Welcome to the good Christian talks podcast. I’m Levi. And I’m Chris. Thank you so much for joining us this week. On this podcast, we select one taco week to help each one of us. Get the Bible in our daily news feed. We post at the start of each week for you to listen. With a short intro beforehand to kind of set the stage for the talk, you’re about to hear.

  2. 0:33

And now let’s hear more about this week’s talk. This week’s talk is the fifth talk in a series that Brother. Joseph Palmer gave at the Texas Bible School in 2013. It is the final talk on his study in Philippians. I found this to be really excellent. A verse by verse Exposition, and the fit, the last talk made the most sense to share with the show because he does a summary kind of all the lessons up to the point and then wraps up the talk with kind of some of the overall lessons of Philippians Brother. Joseph is an excellent student and This talk is really easy to listen to lots of things to chew on here. I really enjoyed the point about Yoda and sent a key and yeah, have just really happy to share this. Talk with everyone.

  3. 1:27

We are getting close to July and Chris and I are going to take the month off and we’re really excited to have Brian and Rachel Adams from the Morristown New Jersey Ecclesia, who will be taking over as kind of the guest hosts for them? Month of July Chris. And I will be back for the 100th episode which will be that, I think the third week in July.

  4. 1:51

So we’re excited that to reach that kind of mile marker and we’re pretty close to reaching 100,000 downloads. I’m sure. We’ll talk Krishna, will talk about that in the intro for the 100th episode. So thank you again, so much for listening, we really appreciate the community. Both, you know, the Christian Community at large, but just the all our listeners and all the support we get via email. Feedback, you know, positive and negative is just really helpful. This show has been a blessing to us and we think thank you all for supporting it.

  5. 2:22

Definitely let me know if you have any suggestions and but here is Joseph. Palmer’s class on Philippians Philippians chapter 4, So let’s have a little review then about what we’ve been looking at. So Acts chapter 16 is where we started with the Philippian Ecclesia being developed. First of all, all goes into Europe into the feet of iron and clay and produces the gospel message to particularly Lydia.

  6. 2:51

We thought of the seller of purple whose heart the Lord opened and then we come to Philippians chapter 1 We’re from the very first day. Paul remembers this beautiful group together. Doesn’t seem to be any real problems in this Ecclesia. So Paul exhorts them and encourage them, not just to leave off where they started, but to move on and on and become fruitful as the Lord.

  7. 3:14

God loves fruitfulness and so they do got a good start, but perhaps there was a Macedonian trait of making a good start and being one and done. So he encourages them not to leave it where they got to there was already a fantastic. Spirit there, but to move on and grow that and become fruitful in it. And then we thought about the choices that was set before, Paul and Silas whether to appeal to Caesar or not in chapter 16, he chooses not to whether to appeal to Caesar or not in Philippians 1 at scenes and he appealed to. And so he had this conflict in his mind as to what to do, and we can bear that for ourselves and the choices that we have and we can look around us.

  8. 3:55

We look at our community, we look at those others in the The Phalanx in the unit and we can see others who’ve chosen to do things or not to do things. They had a right to and they’ve chosen it for the right reasons. So you look around and you see that and you take encouragement from it and so we came then to understand in Philippians chapter 2 that what was behind all? This was the mind of Christ.

  9. 4:17

That’s what allowed Paul to allow himself to choose to suffer Affliction and that’s what he’s encouraging them to develop the mind of Christ. And then in Chapter 3 of Philippians, We looked at a danger that, that development of the mind can take there is a warning to develop mind of Christ, but not by law, not by either the law of Moses or bylaws, which we can make. And to avoid this danger.

  10. 4:43

How, how do we avoid that danger of trying to rely on on ourselves, on law? Just by the mind, that presses toward the prize of the high calling. And so we saw the athlete and how he strives, how he leaves behind and disciplines himself. And give us a way things, he’s not interested in for their moment and looks to the Future and he’s looking for the prize of the High Calling of God.

  11. 5:06

So in this last class, what we’re going to do is last class, at least on Philippines is to look at the unity of standing fast together in more detail. So we’d seen the mind that was in them. And in chapter 3, we looked in verse 16 about them walking by the same rule for walking line to walking rank para the Phalanx if you like and we’re going to take that up. In this, in this particular class and we also learned the means by which that mind can be generated gradually formed. So have a look at verse 1 of Philippians, chapter 4, Therefore, my brethren dearly beloved. So it starts with a therefore, why do we use therefore, because of all the things that have come up to this point. So, because of the Mind, the Press is toward the prize. He can say this.

  12. 5:54

So, therefore, because of the things that have gone before my brethren, dearly, beloved and longed for my joy and Crown. So Stand Fast in the Lord. My dearly beloved, this is the same word stand fast as in 1:27 and it can only be accomplished through the one. – count it. You can’t walk in file, you can’t walk in line, you can’t hold the line.

  13. 6:16

Unless you’re of the same mind The Stand Fast. And the christadelphians scripture, study service, booklet on Philippians gives this as to stand in an unbroken line, the standard, an unbroken line. So that’s what he’s talking about. So because of the things that have gone before because of the mind of Christ because of the choices and we can see them because of the Affliction, the choosing of it.

  14. 6:37

We can stand fast together. Now, look at the way he uses this phrase, but you’re not going to go through them all. But Paul uses the stand fast in these ways to you says, to stand fast in faith to stand fast in Liberty to stand fast in spirit to stand fast in the Lord, and to stand fast in the Traditions.

  15. 7:00

It’s sort of a defensive mindset if you like it. The steak. Oh, this standing in an unbroken line in faith, in Liberty, in spirit, in the Lord, in the tradition, And of course, the Roman Colony here. Philip I being a Roman Colony. They’re quite they’re aware of these things. This is language. They were familiar with. They’ve just seen this happen and they defeated Superior forces by their discipline and teamwork. And we’ve seen that idea coming through before we 3:16 they were, we have the wood to attained rather arms as to advance.

  16. 7:35

So they advanced in the same rank, they were to stand fast. They were to walk by the same rule to walk. Same rank. So we’ve seen this kind of idea before, haven’t we of them walking in that rank of a stand fast? There, there’s The Stand Fast of keeping in the line and we’ve had that idea.

  17. 7:52

And but look at the language though of chapter 4. It’s not the language of the sergeant major. It’s the language of what have a look. The tenderness of this language is lovely, my brethren, my dearly beloved, my joy and Crown Stand Fast in the Lord. My dearly beloved, this isn’t The, I mean, he’s taking the his note from what he’s seen around him.

  18. 8:15

He’s taking his notes from the stake of from the, from the Phalanx. But he’s saying my dearly beloved, he’s not forcing things on them. He says doesn’t write them. Say, I demanded you do this or that he doesn’t do that. Does he? It’s the tenderness there. And we think of the language of the Lord Jesus, in this respect, he was gentle, wasn’t he?

  19. 8:34

And in 2 Corinthians 10 verse 1. It says, I beseech you by the meekness and gentleness, Of Christ doesn’t demand things by the strength and the power of Christ he beseeches by the meekness and the gentleness of Christ. So that’s that’s what is going to keep this line. It’s not hardness of discipline. It’s love.

  20. 8:58

That’s what binds it together. The Phalanx is not drawn from fearful discipline, but from loving discipline, have a look at verse 1 again. It says my joy and Crown. So we’ve got this keyword again. Going up the joy that flows through this whole epistle and he calls them a joy and Crown also in second Corinthians 1:14 we won’t go there but in 1 Thessalonians 2 verse 19. If you want to flick over to that 1 Thessalonians 2 verse 19. It says for what is Our Hope or Joy or crown of rejoicing are not even you in the presence of our Lord? Jesus Christ at his coming.

  21. 9:34

So you see this is the crown he’s got in his mind. These people would have seen crowns all the time with them. They they were fully aware of it, what he’s talking about, but it, what is his ground York? Leisure is his clout ground, but not just the Ecclesia. Now, what he says is, are not even you in the presence of our Lord.

  22. 9:52

Jesus Christ, at his coming, that’s his goal. That is long-sighted goal. It was the preciousness of that, the source of delight that he has that he writes of the joy and rejoicing, the source of that was this Ecclesia at the Kingdom. The presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at his coming and he feels the degree of responsibility for their eternal life.

  23. 10:15

And that’s what will bind this column together. That’s what will bind this Ecclesia and our individual colleges together is the love with the long-sighted goal of presenting one another of helping one, another on that road to the kingdom. So these are the Crown’s that these guys here are striving for, I think, is it the Laurel wreath? I think was the emperor’s War Laurel wreath. I think this is the Olive wreath that the athletes were striving for so they’d see it?

  24. 10:44

This is imagery. They’re quite Quite familiar with here. The Greek games and when they had the Olympics in Athens, they replayed that didn’t he? That’s what the actual athletes had.

  25. 10:59

And so, obviously they weren’t being exhorted to strive after those things where they was. The Incorruptible Crown, the Crown of Life, the crown of righteousness in the Old Testament, the crown is used in several ways as well. The crown is used of glory and the glory of wisdom. The crown of a grandfather is his grandchildren.

  26. 11:22

There are crowned him absolutely precious and it’s this kind of mindset that Paul had almost looks on the Ecclesia is if there is grandchildren, you know, that special bond a grandfather or grandmother has for their grandchild. It’s beautiful. And we’ve seen played out before us. And of course, we also know that old men in the truth are regarded as a crown in the proverbs. Just that wisdom that’s drawn out over all those years. Yahweh describes himself as a crown and Israel are his crown and a read to you from Psalm 21.

  27. 11:55

And from verse one, the king shall joy in your strength or Yahweh and in your salvation. How greatly shall he Rejoice? You have given him his heart’s desire and have not withholding the request of his lips for you. Prevented him with the blessings of goodness. You set a crown of pure gold on his head. Now, that crown of pure goal, of course, is talking about the Ecclesia, the pure gold being tried and refined its us on the head of our Lord, Jesus Christ.

  28. 12:24

And that’s the king. And he asked in verse 4, he asked life of you, and you gave it him. Even Length of days forever and ever. His glory is great in your salvation, honor and Majesty. Have you laid upon him for you have made him, Most Blessed forever you have made him exceeding, glad with your countenance, for the king, trusts in Yahweh.

  29. 12:43

Yeah and through the mercy of the most high, he shall not be moved so this idea of trusting that takes us back to the chapter 3. There’s no the Philippians 4, Paul laid out all the things he could have trusted in. Remember that skubalon, that’s what he regards it as skubalon. It was the refuse and what he wants was to trust in God, his confidence was not in the flesh, therefore there is a confidence.

  30. 13:08

Therefore it was sure because it was by faith and not by works. In the Revelation for we hear of crowns. Don’t we Revelation 4 verse 10, we have the Ecclesia, the body of Christ. In this case, represented by the 24 elders, and they all wore crowns. It’s the Ecclesia in the role. In the Kingdom age of being Sovereign of being rulers. It’s the rulership aspect of the brothers and sisters in the millennial age, and the twenty-four Elders cast their crowns down at the feet of the Lord. Nay was a symbol of the Ecclesia worshipping the lamb and During that these crowns are his glory is his several look back at Philippians, chapter 4 and verse 2. And 3, we have a possible problem coming up here, right? There’s a problem with this line, it was meant to be an unbroken Line.

  31. 14:00

This Stand, Fast has a chink in the armor. If you like the unity, The Unbroken line of standing fast. Well, there’s an encouragement here in verses, 2 & 3, for the line to stay Unbroken. Have a look of us to of Philippians 4. I beseech you odious and besiege Syndicate that they be of the same mind in the Lord.

  32. 14:24

Now this idea of beseeching we’ve seen a few words which are particular to the Philippians joy and rejoicing. That’s a particularly Philippian aspect as an exhortation. There, the mind of Christ, that’s how they had such joy and rejoice. In this. The mind of Christ is a particularly Philippian word and this word also is one of the other words which is particularly Philippian besiege What does beseech mean literally? It’s got this interesting thing, when you look at things, literally, of course, you can lose the meaning. Can’t you when we think of awful? Well, we think that’s bad but literally, it means full of all. But it’s lost that kind of connotation. So there is, there is a danger looking at things literally. But when we look to besiege, it literally means to call alongside call alongside now, you imagine being in The Unbroken line will.

  33. 15:17

Come on quick. Come over here. And it’s interesting when you’ve got This kind of thing in your head you see you notice it. When you look around, I saw a sister two Sundays ago in our Ecclesia brother came in, who’s on his own. Doesn’t have his family. There he comes in and he just goes and sits at the end of the row and she goes. Come on, come over here.

  34. 15:36

Oh, that’s Lovely. Isn’t it? He’s she’s literally beseeching him. She’s literally calling him alongside and we can do that. Obviously don’t have to do it. Literally like that, but it’s nice. If we can do include somebody to bring them into the line to bring them into the occlusion and of course, there’s more to that is no.

  35. 15:51

As many ways we can do the calling alongside so he beseeches you old. Yes, come on. Your odious, come over here and besiege US integrate. Come on, come over here, he besiegers. And he calls them alongside. And what does he say to them? He says to be of the same mind. Now, if we were to go back to acts 16 which see this idea of calling alongside and hopefully tomorrow when we finish we can we can develop that further but it’s interesting that just take until chapter 4 to get to this point. Isn’t that interesting?

  36. 16:21

He doesn’t go in straight in chapter 1 verse 1. As a you odious and synthetic a uni sort things out. So what’s the exhortation there for us? It doesn’t bring a railing accusation. Doesn’t say yoga should totally out of line. It doesn’t say that does he doesn’t do that, he’s gentle, he doesn’t even solve the issue. Just says, Hey be of the same mind. You trust them to understand the excitation and to let the little things go and to be of the same mind call alongside. And the mind of chapter 2 of the mind of Christ. The mind of the servant is a mind that will do that, isn’t it?

  37. 17:00

Take away the disagreement. And it’s interesting that it’s taken all the way to here to do that. It’s interesting you look at Galatians Galatians, 3, verse 1 isn’t Galatians, 1 verse 1, the issues are dealt with later, so he exhorts them, he stalks them. And so we when we speak the people, we may have an issue. We need to discuss with them.

  38. 17:20

Well, that’s not get it out of context. The context is all of the other things that come first. All the things we do, share, all the things were sharing in the line. All the things we’re sharing with what we have is a prize set before us. So, let’s not get that. Out of context.

  39. 17:34

And also, there seems to be an exhortation here, not necessarily to get involved in a fight between these two people. I mean, who, who is poor or Paul? Is somebody who’s got the spirit of God is the holy spirit gift, and he chooses not to get in and solve it and that can be something we can get involved in, isn’t it?

  40. 17:52

We see a problem. Your, I can solve that this do this, do that to the other, you’re wrong. You’re right. But he just says be of the same mind as lovely, trust them to sort it out. And it’s one of the options that we Have is just not to get involved and obviously, when we’re looking at these things, it doesn’t apply to every single situation to this.

  41. 18:09

Sometimes we have to get involved but it’s one of the options. One of the strings to the bow. If you like is just to say to brother sister, hey, sort that out. Now, have a look at these two words, you odious and Sint, okay? It’s interesting. You odious literally means to help on the way as a lovely. As a lovely name is at you, odious means to help on the way, of course, when we think of the way we think of God. And we think of his way and obvious, his name, and of his character and His glory.

  42. 18:39

That’s what we think of when we think of the way and the way back to Redemption and so you rode, his actual name is to help on the way and sin. Okay, I don’t know if she was the youngest daughter or something, but her name’s her name means accident. So, it’s kind of interesting when you look at it, literally says, Hey, help on the way I beseech you to come over here and to be of the same mind is accident. Okay.

  43. 19:05

Well, what are we trying to get at here? So these two sisters are encouraged to be of the same mind, aren’t they? So that they may meet together on the way. It was an accident and help each other on the way to the kingdom, of course. And so you look at that help on the way.

  44. 19:18

An accident and then if you like that us doesn’t it. We accidentally bumped into each other, we’re all on the same way and we can all help each other on that way. We’re pretty, disparate group, aren’t we? You know, I think about it. Look at look at us. And so were the disciples under the 12 were pretty disparate group, his brother. Peter has said previously, very, very different backgrounds and we have very different backgrounds. Some of us are completely uneducated and some of us are professors leaders in our field.

  45. 19:47

Some of us are well, In some of us are poor and most of us are somewhere in the middle. The very different group and if you like, we’ve all bumped into each other, each other we have poor. Syndicated with all had an accident with, oh, you’re on the same road to you. And yet we all need to you odious, we all need to help each other on the way. And it’s actually that, which makes it special, isn’t it? Is that?

  46. 20:10

Which makes it special, we’re not all the same flavor. We’re all different and it’s that which brings together something as a whole, which we could never do individually. And the only thing, of course, we really have in common is the mind of Christ as an IT and the goal of the prize of the high calling. Now you think of the this in example, how do we see that people bumping into each other?

  47. 20:32

And going along a way. What we have a bad example. In the parable, when the man goes down from Jerusalem to Jericho and the levite and the priest they bump into him, don’t they accidentally find him on the way and they’re not of the same mind, so they just keep going. They’re not of the same mind of Christ.

  48. 20:52

The servant mind wasn’t in them. So they Syndicate. They bumped into up by accident. Somebody on the you odious on the way but they didn’t help. Because they weren’t of the same mind they didn’t have the christ-like spirit of service in them. In the Old Testament that was the ox, wasn’t it? That was the face of the Caribbean which was the ox and they didn’t want that, they weren’t interested in it. So there’s a bad example of where people bump into each other on the way and don’t help each other. We think of a good example.

  49. 21:21

I’ve good example would be the Ethiopian eunuch if you like and fill it Ethiopian eunuch sin is Chariot trying to read Isaiah and and Phillip bumps into him by accident on the road and the Chance together and they helped each other. On the road to Salvation because they were of the same mind that was interesting actually in that example that they were trying to figure out or he was trying to figure out, Philippines was helping Ethiopian eunuch to figure out why Christ would suffer. Why would why would the P person who is to be the Savior, have to be a sufferer?

  50. 21:54

It’s interesting that that mindset that servant mindset is there. And so these sisters are told, you know, you bumped into each other on the road, but help each other. It was an accident. You chance together, but help each other on the way. And it was the mind of Christ that would help that happen, isn’t it? Now Colossians 3 verse 2 says to set your affection on things above, now that word for affection is the same word is mine.

  51. 22:20

Set your affection on things above set your mind on things above, you can only do it. If you esteem your sister better than yourself, you can only do it that way to look at the Lord Jesus and say, you know, he helped me while I was yet a sinner Christ came and died for me.

  52. 22:37

That’s the way you’d achieve it. Now in Colossians 3, it lists all the evil afflictions that happened Colossians 3, tells them to lift their mind. And he says look this is the list of problems fornication uncleanness inordinate, affection, evil, concupiscence and covetousness which is idolatry and because it gives the list. And then in verse 16, The antidote to all that thinking which was refused and vile the antidote.

  53. 23:02

This is what brother Max and our Ecclesia calls it for the matter working Styles. This the antidote is in verse 16. He says let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom. So there is the mind of Christ to let the word of Christ dwell in. You the let it dwell in you.

  54. 23:21

It’s interesting, isn’t it? It’s not like good on your sword and go and fight. It’s that little thing. The small thing to let the To Christ dwell in. You don’t want it in there, really I’m natural. Inclination is not for it, but let it dwell in you and that’s where your affection, your mind will be lifted by letting it dwell in you richly teaching and admonishing.

  55. 23:44

Now, what’s interesting in Colossians is talks about a repeatedly phrase, thanks. And that seems to be where they were their mind was correct. Their affection was correct. And what did that generate didn’t generate? I’m better than them. It generated thankfulness and that’s where we are. And in Romans 1, it looks like the end of not having thankfulness is all those despicable things. At the end of Romans 1, they were unthankful and it lists that as sort of a precipice off which they dropped because they were unthankful all these horrific things happen and you can Colossians they’d lift In mind their affection, they fill themselves with the word of Christ and so that led to them being thankful.

  56. 24:26

It’s interesting how simple these things I wasn’t. It it wasn’t like go out and battle go and do this. Don’t achieve that go and climb this going row over there. It was just let it dwell in you. It will if you let it It’s lovely, isn’t it? Let’s go back to Philippians 4 and verse 3. And again, he continues his very gentle approach to them in verse 3.

  57. 24:50

He says, I entreat you and that’s the same word. This beseeching a calling alongside I entreat. You also true yoke fellow. Help those women, which labored, with me in the gospel, with Clement also. And with other my fellow laborers, whose names are in the Book of Life. The gentleness like the shepherd, isn’t it? Check it doesn’t get the stick out of whack the sheet for going off.

  58. 25:14

Hey just gently nudges it this isn’t the lovely beauty of the gentleness and meekness of Christ in effect. So in treats, he calls alongside his gentle approach. And he calls this person a true yolk fellow or a genuine Co yoked person again. We’ve got this idea of of the Ecclesia being together is this togetherness yoke fellow.

  59. 25:38

Rob the same yolk. I was gonna see if somebody had a yoke. They could bring to show us that they were genuine yolk fellow. Now who is this? Well let’s have a think. Well we can maybe delay thinking about it. When we first off, consider about the coal yoked what are we go cooked into what’s our service Romans? 6 Styles us as slaves.

  60. 25:58

Romans 6 kind of shows that you are a slave like it or not sorry, but you do get this incredible Choice. You’re up here. You’re about to be auctioned off. And you can choose who’s going to be your master. If you want to choose sin, it’s wages are death. Or do you want to shoot choose righteousness? You don’t learn anything but there’s a gift. And the gift is eternal life and Paul never forgot that status as a slave because himself a slave all the time. We see it a servant but it’s the word is slave. Never forgets that status and he rejoices to share it with this. I believe sister to have the load, isn’t it? True, yoke fellow to have the load the load. So that’s what we’re looking at.

  61. 26:40

A yoke. So Paul sees himself and the sister together in this way, like those two oxen and those two men, they’re sharing the load the yoked together. And so I think this is Lydia, if it is why doesn’t he named her white? Well, whoever it is, why doesn’t he named them? I believe it’s because and I think it’s Lydia because he’s talking to this person to help out a particularly the women, which labored with me.

  62. 27:12

Now, it’s particularly a sister’s role to help the other sisters. Not that we can’t help each other regardless of gender, doesn’t matter. Does it in Christ, but I would think it’s probably Lydia and he’s got a real gentleness with her. He doesn’t name her, I think, because she’s of the order of Sarah, she’s that kind of person.

  63. 27:31

She didn’t like a public reference. Now, imagine this is the Ecclesia Philippi. And the Philippians epistle comes is going to be read by the brother and during their getting together. It. And so this sister who’s very gentle sister is not spoken of directly, there’s an inference, and sometimes that’s the best way, isn’t it?

  64. 27:51

Not all of us are out there and gregarious and gentle word is what’s needed, a little inference for somebody. I say this, I’m the worst person to be saying that a gentle even. For instance, somebody can be more helpful than you need to do this and there’s the gentleness of the shepherd. The shepherd knows his flock knows that sheep over there.

  65. 28:11

Does need a bit of Her kick. But he knows this one over here is very gentle and timid. It would crush this sister, probably to hear of herself being spoken of and we can probably all think of a sister like that. Some of you here are probably that sister and we can know I’ve got Heroes of all these things in my mind.

  66. 28:29

You know, I’ve got a hero like this in Heracles. Your another ugly. Just I think of her, I think a gentle word from the platform is much better than the sort of sisters. Such you need to do this. And she’s gentle and she needs to be treated gently. And that’s the best way and most effective of encouragement for that particular type of lamb that particular type of sister.

  67. 28:50

And so what, why is he speaking to her? He says to her I believe it’s her. I entreat you also true yoke fellow. Help those women, which labored with me in the gospel, what does she need? She just needs a gentle prod to step up her efforts to help the other sisters. And it’s probably why would this sister need to be given this excitation it is not wasting his words as he.

  68. 29:13

He’s saying this sister. Hey step up your efforts a little bit because it’s probably out of her Comfort level. She’s probably a shy sister, naming her. If it is a, her would crush her and she’d cringe at it. So she probably is out of a comfort level to help others. She didn’t really want to say what needs to be said and we can identify with that. Can we do not always want to go out of our way and say? Hey, I think that might be Wrong and for some of us that’s easier than for others.

  69. 29:40

And this little sister here needs a gentle subtle push to do that. Now, it’s interesting. It says to that her exhortation was to help those which labored with me in the gospel to those women, which labored with me in the gospel now rather hams translators that as those sisters which maintained the combat.

  70. 30:02

So the language here again is language they would have understood of the soldiers in this Roman colony. so, to the women, which labored with me in the gospel that those, that main, the maintain the combat with me in the gospel, The words in the Greek. We lose it. In the English, probably. But in this particular verse this word, which we call soon keeps coming up in all of these words. So soon, Takei, Is one of the sisters in verse 2. Yeah, there’s two.

  71. 30:43

And then throughout verse 3 we keep coming up with this prefix on all these words. So you can imagine if it was read to us in the Greek, you have the case in Decay or soon, Decay you, and your odious be of the same mind. And the next verse is Sewell and Bando tsudzuki, gasps sued Nathalie ho Suna gasps. Now, that’s obviously falling over itself to say this would soon.

  72. 31:06

Now, what does soon mean? It means together so soon, 2K. Was not only to accident or to chance, but the chance together chance together, and her strong word soon is a strong word, and there’s other words, it could have been used of the togetherness. They were to help together. They were to be yoke, fellows. That’s a together team.

  73. 31:31

They were to labor together. They were to contend together. They were fellow laborers, they were to work together. So it really tripping over itself in this verse to tell us about the togetherness that is re being required of this formation of those, in the combat of the gospel and underlines the excitation to us, doesn’t it of The Stand Fast of the togetherness and it wouldn’t be tripping.

  74. 31:55

Itself, if this came naturally, naturally, we’re essentially goats going all over the place. But he’s exhorting to have this togetherness and have a look at the end of the verse is, lovely talks about the fellow laborers about the, the, those who maintain the combat together, whose names are written in the Book of Life. Now, that is lovely.

  75. 32:18

A lovely picture, isn’t it? The names written in the Book of Life, the plural, they’re all of their names, not just one. But the plural for names, were written in the book of life. It’s not a Sprint finish. Those athletes that we looked at earlier. He’s guys have a gold medal for the one person who gets to the end, but what God is interested in is not a Sprint finish for us.

  76. 32:44

What he’s interested in is. For the names to be written in the book of life. And they are says, the written in the Book of Life is a team Race and we can help each other. It’s is the whole team together and they’re written in the Book of Life in Exodus 32 in verse 32, remember, when we had the issue with the golden calf, and Moses speaks to God and he says, forgive them. And if not block me, I pray you out of your book of life. In other words, he’s already in it, take me out. God has to interrupt that prayers, he know. Uh-huh.

  77. 33:17

The soul that sins essentially shall die. He does no substitution here. You can’t separate Christ from his Brethren Moses in Psalm 69 Verse 18. David says, in verse 28, actually of Psalm 69, let them his enemies be blotted out of the book of the living and not be written with the righteous. So this book is written already and our names by God’s grace already in it, but perhaps they were inserted in it. A baptism, they can be removed, there is that? But the inserted in The Book of Life and in verse, 4 of Philippians 4:8, says rejoice The lord always. And again I say rejoice it’s worth reminding at this point of the happiness that is because sometimes togetherness doesn’t always yield happiness, the line remains unbroken but they’re not always delighted.

  78. 34:13

We want the next person is doing so is it a handy reminder to rejoice and again I say rejoice, it’s not natural necessarily to pull together like this. It’s not a natural reaction to compromise. Is it delightfulness? I’ve compromised. I didn’t want to do that but I did for you and perhaps it’s not always natural to Rejoice about that and this sister who was referenced in verse 3.

  79. 34:36

Perhaps she was going out of her comfort zone to do something and he’s saying, hey you got out your comfort zone, but be happy about it. Be rejoicing about it. And sometimes saying, or receiving bringing into line isn’t comfortable as it if that person over there needs a little push this way or that way or over this way, it’s not always comforting to be brought back into line.

  80. 34:58

I’ve never enjoyed it. But that’s, that’s something he tells them then to sweeten, this, with the rejoicing. And again, I say rejoice. Now, how do we overcome this? How do we overcome our natural things, the things which is listed in chapter 3. The thing, the big things that needed to be overcome and I love in scripture, how big things are overcome with very simple thing. So he said to let the word of Christ dwell in you. It’s very simple, isn’t it?

  81. 35:27

In its Essence. Another look at Bruce, well let’s have a look at verse 8. Finally Brethren whatsoever, things are true whatsoever. Things are honest whatsoever. Things are just whatsoever. Things are pure whatsoever. Things are lovely whatsoever. Things are of good report if there. It’d be any virtue if there be any praise think on these things.

  82. 35:49

It seems too simple. Doesn’t it that all of our problems can be overcome by just thinking on these beautiful things thinking on what is true and honest and just and pure and lovely and of good report doesn’t seem right that that would be the answer and the battle with a sinful mind. Is not doesn’t take great acts of skill and in Courage and endurance necessarily. It takes thinking on the things of Christ filling ourselves with that takes discipline to make the Mind, think on these things. Of course you don’t naturally go that way, do we. But to obtain the christ-like mind is to think on these things and you think of the Lord Jesus Christ, think of him on the cross, does he use strength and power to come down from the cross and prove that he was the son of God? No.

  83. 36:37

Didn’t he just? He didn’t do that. He put the serpent mind of the Pharisees to shame in a different way. Didn’t do it by strength. He did it by thinking we’ve already looked at the Hebrews. 12 verse 2 for the joy that was set before him. He endured the cross. So how do we do that?

  84. 36:54

Well, how do we start our day? We start with prayer. We can zoom out the door as fast as we can. On my case, my bike to work, well, we could stop coming. We’d have a thoughtful prayer. We can stop and have a verse before. Going out for the day, the scriptural song on a journey. Force ourselves to think this way, really? And then it’s there when you need it, the Lord Jesus didn’t have a concordance with him on the cross, to look up what he would need to do.

  85. 37:23

Is Brother. Rich has been saying it has to be in you if they want it. He’s got to be put their first to be drawn on. You need to build up our pool. So we can go. Hey this is this is what we need right now. He said it is written, he put it in his mind in advance. And so, especially with our children, we can do that. Can’t we can constantly show them and teach them the truth. And the scriptures while we’re sitting down while we’re lying down while we’re on the journey.

  86. 37:48

Philippians 4 verse 9. It says those things which you have both learned and received and heard and seen in me do. Now there’s a position Brother, Paul’s coming from. This is not many of us can say this those things, which you have both learned received heard and seen in me. Do it’s not a one-dimensional. I told you how to do it.

  87. 38:11

He not only told them how to do it. He taught them. He showed them, he went there and he got the beating and he’s how could the Philippian Jailer say anything about feeling bad about preaching? Dang, one pulls their singing hymns. He knows he’s seen it, it’s not one-dimensional. I learned he received and they heard it and they saw it in poor wonderful example, and in verse 10, Says.

  88. 38:37

But I rejoiced that word again in the Lord greatly that now at the last your care of me has flourished again. Now that word care is the same word as mind, that mind of Christ. So they’d use the mind of Christ they developed it. That care has flourished again. Now, that’s what God loves isn’t it?

  89. 38:56

He loves flourishing. He loves fruitfulness. The talent needed to be increased, the Mustard Seed needed to grow. But all these things happen from a growth. You’ve got what, you’ve got the talents, you have the skills, you have the opportunities. You have, you didn’t decide to have them. I didn’t want to be that or this, I was, there is what we do with them, we don’t go. Yeah, I’m really good at that.

  90. 39:20

We just give it more and more and let God’s grace growing it. And so it’s flourished, its growth And this word for careful is also the same word as mind where until you were mindful or careful. The mind of Christ was in their care but you lacked opportunity, it given a gift with epaphroditus verse 14 and 15. It sent a gift they communicated or fellowshipped with Paul. Even though they weren’t with him, they couldn’t pick up the phone.

  91. 39:48

But he was so endearing, isn’t it? That even when he was away? The thoughts were of him and had sent him a gift? Sent him a gift, the thoughtfulness and the prayerful Provisions that they given were far better than whatever gift they’d sent. I’m sure they’d sent some money for him on his journey or something like that, but it’s the thoughtfulness that was behind that which was lovely to him and did them to him and we can do that. Can’t we, we can send a CD or we can send an email can help out with videos or cards.

  92. 40:20

Six cards that brother, Larry’s been talking about, we can do that. We can help each other on the road phone calls, especially to the unpopular, you know, is under the feast and the law. It wasn’t the popular who needed to be invited. It was the unpopular us. The ones who were in need of help.

  93. 40:37

I remember in San Diego, Ecclesia, this happened for us as well. We went across to Europe, I think I was teaching the German Bible school and we came back and the fridge is got milk in. There’s Breakfast. For the next day, there’s some bread for sandwiches. Somebody come in got into the house and they’ve done that for us and it meant a lot. Not that, I really needed that milk. I mean but it was super useful for us so we didn’t have to do that extra thing.

  94. 41:02

The next day didn’t come back thinking, I’ve got this to do and that sister came in and she did that for us and it’s stuck with us that the love that was there and we can all do that. We can go out of our way and we can call one another alongside to do this. And so that’s where we leave this lovely family. The Ecclesia It in sand in San Diego, because you’re in Philippi and we can treat one, another as family has a Texan trait, isn’t it?

  95. 41:27

So to take it, and go on with it and include people, take that household of the Jailer, the household of Lydia mindset and bring in others to the Ecclesia. And so let’s briefly just summarize what we’ve been in the Philippian occlusion here. Lovely at leisure, we talked in Acts chapter, 16 about the choice between Israel and roam about putting our suffering in the Text of that about Babylon and Rome or about the things of God, Jerusalem and Zion. And so we pale into insignificance in our choices. When we see that all this going on is this battle and choice to suffer is, is reduced in its difficulty by doing that. We see Lydia and the Jailer and their Delight from the first day, to open the truth, to open their families to allow Paul in to do, not only to come and a by. But to constrain the want to serve In the Philippians chapter 1, we looked at that heartfelt Delight from the first day and not only to leave it there, but to encourage to grow to grow, God loves fruitfulness.

  96. 42:34

In the second chapter of Philippians, he draws on that level of the mind of the Lord, Jesus Christ, that allowed him to choose the difficult path that while he was grappling with, what to do in the particular situation, it was the mind of Christ, which infused him and allowed him to choose things, which weren’t natural. And it’s the mindset of the Lord, in the particular aspect of the servant that is given to the Philippians is poor Philippians, their poor will look at it in 2 Corinthians tomorrow.

  97. 43:04

Hopefully, they were a very poor group of people and they were giving group of people, they gave more than others even though they out of their poverty, they are bounded. They were beaten. They were Afflicted in chapter one. We told that they were undergoing strains and stresses physical ones And it’s the mind, the servant mind that particular aspect of the Caribbean which has been drawn on that the Lord Jesus didn’t see equality with God, something to be snatched at something to be grasped.

  98. 43:33

He had the peace in himself and the trust that God would do it. If he saw it fit in, in chapter 3 we saw the problems that that developing of that mind can go down. We saw that there is a potential for us to lean on Law and of proving things and of developing our own righteousness but that servant aspect of Jesus Christ was one which trusted and we’ve got underlying all this book the lessons from a Hezekiah that wound who trusted in God more than any other the servant trust that his master is faithful and the servant Jesus Christ trusted that God would give him life and redeem him from the grave and not to prove it. But the count all the stuff we were thinking we could prove as refuse.

  99. 44:20

And to have our confidence in God. And that’s the only way we can have confidence is this by faith because we know we’re not good enough. We Know by works. There was no strength to this promise and it’s the determination of the athlete and setting aside the things of the present and determining the looking at that crown. Ahead of them.

  100. 44:41

The prize of the High Calling forgetting those things which behind I lost the race. Last week I tripped and I fell and I hurt myself. Well forget those things which are behind. Forget them don’t don’t go back and dwell on those sins are gone but doesn’t even know about them anymore. They’ve been eradicated What is the discipline of the soldiers as well?

  101. 45:01

The keep in line, you can’t do it on our own, we couldn’t do it on our own. So the Lord God sent his own son, and now we can’t do it on our own either. So he’s given us one another to help each other on the road. The discipline of the soldier to keep the line.

  102. 45:14

Keep the rank. Don’t let this silly thing spoil. The Ecclesia don’t lose a Unity over something like that. The discipline of the soldiers set, before them, these sisters who I was in combat with for the truth in the gospel. Walk by the same rank, keep that rank together, keep that line be set for the defense of the Gospel in chapter 4, that Unity of standing fast together is called on again, and the Reliance on others, the soon, the togetherness of that ecclesial unit don’t let that chink form. Your audience is in Decay close up the Gap and he doesn’t say you over there.

  103. 45:49

Close up the Gap he calls alongside you odious see Okay, come on. And the means by which that mind is formed. Is this simple thing of thinking on these things? It’s absolutely Lovely. Isn’t it? You think of these things? Now, I was talking to a sister earlier on about the mass of the army of Egypt coming out and chasing after Israel, in the wilderness, they depend in no room either side and just to see the Red Sea ahead of them. And it says, this Army of Horsemen of Chariots came towards them and in the language of Exodus, what? God.

  104. 46:23

Do he breathe? That’s it. It’s a Simplicity of God against this. Upstart, very one is host coming towards them and he breathed, and he left the way open for them and gods breathe into his son and the son buried in, let this mind dwell in you, let the words of Christ Infuse. You, your nature will not want them there, but let them develop that mind.

  105. 46:53

Strengthen one another on the journey call each other alongside think on these things. And so the overriding aspect of each chapter is the joy, isn’t it? And the rejoicing of the Lord and you think of the Lord, Jesus behind this letter rejoicing, in this group, that his mind is being put to use in this group of people.

  106. 47:15

So, we leave this beautiful group of people at Philippi who brought such joy and praise to him who saved us, but where are they now? They know sleep, don’t they their names? In written in the book. Sadly, we have to look to the ALS diary. If we were to have one and we see there is no occasion Phillipi. So we need to be careful.

  107. 47:35

They had no problems in. Really, in reality, they didn’t get told of issues that we’re going on. There is no doctrinal problems to speak of but yet they’re no longer there. So we need to have the soberness to think that even if we think we’re doing, well, there’s so much more that we can do to take the example, the excitation from this group and Bless all of us on that Journey as we bumped into each other, as we have a recent decade, we bumped into each other, by accident on that Journey will let us view odious.
