Welcome to the good Christian talks podcast. I’m Levi and I’m Chris. Thank you so much for joining us this week on this podcast. We select one taco week to help each one of us get the Bible in our daily news feed. We post at the start of each week for you to listen.
- 0:30
With a short intro before hand to kind of set the stage for the talk. You’re about to hear and now let’s hear more about this week’s talk.
- 0:43
For our talk this week. We’re taking a class that was given at the Mount Waverley study day earlier this year that is given by Brother Andrew Larson on the topic of praise and worship and brother Andrew spends the the better part of this class looking at What it means to praise both in the Old Testament and then also as you move forward into the new looking at what the words praise and worship mean and how that was done in biblical times. But then also he then takes some time looking at how we if you know Lord willing were able to be in the Kingdom how praise and worship is going to be performed in the Kingdom age and he spends a little bit of time taking a look at that which I thought was a an interesting perspective on prey. Worship not that long ago.
- 1:33
We had a study weekend out here at see me that was talking about praise and worship and was focused more on the concept of singing praises and music and how you give glory to God and praise His name through that. But what brother Andrew is doing in his class here is he is instead looking at how we go about praising God in our day-to-day activities.
- 1:59
I really enjoyed this this class by Andrew. You just because he gave some simple ways to help get yourself out of sometimes the the funk that you can see yourself in. I know I’ve run into it before where you seem to be. You can almost seem to be too focused on all the things that are going wrong or the things that you’re trying to trying to figure out and you know work on things with their problems instead, you know, he gives a really good point and kind of near the end when he’s getting into more of like the lessons to be taken out of the different types of praise and worship.
- 2:32
That he pulls out in his study to look at it from the perspective of think about all the little things that God has done for you in your life one step at a time. And by the time you finish looking through that if you’re even able to get to the end of that list, it will help you get into the right frame of mind to be able to truly give praise and worship to God for all the little things that he’s done going from the simple matter of creating life on Earth to really simple Matter but creating life on Earth all the way to the sacrifices of his son that opened up the way to Salvation to all of us. So I really enjoyed this class this this talk. It was a really good refreshing look and since it’s kind of been a theme that’s been going on more recently about being more willing and open to praising God just in your day-to-day life and all the little things that you do at feel is something that can be important to be genuine in that praise and brother Andrew. Does it really good job with this? This class was a suggestion.
- 3:32
One of a couple stalks by actually my brother Andrew that somebody had suggested in this was the best one of the bunch of so far that we’ve gotten is always please continue to send in those suggestions as you find them if your Ecclesia has any classes or talks hosted that may not be on the mean kind of christadelphians sites the christadelphians Bible talks or Crystal film Vault police in them our way.
- 3:54
It’s always exciting to find new Unearthed Treasures of talks that maybe other people don’t know or are out there the class. Sin, the atonement from couple weeks ago by Brother her tent was an example of one of those and if you’re looking for something that’s a little bit different from the kind of long form of this podcast. I want to give a shout out to Sam Taylor’s class pause to consider and also Rachel Adams class new every morning. My wife Kristen was listening to a couple of the classes from there and talked about that.
- 4:24
They had she had a special guest speaker on another sister talking about depression anxiety kind of in a two-part series and I know one of the classes We’ve posted in the past year that has really hit a chord and it’s been really powerful to a lot of people was the class on by Brother Phil Davidson on depression and she mentioned that this class in particular was one that kind of had a similar style of looking at it from a medical perspective isn’t well as looking at what it is though. I haven’t listened to it myself just because it’s a podcast that’s more directed towards sisters than it is to Brothers. But if you’re interested in listening to it, feel free to give it a listen as well.
- 5:00
As always. Thank you for all the support and He reviews comments of anybody that you’re sending in it’s appreciated and we’re glad that people are finding the podcast to be useful with that. We’ll turn it over to brother Andrew Larson for his class praise and worship. If we were to make a list of words that we use most frequently in our meetings and our prayers and hymns.
- 5:28
And talks that we’re here. I reckon near the top of that list would be the word worship and praise and the great words and biblical words, but the problem with words that we use very often is that they can lose their income and they become part of this. We’ve all sort of got a little vocabulary of words that we can call upon very quickly when we need to Spring together a few comments and I guess brothers who public prayers Sometimes feel that way if you might be called upon with very little notice and it can be very easy to sort of shrimp the all these words that are very powerful words because we use them so often they lose their impact and I’m not suggesting any time anyone use the word worship and praise that they before about but I’m saying there’s a danger that that can sometimes be the case with these very familiar words. We use them so often the used in all of their meetings. Our hymn book is full of the mention of the word worship and praise.
- 6:35
So what we want to do tonight is literally three things firstly. I want to look at what they actually mean so we know exactly what those words mean when we use them. Secondly, what we’re going to do is and we’ll spend most of their time on that, but we want to just have a little sneak preview into the kingdom to see what the Saints Do with worship and fries and why they do and that’ll take you so long and then finally right be in will this little bit of the think about what we can do to make sure we’re feeling like that now because you don’t always feel that way in our life today.
- 7:09
So first of all, let’s just have a look at the word worship. Now the word worship it the English word worship actually comes from Two Old English words, meaning of the words are worth. Which is obviously what that man’s and the words Skype SC. I ve work Scott. Now. We know what worth worth means.
- 7:34
It means that they use Something’s Got a value and the word stop and that were actually eventually became the word ship and what that word is its that’s a word that the signs of particular probably the something. So, for example, if we use the word friend shit, that’s the quality of being a friend if we say Shows Sportsman ship that’s the quality of being a good sport.
- 7:59
That’s what would ship mate. So when we use the word worship assign these it’s a word that is actually worth stripe originally, but it means that we’re saying that God’s got value. There’s a certain quality of God that makes him worth something. He’s worthy. He’s got our worth-ship like a friend’s got friendship and God has a worth shit. And so we were shipped him.
- 8:32
That’s where the word comes from and it’s very interesting is in the Bible. We know Old Testament in Hebrew New Testament in Greek originally and in the King James version when you see the word Worship in the Old Testament you A word that means to actually Crouch down before someone in fact to fall flat on your face in front of the bow down before that’s what the word worship means when you see in the Old Testament and in the New Testament is quite similar to the word that means to form the for something with Crouch down in front of something that actually includes the meaning of a dog licking the hand of its master.
- 9:12
So when we use the word worship Williams the words got very very the meaning behind it. It’s got a very strong visuals meaning behind it. And it’s a word that conveys the physicality of what means and that’s reflected in our hymns. I’ll give you a couple of examples. I got a whole list here, but here 153 for example says Lord when we meet to worship really help us to bow with Reverend or that’s well-written wisdom is picked up the fact that worship means to Bow before some 159 Worship the Lord in the beauty of Holiness. They are down before him his glory for climb again. That’s very well put and there’s a whole string of those in our hymn book that we’re very familiar with now in Australia. When our Western culture, we don’t do that due to a large degree.
- 10:05
We don’t we hear meetings. We we might stand for prayer prayer. We stand for most of their breathe probably about him if we’re sitting we might sort of sit a little bit. Really? It was sort of snapped back with not so suitable sit for a little bit more respectfully, but that’s that’s about the limit of the physical aspect of our worship in our culture.
- 10:26
We do get down on our knees that my meetings. Anyway, we don’t think to do that much less fall flat on your face every biblical low and that’s obviously Done In some cultures today. So we’ve lost that feeling of that that physicality of the meaning of the word worship, but it’s a very strong wrong word and the Very meaning of the word conveys exactly. What means and that is that if we worshiping God we’re saying to God we do not have any standing or status before you The old stains sheets before we have fled and 514 and that is what worship means.
- 11:08
That’s what we’re doing. We’re expressing to God what is worth that is worth a lot more than us infinitely more. He arrived his turn up two passengers. Now. The first one will tell us what worship is not and then the second one will tell us what we should be is. So let’s turn to Matthew chapter 15 if you would and we will see some scathing words, but our Lord Jesus Christ had to say about his contemporaries.
- 11:39
What he thought of their worship? This is in Matthew chapter 15 verse 8 where we read this people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth and honoureth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me in vain. They do worship me teaching for doctrines the Commandments of men. So Jesus looks at his contemporaries and he says these people so they say that they want to be close to me and they say words that honor me and that word honor in the Greek means to tries or to Value miss it very much on our subject for not these people say that they only and that I’m valuable to them that their heart says Jesus is going in the opposite direction away from the thing that they say that they value so there’s an inconsistency you would be like if someone if someone said to you, I love you that’s very nice sentiment if they will they save you from this is I love you. That’s that’s wonderful.
- 12:52
But one of them if they say it for you looking at you in the face looking at your body. I love you since we’ll be releasing that if they sang it while they were walking wife. And if we did that thinking it’s not the same and that’s what Jesus says here. You say all these things about me, but you walking away from me as she saying them.
- 13:15
So there’s a complete disconnect between your words and what you’re actually doing. There’s a complete mismatch between those two things. There’s an inconsistency between your words and how you actually feel. Your words do not reflect the way you feel and so he says in verse not in vain do they worship me. So this is what they actually are worshipping me.
- 13:42
But at least they’re here to be worshipping meat, but in fact, it is fun. Its of no use whatsoever. And it’s ironic isn’t it that the very deep relation that they’re saying the same we worship you means we then you he said that very statement you’re saying has absolutely no value your profession of it that I am value to you is value less.
- 14:14
It’s worth nothing and then he says in verse 9 teaching for doctrines. The Commandments of me. What’s that? What’s even more that this passage? We don’t have that but it’s quoting from Isaiah 29 and if we look at Isaiah 29 verse 13 years be puts it this way then fear of me is a commandment taught by men. In other words, none of them had any feeling they were saying and doing things for they knew they should but they have of them and Jesus said that that’s that’s not worship. That’s not even close to worship. It’s actually of no value whatsoever. He says to them you’re just going to sit for a set of rules and use a form of words just because you told food when your hearts million that’s of no interest. Go automate.
- 15:09
It’s a know that you whatsoever. Now that’s what worship is not. Let’s see. What was you is come over to John chapter 4. This is quite a familiar passage to us from group John chapter 4 with the Lord Jesus Christ is talking in a famous conversation woman from Samaria and he tells her what worship is and he says in John chapter 4 and verse 23 But the hour cometh and now is when the true worshipers shall worship the father in spirit and in truth for the father seeketh such to worship God is a spirit and they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth.
- 15:53
So two parts true. He says you got to understand the truth. You’ve got a correct intellectual understanding of who God is The public body work a lot. What do you is? And secondly, he said there’s going to be a spirit behind the meaning of that word includes includes mental disposition behind us. In other words.
- 16:18
There’s got to be an emotional and the spiritual grass of God worth and value. We’ve got to feel something for God. For worship for Meaningful and that feeling must be a reflection of what he’s with a reflection of his worship. So the question we ask is what do we think? God is worth.
- 16:43
What do you think God’s work? Then we need to persist the value of anything, but the only way really is to compare it to something else. They say what’s that Howard is someone who have 20,000? All right on our 20,000 in that that’s a that’s a very nice overseas holiday. It’s a new kitchen whatever so I can assess a work order 20 green blob. Like how do I get an overseas holiday, which is worth more which the better way of spending that $20,000 We compare things with other things to work out what they’re worth. So we’re going to find work of Worth to us. We need to compare his value to other things in our life. So we might ask the question here is we might ask yourself. How does God’s Worth or his value compared to the value of my car or my house if we’re going to have is how does God’s value compared to the value to you at your job? Or you think that?
- 17:52
What’s the value of God compared to the value of technology in your life? How does his value compared to the value of your mobile phone or to the value of sport in your life? Yeah.
- 18:09
Those questions it’s almost ridiculous to us. And we think we’ll listen. You can’t even compare doctor those things. But some of us ridiculously that are supposed to push but they’re just words. That’s the sort of in Jesus contemporaries would have seen.
- 18:32
Just and a good test of those words could be the men fashion and attachment we actually feel for those various things because the passion the attachment that we feel for things in our life. And for God in their life is a fair indication of what they’re actually worth the cinema. We ascribe War most things in life and to God add a value and that value.
- 19:05
Is a reflection of how we feel it. How much we value? And their feelings will naturally flow from the answer to that question. So Jesus said that in Matthew 15 for those people. He said you knew show passionate attachment to a lot of things in your life. But if we were to make a list of them God would not be at the top of that list.
- 19:30
Not even be a fair way down the list certain not top of that list of things that you value say. These are the top levels. But that’s just weird that that’s brilliant. In your heart is well, they’re almost Vista things in your life. So we might ask the question. Well if we dig a Little Deeper Think about what you spend your time doing your last this question of ourself. What I spend my time doing forget about the things that you have to do is for those who are baptized you get the occlusal plan and you can listen for certain thing there things you’ve got to do.
- 20:09
So, let’s just take them off the table outside of those committees have what do you spend your time doing? If the vast majority of their time and thoughts center around everything, but God. Then it could be. As Jesus said in Matthew 15 that we are just simply honoring God with their lips, but their hearts getting nail direction towards more important things in life.
- 20:37
It could be that our service to God isn’t much deeper than just keeping silly rules. That’s a good question to ask ourselves. Because of air pollution is truly an emotional expression of what God worth in our life. We should have very very strong feelings about God. We should have our strongest feelings about God the things that we are most passionate about in life.
- 21:09
Should be God if our feelings are a reflection of what he’s will. That’s a good question to ask yourself. Our worship should our worship should Express the Limitless were of God in our life. Now give an example of that. Just come with me to Psalm 73 just one quick example. Now, we read these passages and sometimes just seems like we’re sort of reading some of the outside of ourselves this wonderful example 773 verse 25
- 21:50
Whom have I in heaven, but the and there is none upon Earth that I desire beside them. So here the Rodriguez son says I look up to heaven and I know there’s one only one God there’s one God in him and they look down on this Earth and I see there is nothing on this Earth. It contains two that thoughts and these are that’s a comparison of words and there’s one God in heaven and nothing else on this Earth compares to him. So it goes on to say that there is no one nothing on Earth that I would desire beside thee and that would desire is usually translated for the word delight.
- 22:42
So could you really say that in your wife or could I say that in my life that there’s nothing on this Earth that Delights me more than God. I gravitate towards the things of God more than other things could could you say that in your life? Who could I say that in my life?
- 23:00
Because that’s what the writer of that Sam said. We don’t feel like that then we’re reading a verse like that. We’re even something outside of ourselves beautiful words, but it’s not we’re not part of it. It’s not feeling that way in our life verse 26 My Flesh and my heart failure, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever what that’s saying is is basically The sun is the same people that you I couldn’t go on. What is it could not be wrong.
- 23:32
If I didn’t have God in my life. He’s the only thing keeping me going is the only thing or what better ask yourself is very strong language like that. Could we honestly read those and think this all mean for me give you the feelings of Sam’s like that because that is true worship.
- 23:54
That’s a person. Punjab is worth more than anything. That’s the true word of God. Now, what about the word prize? You surprised me many times to slightly use the word worship and the word prize actually English word phrase actually comes from the Latin word prize to try some sense sounds like that would be true.
- 24:22
So I guess that must be true. I’m no Latin expert but that makes sense to me. So the word praise comes from the word prize. So we pry something again. It’s gettin It’s Gettin something of value here. Is full of this is that praising God 248 times in the King James Bible. The word is used.
- 24:43
So what’s us to tries him? And he wants us to praise him. Now. What would make us want to praise God what we want to do that? You think that crazy week we price things all the time. We praise people we we spontaneously praise all sorts of things a good example that I can think of is a couple examples is one of the examples this age group but a new baby
- 25:19
Who experience the new you visited a new baby in your family and we know a new baby comes into the ecclesial hall for the first time and the whole everyone’s around that may be praising the baby spontaneously, it’s something that is spontaneous. Its prey. That’s what prize is we tries this little this little new creature in our midst. Will you take a sporting event?
- 25:47
All right, I’m Grand final day a hundred thousand people packed the XE G and the Praises definitely look for leads. It’s just simply Prides for a different kind. But again, it’s a spontaneous price people praise things or both. We praise the wedding we come up here in this beautiful place where lovely world isn’t it beautiful facilities. I love you lovely food.
- 26:11
We’ve had a thought of Praise. So we praise things all the time, which is something That is spontaneous in life. And that’s all leave. I want to read you a passage from a writer by the name of CS Lewis. You may have heard of him. He wasn’t a Christian feel but he was a religious man and he wrote this in 1958 and it was on the subject of Christ. He said this so listen carefully. This is not very wrong.
- 26:43
He said That prize isn’t just getting compliments. It’s something more than that. He said the world rings with prayers and he went on for life just as people spontaneously pray whatever they value so they spontaneously urge us to join me praising. It is geography wasn’t it? Glorious? Isn’t that Magnificent the psalmist in telling everyone to praise God are doing what everyone does when they speak of what they care about?
- 27:15
I think we’d like to praise what we Joy because praise not merely expressive but completes the enjoyment not be very perceptive. So praise is something we enjoy them. It is a spontaneous thing and its heart. It is part of our enjoyment of the thing that we’re crazy. And a good way to think of that if you take the example of the new baby, you can imagine it.
- 27:42
If you said to a new parent as they go to visit their baby in the hospital just before you go in when you hold the baby for the first time you don’t let if she say anything no one’s going to say a word about this child. They’re all sitting in the room inside instead of raiding incessantly about it.
- 28:01
Beautiful. Everyone seemed an absolute silence. Beckham track from the occasion someone probably probably in the parents as well. And this example the sporting event is the same as if you went it was holding a big sporting event and everyone had to be completely silent. But the cheese chili atmosphere stone-dead wouldn’t because people spontaneously do that and what this writer see us live with is saying that part of our joy of God and part of the joy part of the joy you experience in knowing god is expressing those feelings back to him.
- 28:45
It’s something that God enjoys but it’s something that enhances our enjoyment of God just like praising anything enhancers are enjoyment together of that things if we truly love God, we will want to praise him and it will happened largely spontaneously. Now that begs the question if it’s it was like it’s spontaneous who feel that way spontaneous thing why then does the Bible command us to praise God because it does hundreds of times.
- 29:20
What would do that in something that comes naturally and we’ve been breathing is natural. God doesn’t commands to breathe we do that what what well without being sold to lose that we enjoyed reading. I do I know you do too. So we brought we all breathe without being told to get spontaneous. So there’s very something different about praise spontaneous.
- 29:42
They were his and I think the answer to that is that the soften AV praising God. He’s only spontaneous when we understand and we have a relationship with in so when God commands us to praise him, which he does many many times. I think what he’s saying is firstly get to know many what I’ve liked understand what I’ve done for you and then secondly you will find That the split the prize will spontaneously followed it will be a joyful expression of what you know about and that is why so often in the Bible the command to praise God is coupled with a description of what he’s done even example that let’s turn up sound 146 would thanks.
- 30:37
So 146 damp wood price you might be interested to know because 248 times in the King James Bible 248 times. the Old Testament and a hundred and sixty of that turning 48 are in Sam’s and all that having the 60/40 of them appear in 746. Some hundred fifty is about 3 to our pages.
- 31:13
So one in every one of the briefs occurrences of the word praise in the Bible occurs in two and a half pages. So we’re going to talk about prize something 46 to 750 is where it really comes into focus and you’ll notice we’re not going to read this so that if you just scan your eyes over to page you’ll see you might already have a cuddle in it’s good to do. So the first and last words in each of those sounds are praised here yellow the first and last Words in each of those sounds and in 46 to 50 so jumps out doesn’t it and then the body of H sub lists God righteous, please I’m not going to read them.
- 31:57
That’s what they do. You just scan your eyes. Oh, you can just see that for whole list of things that God has done. So let’s go do you say this is what I’ve done and now you know that praise me for it.
- 32:13
And not only that it tells us that it will be a pleasure for us to do so because it’s almost if he doesn’t even need to command us to do it, but it looks so mad and 47 verse 1 for example phrase you. Yeah, wait for it is good to sing praises unto God. It is pleasant and this coupling what we love to do Pleasant things that we love to enjoy ourselves and the psalmist is saying you knew that it was an enjoyable thinking about what be a burden but be a command to keep it’ll be a pleasure in your life. 749 burst to let Israel rejoice in him that made him let the children of Zion be joyful in their King hundred and forty-nine and verse 5 let the Saints be joyful in glory. Let them sing aloud upon their beds. Now if we return to the example again of the baby in the hospital you think about him think well, why go visit my baby in the hospital.
- 33:13
I’m going to see probably 50 to 50 babies in the Maternity Ward and I walk past every single one of them who are going to mean absolutely nothing to me. But if I’m totally objective about it, they’re all roughly as beautiful as my as my child that I’m going to sue but they all mean nothing to me.
- 33:32
It’s my child is the one that I’m going to put down their prize. We really do all the same thing. If I use the example of the they are physically they are and again if we use the example of the sporting event, if you take so football game, for example, half the crowd they’re going to cheer wildly when one side performs a particular task on the field and will be in silence when the other side does exactly the same thing and there are no rules about that.
- 34:02
There’s no sign in the hospital when you walk in and said when you see the baby make sure you praise it and say think of it a beautiful things there are no signs of sporting venues so make sure your cheer incredible atmosphere when your team starts winning all this is just spontaneous it can’t be contained and it’s pointless to try and that’s what this is describing when it comes to God which is infinitely higher level of those examples you know that 750 praise you yahwah praise God in his Sanctuary Praise Him in the firmament of his power praising for his mighty acts Praise Him according to his excellent greatness praising the sound of the trumpet praise him with the psaltery and harp praise him with the timbrel and dance praise him with stringed instruments and organs Praise Him upon the loud symbol phrasing upon the high sounding cymbals let everything that has breath praise yahwah praise ye yahwah now does that read to you like a set of rules Or description of a group of people.
- 35:13
There are simply having the time of their lives pricey girl because I love it because it what he’s done for them. That’s what that is is that’s not a set of rules sign prize God as God wants you to price that same think about what I’ve done for you and it will just naturally burst out in song or music and prayer whatever but we conversation for inaction in life. Their enjoyment and their love of God will just spring out of our appreciation of what he’s done for us. When we appreciate that right bodies, then when we see a verse that says praise Yahweh that ceases to be a command and a law to keep.
- 35:59
And it’s just simply didn’t ation for us to express our joy together towards God for what he’s done for us and when we do that together. We are enhancing our enjoyment of God. That’s the white gold filters. He’s built us to enjoy freising together things that we enjoy things that we value in life things that we prize in life.
- 36:29
He’s built that for lie to us and will be directed to the greatest thing in the universe. And of course that is God himself and what greater tribute could wear these So then you’ve got happiness people order the other ones that are serving him. They should be human. We should be the happiest place on earth. Because we’re sitting in God.
- 36:56
That we know and love and we know how much he loves us. So summary of prize. It’s not just offering God components. Not just flattering God. It is expressing the genuine love and admiration we have for him and how much wheat rising in our life have that who believes in our life. Now?
- 37:20
What I want to do is just have a little look into how the Saints will praise and worship God in the Kingdom. I want you to turn with me. It’s Revelation chapter 4.
- 37:34
Now if you’re thinking of getting getting it complex now, we’re going to revelation of the really understand it go over. That was just this very very simple. This is just a very very simple liberal Vision that we have given but it is absolutely fact of powerful. And so all that praise and worship.
- 37:55
We are look we are we are drawing back the curtain and we are having a little sneak peek at the Saints worshiping and praising God in the king. Revelation 4 verse 10 million Israelis as I don’t don’t feel daunted if it’s I think it’s going to be complex. This is very very simple versus.
- 38:17
Verse 10 the Four and Twenty Elders. That’s just the same thing with Kingdom fall down before him that sat on the throne and worship him that liveth forever and ever and cast their crowns Before the Throne saying Thou Art Worthy O Lord to receive glory and honor and power for their has created all things and for thy pleasure they are and were created now. Really?
- 38:44
Now you can see from Reading those that that’s got all the elements of worship here at so in verse 10. It said they fall down they fall down before him, you know, that’s what the word worship includes never met. They fall down before him. It says in verse 10 that they worship units use the word worship and then in verse 11, it says there are worthy. Oh Lord.
- 39:13
What’s up workship Associated? We’ve got now let’s just look at verse 11 and let’s just pick apart what this 11 is telling us because it tells us a lot about why we praise and worship God. Why do we value God so much. This is the king of this the Saints in the Kingdom. So they ought to know all that worship. We will when we’re there.
- 39:38
This is what it’s going to be. This is like going in a time machine into the kingdom and here. The same for themselves tell us a little bit about praise and worship moment. So what is the best live inside? The first thing that says is there are worthy. Oh Lord. So they’re simply saying to God you are worth something to us. You’ve got a certain value and that value is so great. So the Saints But we can save more things about you. We’re going to ascribe certain things food because you’re so worthy.
- 40:12
What did I do? What did I say? Well, they say you’re worthy. Oh Lord, you’ve got to let you get a great value and you are so worthy that you receive glory and honor and Power. seven translations actually put that this this life for that one expression that there are worthy O Lord to receive the glory and the honor and the hell in other words all glory all honor and all power goes to God.
- 40:57
Otherwise it were it not for the word those leaves in there. It could mean what you get you get some glory in parinama God or even most but when you say God, you’re worthy to receive the glory that honor and the power what you’re saying is you get it. All we got for these Saints are saying God you are worth so much that all glory all honor and all power goes to you. Everything goes to you.
- 41:30
You are just the most valuable thing. You are the only thing in the universe of inventive putting us putting everything got the only thing that has any value at all. Now if we were there from now in this verse who’s sitting there, we heard the site say that And you put your hand up and say can I ask can I ask a question and they said yeah and he’s like why why is God worthy of such lofty symptoms?
- 42:05
Why do you think he deserves to get all the glory all the honor and all the power to the excluding with us? Why would that be well, we know they’re answering people. They tell us that this for what other words cause There has created all things and for thy pleasure they are and were created in verse 11 for the end of verse 11 what it says you created all things and for thy pleasure they are and were created just a bit of including translation.
- 42:41
You look at has by your will. They are and were created so it’s probably worth making that note in the margin if you got something right, but that’s what it’s really saying. The reason that they giving the story on and power of God is because God has created all things and by his will they are and were created. So that’s so one that well that with the answer your question. What was with him you think about that what they say he is. Go by the decision Victory out.
- 43:19
and he actually created. It was his decision. and he’s at he wasn’t support some of those my decision and God was running with the pair carried out. And it wasn’t the reverse of that that it was gone for the season, but he had to ask someone else to carry out because he didn’t have a Babu.
- 43:42
So the decision was gods. And the task was built. He’s the only one to promote the see the anyone to carry it out. So he is totally responsible for everything. Now. That’s true. If God wanted two sides to create these the one who does create and he’s the only one I can do over those two things what that’s effectively saying use that God is everything because there’s nothing else In that process what else can come out of that process Gotham decision by The Godly action with the duo there’s nothing else there.
- 44:18
But God the only thing that can come out of the process like that is God. There’s nothing else. There’s no other input into it. It’s just all God, and that’s the reason But the site’s queue for giving him all the glory for an old pair he decided to create and he did create there’s nothing independent. God is nothing outside of God.
- 44:45
God is absolutely everything. There’s no other ingredient in that process than God. So God is everything. Everybody Must Be why the God and that’s the answer. And it might remind you of don’t clean it up. But when Paul says in First Corinthians 15 verse 28 that one day God, he says will be all in all four is Valen inputs that he’ll be all things. You know.
- 45:16
God will be he won’t just be in everything. Please leave everything there, but he’s not the only thing and everything because there’s a lot of things in my life, but are not God. Why couldn’t say that God is everything that’s in me. Oh that were the case one day by God’s grace and will be buried in the Kingdom age.
- 45:37
He will be everything that’s in everything. There’ll be nothing in anything. That’s not God. He will be all and in all and that’s what those Saints are saying. You decided you created your totally responsible for everything you got there’s no other input at all from anything else you are everything and that’s why we give you the glory the honor and that the prize and that’s why Side God you are worthy.
- 46:05
You’ve got the ultimate word. The ultimate workers is nothing else that’s worth anything. Nothing else exists to have a baby besides God. Yeah, that’s pretty daunting isn’t anything about that you think well.
- 46:26
That’s that’s a pretty high level of worshipping or not. Think well, okay. Yes, possibly that’s in the Kingdom own. But this is you feel like that mayor. You might not feel what we feel. We might not prove might think well, I’ll feel like that then but that doesn’t mean I have to feel like that now just think about this. I was drinking a little passive, but brother Robert Roberts wrote in seasons of come later in 1790 wrote. This is for short look both.
- 46:58
He said the equator of Christ ought to represent on a small scale what will be dominant when priced homes? We are called on to that Kingdom and therefore we ought to show those characteristics that will begin making all the rejoices in the truth and praising God that will be the universal law then bought to be visible in our assembly now.
- 47:22
We ought to be the kingdom of God in miniature. So we sit back and think about all that you think well, how am I going to respond to that we could respond to that? You can respond in a negative way to that. You could think well, that’s that’s very very golden. I find that that’s a very high level of spirituality Way Beyond me. I’m not there never have been that sense of getting there to be frank.
- 47:51
I just I find that to be totally outside my experience. What daunted by that verbs? But you think about the other way more positive perspective thinking how did Ray free a verse like that is what that verse is saying Revelation 14 verse 11. It’s saying to us that we don’t need to worry about so many of the things that we worry about in life. So many of the things that we sitting at home worrying about in life are simply not worth it.
- 48:27
They don’t have the They are not worthy of are worried. We did worship two things that are simply not worthy of the time and the worry that we give them. Now we need things in life. We know we need money to survive in their job will go through their head of a family that are supposed to provide for that family.
- 48:56
But we devote so much of your time and attention and our worry, so things outside of those responsibilities and a lot of times it’s done because we see everywhere else doing it outside there who even inside the thing that well I guess I should too. I suppose I should do that too. I suppose it would be wrong and make a sort of separate myself from all those things. They need to be part of my life too. And that goes to say they don’t need to be part of your body. You don’t need to worry about me and you can just free yourselves on them because the slot weapon they don’t have to work. Then I was sufficient enough prize for you to worry about it’s a very very liberating verse it frees us from so much that burns and ways, there are so many people on this Earth. We never have to worry about some things because they’re just not worth it.
- 49:57
That verse just simply simplifies your life. Doesn’t it before it can do it can just remove all the Clutter from your life and just learned what’s important. The only thing that has any work and that’s God for wonderful verse Revelation 4 and verse 11 is how just want to close with this thought. But I think it’s good to think good to sort of recognize this the in our everyday life in the truth in all of our lives in the truth.
- 50:28
We all have ups and downs. We all have simple highs and lows in life. So what if the moment you’re feeling a bit low or you might not even feeling what I’m feeling low, it’s just that you don’t quite feel like those verses that we’ve read. We’ve reversing that they’re the same as saying God will move. Nobody else on Earth can be used with your talking with the action and we made those persons and it would be amazing if they were not a lot of people in this room. We right now thinking sure I feel like that I really beautiful word that I get really into into that feel about have that feeling all of us from time to time life sometimes but long periods of time can just feel totally removed for that think I think it’s a beautiful thought that it just just not the way of feel at the moment.
- 51:28
So what are we doing you do if you let why what’s the answer to that problem? Well, I don’t think the answer is just to keep using word worship and praise 1 by hope you’ll click and they’ll start to mean something to us. And if we think of crazy things that we generally don’t trays things as a way of making us like it happens the other way round in like something we value something and the praise just naturally follows from that. We then talk ourselves into loving things doesn’t seem to work that way.
- 52:03
I’m not suggesting that we just sort of feel ourselves into a gone never use words like that until we feel like it because we might be waiting very long time for that to happen. Three-point feels you feel right now that your heart’s not really in that in your worship and praise the you’re not really feeling that passion in your life.
- 52:24
There’s only one reason that’s happened and that is because we have lost sight of gods value. After all, we’re all praising lots of things. Well, if you think there’s a lot I don’t know that wherever we could Praise of God you’d be president of other things. So we’re all in life all sorts of things. You’ve done hundreds of times today. You’ve completed this phrase that said this is wonderful really wonderful time here.
- 52:50
So we’re very good at getting a prize. The issue is what do we actually value in life? We perhaps have lost soul. What a prize got he’s going to turn up one passage to finish that I think is very helpful in that regard and that is Psalm 63.
- 53:10
Not complicated at all this one very very simple. That I think if we’re going to be realistic. All of us do not feel like that all the time. We just do not. And we can go through some quite flat here is now life and Truth. Yeah 763 read before. So the first part of this is such a diverse about Pride.
- 53:41
I got them at my God early. Will I seek the myself first of for me and my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty for land where no water. He’s to Sido para my glory so as I’ve seen the in the century because thy loving-kindness is better than life. My lips shall praise thee thus will I bless me while I live I will lift up my hands in my name. My soul shall be satisfied as with And fatness in my mouth shall praise thee with joyfulness and we might read those verses been.
- 54:11
Well, there we go. Again, that’s another beautiful passage. But if I’m totally honest with myself, that’s not the way I feel that when the cats but I don’t really feel that level of passion towards God that the bug net good reasons. The passage doesn’t end there because you least in the authorized version verse 5 ends with a coelom. So it’s not a full stop.
- 54:38
It’s not just the whole wonderful verses and having our well, I’m feeling all that again because that’s not well fear. No the sentence hasn’t finished yet. And what David says is I feel this way I feel is were bit. Goddamn offering all this praise to God is wonderful. The only thing in my life. This seems when I remember the upon my bed and meditate on the in the night watches.
- 55:07
So he doesn’t put a full stop at the end of this five because what he’s doing is he’s telling us. What he does to make him feel like that. And he’s saying to us, I feel like that about God. When I think about God. When I find a bit of time on my own if you just ignore him big and I remember God that’s when I feel like this is one too far. Nothing, that’s a Magnificent Passage because what verse 6 is doing its qualifying this one too far. So we read those verses one the phone think I don’t feel like that.
- 55:48
David says well, I didn’t feel like that when I take the time to think about God. We all know that we have landed in Europe, which is the most distracted. Save this world ever done. And we have get all the time. It’s just someone else going out of that technology and all the distractions of this life. But the fact of the matter is if we don’t take the time find the time some of them.
- 56:20
To do this 6 and think about God. Think about God think about it God that we cannot see when our love for God will definitely grow coffee.
- 56:37
It will go and they won’t feel the passion of this one thought. This is exactly happens. This front will spawn the following happens after the 630 himself soon. So remember when you think about God because the good news, he’s very good news is that all of us can do that move over instead of the ability to think about something and remember something. That’s what he says.
- 57:05
When I remember when I think now we’re going to throw it doesn’t have the ability to think and to remember we can all do that. Because we love the whole look so all can be first to go because I’m not a serious person or you don’t know how to study the Bible. My room is not set up for it opened up a book. So that light reading.
- 57:26
You’re always excuse. The reason we can’t get close to God the fact of the matter is. Pool vast majority of God’s sake throughout the ages have not been able to wiggle. Right most of the people in the Kingdom probably won’t deliver then under the read or write in their lifetime.
- 57:48
Barely relatively recent thing is started the just a matter of mutual. Simon can’t use that as an excuse. That’s not sign that read the bottle are we’ve got the ability and access to the bottom. We should use that but don’t ever use those things as an excuse not to get close to God as David said all I had to do was thief and remember all this can do that.
- 58:12
I’m just going to find which time to do now. We might people what my own think about who’s going to sit out of a log somewhere. I just explained the photo of the think of it. Well the sound tells what think about what a diamond think about a teaspoon of cinnamon because there has been my help. Therefore the shadow of thy Wings Over Joyce myself follow hard after thee thy right hand up hold of me. So what we’re going to do think about the blessings. God has given us that’s what they would say there. I think about what you’ve done to help me. Do you think of your life in the truth? You just sit down find some time to think about what God has put into your life the friendships that he’s put into your life that you wouldn’t have had.
- 59:01
Otherwise the people, you know from far and wide the lifelong bond that you’ve got. A weekend like this. The stability that you have in a world that is absolutely completely confused and uncertain about her candidate. And you’ve got a rock-solid stability in her life. That’s some medicine for that forgiveness for your sin product. Think the better.
- 59:31
Probably the fact that God, absolutely Delights. In forgiving you for Witnesses in your life that have tried you for years and still do. Things that you’ve done in your life over and over and over again hundreds of times maybe thousands of times. But you struggle.
- 1:00:00
Trying to beat yourself about problem. So know that God is a God who did a lot stiffer give those things. That’s worth sitting there one line. Just thinking of anything. And of course the – he is well worth meditate upon it and remember and don’t say when I take the time to think about all that. Then the feelings that I wrote verses 1 to 5 just naturally well up inside me in response for what God has done for them and we know more about what God’s done for us to leave him David because we’ve seen the Lord Jesus Christ. Why are you frustrated that we simply don’t have the feelings to God that we know that we should? Then a Simple Start is just to find of the time. That night or early in the morning for great time just to sit down and think about God.
- 1:01:07
Don’t worry books there. You might not even necessarily Bible in front of you, but you just sit there and think about what he’s done in your life. And that will start you on the road towards feeling like David did in this wonderful five of Psalm 63. I use the term you include myself in that as well follow us all of us need to do that.
- 1:01:32
The more we know God, but we came to know the more we will see how much greater years and everything else in life is worth is greater, and he’s a greater prize. worship and praise we will find as we already know for the deliver happiness times in our life irrespective of whatever trials we’re going through that happiest times in their life or the times when we are sitting close to God when we think about what Revelation for told us about are joyful, and about how excited those Saints will do and we will be in the kingdom when they’re worshiping and praising God what glorious and magnificent tribute who were vague of God today if the happiest people on earth the kingdom of God in miniature you and I who can’t wait for the day when God will be everything in everything.
