we’re of the sacrifice, that he made, Perfection is secured. For what he’s offered.
- 38:27
So it’s as we come before these emblems. Now, perhaps feeling the shackles of many sins that we fall now upon the mercy of our God, If you the offering of his only son has loose these bonds, we wear that we can leave here with the resolve. Of the Apostle, Paul.
- 38:49
Who wrote May the God of Peace himself? Sanctify. You so completely that your whole Spirit soul and body be kept blameless, At the coming of our Lord, he who calls his faithful. Surely he will do it.
